Lymphoepithelioma-like hepatocellular carcinoma: Case report and review of the literature

Lymphoepithelioma-like hepatocellular carcinoma(LeLHCC) is a rare form of undifferentiated carcinoma of the liver characterized by the presence of an abundant lymphoid infiltrate. Here,a case of LeL-HCC is described. An 81-year-old woman with a chronic hepatitis C infection was referred to the general surgery department of our hospital in August 2013 with a diagnosis of HCC. A past ultrasound examination had revealed a 60 mm-diameter nodular lesion in the third segment of the liver. After a needle biopsy,the lesion was diagnosed as HCC. The patient underwent surgery with a liver segmentectomy. Two additional nodes on the gastric wall were detected during the surgical operation. The histology of the removed specimen showed a poorly differentiated HCC with significant lymphoid stroma. Immunohistochemical studies revealed that the epithelial component was reactive for CK CAM5.2,CK8,CK18,CeA(polyclonal) and was focally positive for hepar-1 and that the lymphoid infiltrate was positive for CD3,CD4 and CD8. The tumor cells were negative for epstein-Barr virus. The gastric nodes were ultimately determined to be two small gastrointestinal stromal tumors(GISTs).The synchronous occurrence of HCC and GIST is another very uncommon finding rarely described in the literature. Here,we report the clinicopathological features of our case,along with a review of the few cases present in the literature.

Analysis of the fluid-bed stability of FCC catalysts at high temperature in terms of bed elasticity

The effect of temperature on the fluid-bed stability of three FCC catalysts has been analyzed through considerations on fluid-bed elasticity. experimental findings on the effect of temperature on the elasticity modulus at minimum bubbling conditions, （e）mb, were analyzed using the hydrodynamic fluid-bed stability model developed by Foscolo and Gibilaro （1984） and adopting the interparticle-forces-based stability criterion developed by Mutsers and Rietema （1977）. For both models, the parameters which control changes in （e）mb with temperature are discussed, in order to establish the origin of the fluid-bed elasticity and analyze the ability of these models to discriminate between the relative importance of the hydrodynamic and interoarticle forces on the stability of the fluidized catalysts.

Alzheimer＇s disease is a multifactorial pathology, for which no cure is currently available. Nowadays, researchers are moving towards a new hypothesis of the onset of the illness, linking it to a metabolic impairment, q-his innovative approach will lead to the identification of new targets for the preparation of new effective drugs. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors and their ligands are the ideal candidates to reach the necessary breakthrough to defeat this complicate disease.

AIM： To evaluate the predictive value of hepatocyte proliferation and hepatic angiogenesis for the occurrence of Hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） in hepatitis C virus （HCV） cirrhotic patients.MeTHODS： One hundred-five patients （69 males, 36 females; age range, 51-90 year; median 66 year） with biopsy proven HCV cirrhosis were prospectively monitored for HCC occurrence for a median time of 64 too. Angiogenesis was assessed by using microvessel density （MVD）, hepatocyte turnover by MIB1 and PCNA indexes at inclusion in liver biopsies.ReSULTS： Forty six patients （43.8%） developed HCC after a median time of 55 （6-120） mo while 59 （56.2%） did not. Patients were divided into two groups according to the median value of each index. The difference between patients with low （median MVD = 3; range 0-20） and high （median MVD = 7; range 1-24） MVD was statist（caUy s（gn（ficant （χ^2= 22.06; P 〈 0.0001） wh（ch was not the case for MIB1 or PCNA （MIB-I： χ^2 = 1.41; P = 0.2351; PCNA： χ^2 = 1.27; P = 0.2589）. The median MVD was higher in patients who developed HCC than in those who did not. HOe-free interval was significantly longer in patients with the MVD ≤ 4 （P = 0.0006）. No relationship was found between MIB1 or PCNA and MVD （MIB-1 r^2 = 0.00007116, P = 0.9281; PCNA： P =0.001950; P = 0.6692）. MVD only was able to predict the occurrence of HCC in these patients. Among other known risk factors for HCC, only male sex was statistically associated with an increased risk. CONCLUSION： Liver angiogenesis has a role for in HCV- related liver carcinogenesis and for defining patients at higher risk.
