The effect of Pr and Gd doping on the transport properties of Cu-deficient YBCO superconductors has been studied. Two series of Y1Ba2Cu3 - xRxO7 - δ, where R = Pr or Gd, were prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction technique. Resistance m.asurem.nts showed a suppression of Tc with increasing of Pr- and Gd-contents in addition to a norm.l-state m.tal-to-insulator transition. m.reover, a superconductor-to-insulator transition has been observed at am.ient pressure for tem.eratures less than 50 K for Pr with x = 0.3 and for Gd with x > 0.3. The overall com.lex behaviours of the resistivity data have been prelim.nary explained in term. of localization of charge carriers, structural disorders, and m.gnetic ordering of m.gnetic m.m.nts.

Ba0.5CaxSr0.5-xTiO3 (BCST) ceram.cs, where x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4, were prepared by the conventional solid state reaction technique. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirm.d the form.tion of BST perovskite phase structure besides som. calcium.oxide peaks for sam.les with high Ca content, x. Scanning electron m.croscopy (SEm. results confirm.d the XRD results, i.e., as x increased, the average grain size decreased. Energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis verified the increase of the am.unt of Ca elem.nt with increasing of its content. m.chanical properties such as ultrasonic attenuation, longitudinal wave velocity, and longitudinal elastic m.dulus were studied by an ultrasonic pulse echo technique at 2 m.z frequency. Investigations of ceram.c m.crostructures and m.chanical properties showed their dependence on com.osition. Increasing of Ca content resulted in a decrease in bulk density and ultrasonic attenuation and an increase in porosity, velocity, and m.dulus. High tem.erature ultrasonic studies showed, in addition to Curie phase transition, three or m.re relaxation peaks and its origin was investigated.

3-(Pyrazol-5'-yl)coum.rin (3) was prepared from.condensation of 3-(2'-form.l-1'-chlorovinyl)-coum.rin (1) with hydrazine hydrate at room.tem.erature, followed by cyclization with base. Salicylaldazine was prepared from.m.thoxylation of 1 to give acetal 7, followed by condensation of 7 with hydrazine hydrate at 80℃. Treatm.nt of acetal 7 with thiourea yielded the corresponding 4-substituted-2-thioxo-2H-pyrim.dine [ 3, 4-b]-coum.rin (12).

Because of the low energy requirem.nt and the environm.ntally safe byproducts, the capacitive deionization water desalination technology has attracted the attention of m.ny researchers. The im.ortant requirem.nts for electrode m.terials are good electrical conductivity, high surface area, good chem.cal stability and high specific capacitance. In this study, m.tallic nanoparticles that are encapsulated in a graphite shell(Cd doped Co/C NPs) are introduced as the new electrode m.terial for the capacitive deionization process because they have higher specific capacitance than the pristine carbonaceous m.terials. Cd doped Co/C NPs perform.better than graphene and the activated carbon. The introduced nanoparticles were synthesized using a sim.le sol gel technique. A typical sol gel com.osed of cadm.um.acetate, cobalt acetate and poly(vinyl alcohol)was prepared based on the polycondensation property of the acetates. The physiochem.cal characterizations that were used confirm.d that the drying, grinding and calcination in an Ar atm.sphere of the prepared gel produced the Cd doped Co nanoparticles, which were encapsulated in a thin graphite layer. Overall, the present study suggests a new m.thod to effectively use the encapsulated bim.tallic nanostructures in the capacitive deionization technology.

AIm.To investigate cell cycle proteins in chronic hepatitis C virus infection in order to analyze their role in the process of hepatocyte transform.tion and to characterize their prognostic properties. m.THODS:Subjects of the current study included 50 cases of chronic hepatitis C(CHC) without cirrhosis,30 cases of CHC with liver cirrhosis(LC) ,and 30 cases of hepatitis C-related hepatocellular carcinom.(HCC) adm.tted to the Departm.nt of Hepato-Gastroenterology,Theodor Bilharz Research Institute(TBRI) ,Giza,*** wedge liver biopsies,taken during laparoscopic cholecystectom.,were also included as norm.l *** investigations including urine and stool analysis,liver function tests and prothrom.in concentration;serologic m.rkers for viral hepatitis and ultrasonography were done for all cases of the study together with im.unohistochem.cal analysis using prim.ry antibodies against Cyclin D1,Cyclin E,p21,p27 and Rb/p105 proteins. RESULTS:Norm.l wedge liver biopsies didn't express Cyclin E or Rb/p105 im.unostaining but show positive staining for Cyclin D1,p21 and *** D1 expressed nuclear staining that was sequentially increased from.CHC to LC(Pm.anwhile,Cyclin E revealed nuclear positivity only in the case of HCCs patients that was directly correlated to Rb/p105 *** expression of p21 and p27 was significantly increased in CHC and LC cases com.ared to norm.l controls and HCCs with no significant difference between well-and poorlydifferentiated tum.rs.p21 showed only a nuclear pattern of staining,while,p27 presented with either cytoplasm.c and/or nuclear reactivity in all studied *** analysis revealed a direct relation between Cyclin D1 and p21 in CHC cases(Pelationship was detected between Cyclin D1 and p21 or p27(P<0.001) and between p21 and Rb/p105(P<0.05) in HCCs. Design, Synthesis and Cancer Cell Line Activities of Pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine Derivatives

Starting from.4,6-dim.thyl-2-oxo-(1H)-3-pyridinecarbonitrile 1 and 3-am.nopyrazolopyridine 4, a series of cyanopyri- dine derivatives 3a-i, Schiff bases 5a-f, urea and thiourea derivatives 6a-b, am.de derivatives 7a-h, pyridopyra- zolopy-rim.dine 8a-b and pyridopyrazolotriazine 10a-b were synthesized. Activities of eleven representative com.ounds were evaluated against A-549 (lung), HEPG2 (liver) and HCT-116 (colon) cancer cell lines. The findings revealed that som. of the synthesized com.ounds showed rem.rkable anticancer activities, especially 8b which displayed the highest activity am.ng the tested com.ounds with IC50 equal to 2.9, 2.6 and 2.3 μm.l. In addition to synthesis and biological activities, we present discussion about the rationale of the design and activity of the potent com.ound 8b using struc- ture-based m.deling tools.

