Institute of Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences has developed some novel sorbents designed for the filter units of the passive filtration system for radioactive discharge from the intercontainment space during heavy accidents with a complete loss of electricity supply at nuclear power plants. These are granulated sorbents based on large-pore silica gel containing nanometric particles of Ag or Ag-Ni compounds (trademark Fizkhimin). The sorbents allow to remove various radioactive iodine species (inorganic ones and methyl iodide) from a steam-gas phase with at least 104 decontamination factor. The high sorption properties of Fizkhimin sorbent with Ag particles were confirmed during tests at a test facility of the TUv Sudwest company (Karlsruhe, Germany). This passive filtration system is installed at the 1st and 2nd units of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant (India) and it is unique in the world practice.

Achievable supercooling for the formation of methane hydrate from water emulsions was studied in seven different crude oils and in decane. The experiments were performed under constant rate cooling from + 20 to-15 °C and a pressure of methane of 12 MPa. It was demonstrated that the shapes and positions of the resulting survival curves depend on the density, viscosity and dispersive power of oil samples used in the experiments, as well as on the degree of oil oxidation. In addition, results of the experiments on ice freezing under the same emulsions are presented. The results obtained in the work allowed us to discuss the possibility and features of primary and secondary nucleation of the hydrate and ice in the systems under consideration.

Mitochondrial DNA fragment of cytb was compared in all species Carassius auratus complex and three forms of ornamental goldfish. It is shown that the phylogenetic relationships between complex species correspond to the existing views, based on mtDNA data and geographical distribution. All forms of ornamental goldfish have a monophyletic origin from Chinese goldfish C. auratus auratus. The analysis showed that three nuclear genes (rps7, GH1 and Rh) in the two forms of ornamental goldfish (Oriental twintail goldfish and Chinese Ranchu) were almost identical C. auratus auratus genes, while all three gene in another more simple form of goldfish (common goldfish) were highly homologous to carp Cyprinus carpio nuclear genes. The obtained data suggested that in the history of aquarium goldfish breeding occurred the stage of distant hybridization between goldfish and common carp. Subsequently, the nuclear genomes of some ornamental forms could be enriched by goldfish genes (a relatively recent form as Oriental twintail goldfish and Chinese Ranchu) or common carp genes (the simplest and most ancient forms like common goldfish) as a result of multidirectional breeding and selection of aquarium goldfish various forms.

Assessment of the Regime of Functioning Agroecosystems Depending on the Climate and Technogenic Pollution of the Soils

Some results of monitoring (for the period from 1992 to 2005) related to transformations of carbon in agroecosystems of Baikal Siberia (Russia) characterized by unpolluted grey forest soils as well as the soils technogenically polluted with heavy metals are discussed with use the unique approach to integrated assessment of the agroecosystem’s functioning regime. The peculiarities of accumulation of carbon in soil microbial biomass and CO2 emission during the years differing in climate conditions are demonstrated. Analysis of formation of net-mineralized and (re)immobilized carbon is conducted, their ratio being used for the purpose of assessment of the level of influence upon the agroecosystem. The agroecosystems having technogenically polluted soils are characterized by processes of the soil microbial biomass reduction and by an obvious increase of CO2 emission into the atmosphere. Negative changes, which are bound up with carbon transformation, are intensified under unfavorable climate conditions. Intensification of processes of carbon net mineralization and, vice versa, lowering the intensity of processes related to carbon (re)immobilization (especially under the effect of soil pollution and climate changes) provoke instability of the agroecosystem and cause formation of a new regime of its functioning.

A method of medical implants (biocomposites) preparation based on nanostructured titanium with nanocrystalline bioactive hydroxylapatite coatings is developed. The operative treatment using these implants improves the regeneration of bone tissue for rats, as compared to the “false-operated” animals. The morphological data at 7, 14, 21, 45 days are obtained by means of scanning electron microscopy and discussed.

Serological diagnostics of myocardium diseases based on multivariate analysis of cardiotrophic autoantibodies’ profiles

We analyzed profiles of IgG autoantibodies to 16 cardiac specific proteins and their main immunogenic region B-epitopes, in the groups of already verified cardiac pathology: acute and chronic lymphocytic myocarditis, ST elevation myocardial infarction, postinfarction remodeling of myocardium, dilated cardiomyopathy and in healthy controls along with patients, suffered from gastritis (to evaluate immune response against cross-reactive B-epitopes). AAB specific patterns allowed us to distinguish cases among themselves by means of multiparametrical canonical discriminant analysis in approximately 95% of cases. Positive predictive value in the group of MYO reached 95%, in the STEMI—89%, in the PIR—99%, in the DCM—99%, in the group of gastritis—88%. Principal component analysis of mentioned cardiac pathologies extended current clinical knowledge of their immunopathogenesis. Obtained data markedly proved a usability of serum AAB profiling for non invasive screening, differential diagnostics and working hypothesis composition.