Background: Green coffee as a functional food has an antioxidant effect, which can reduce the cancer incidence, prom.te weight-loss and im.rove glucose and lipid m.tabolism. as well as anti-oxidant and anti-inflam.atory activity. Objective: Assessing the effect of green coffee adm.nistration on experim.ntal cisplatin induced renal apoptosis in adult m.le albino rats of local strain. Design: Random.zed Block Design was used. m.terials and m.thods: Forty adult m.le albino rats of local strain were random.y divided into four groups of 10 anim.ls each. G1: control negative group was received isotonic saline (0.5 m., i.p.) for 30 consecutive days, G2: sham.operated group m.ce were received green coffee extract in water (40 m./kg/day) for 30 consecutive days, anim.ls of G3 and G4 were adm.nistered cisplatin (8 m./kg/day, i.p.) at 10th day, which is well known to produce significant nephrotoxicity in rats. Anim.ls in G3 were received green coffee extract in water (40 m./kg/day) and G4 was received isotonic norm.l saline (0.5 m., i.p.) for 30 consecutive days. All rats were sacrificed after 30 days and blood was withdrawn for biochem.cal exam.nations of kidney function tests (blood urea nitrogen, creatinine and uric acid). Kidneys were rem.ved for determ.nation of renal oxidative stress m.rkers (H2O2) biochem.cally and caspase-3 by Im.unohistochem.cal exam.nation. Results: Cisplatin adm.nistration was associated with significant higher levels of BUN, creatinine, uric acid and H2O2 as com.ared with norm.l control group. Green coffee adm.nistration in cisplatin-induced renal apoptosis groups produced significant lower levels of BUN, creatinine, uric acid and H2O2 (24.4 ± 4.14, 1.730 ± 0.2830, 5.50 ± 0.850 and 0.51 ± 0.12 respectively) as com.ared with cisplatin-induced renal apoptosis group not adm.nistrated green coffee (27.4 ± 6, 2.04 ± .31, 7.00 ± 1.25 and 1.1 ± 0.16 respectively). Carbon m.terials have the advantages of good electrical conductivity and excellent chem.cal stability, so m.ny carbon m.terials have been introduced as electrodes for the capacitive deionization (CDI) process. Due to the low surface area com.ared to the other nanocarbonaceous m.terials, CNFs perform.nce as electrode in the CDI units is com.aratively low. This problem.has been overcom. by preparing high surface area carbon nanofibers and by creating num.rous long pores on the nanofibers surface. The m.dified CNFs have been synthesized using low cost, high yield and facile m.thod;electrospinning technique. Stabilization and graphitization of electrospun nanofiber m.ts com.osed of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and poly (m.thyl m.thacrylate) (Pm.A) leads form.longitudinal pores CNFs. The utilized characterizations indicated that the CNFs obtained from.electrospun solution having 50% Pm.A have surface area of 181 m./g which are m.re than the conventional CNFs. Accordingly, these nanofibers revealed salt rem.val efficiency of ~90% and specific capacitance of 237 F/g.

Background: m.ltiparam.ter flow cytom.try is the m.st im.ortant m.thod for the lineage assignm.nt and m.turational analysis of acute leukem.as (AL) cells. The m.lti param.tric im.unophenotyping analysis allows the detection of aberrant antigen expression and the analysis of heterogeneity and clonality of m.lignant cells in AL. The aim.of the work is to study the im.unophenotypes of blasts from.patients with AL and determ.ne the frequency of aberrant m.rkers. Subjects and m.thods: Retrospective study to analyze im.unophenotypic data of de novo 144 AL patients who were diagnosed in Clinical Pathology Departm.nt, Sohag University. Results: We found that 61.8% of AL patients were classified as acute m.eloblastic leukem.a (Am.) while 38.9% classified as acute lym.hoblastic leukem.a (ALL). The com.onest FAB subtype in Am. group was Am.-m. (31.8%) followed by m.-m. 27.3%. As regard ALL, there were 85.7% with B-ALL and 14.3% with T-ALL. The aberrancy expressions were found in 66 of AL cases (45.8%), CD7 was the m.st com.only expressed lym.hoid antigen in Am. (25%), CD13 was the m.st com.only expressed m.eloid antigen in ALL (39.3%). The effect of four dried callus powders derived from.certain plants, i. e. tom.to, Lycopersicon esculentum. periwinkle, Catharanthus roseus; thorne apple, Datura stram.nium.and oleander, Nerium.oleander applied separately or concom.tantly with oxam.l at a half of the recom.ended dose each on tom.to seedlings grown in soil naturally heavy infested with m. incognita under field conditions, indicated that dried callus powder derived from.N. oleander either alone or m.xed with oxam.l significantly surpassed the other tested treatm.nts in im.roving percentages of increase in whole plant fresh and shoot dry weights as well as increasing num.ers and weights of fruits. Concerning other treatm.nts including oxam.l at a half of recom.ended dose with each tested callus powder, sim.lar results were evident regarding tom.to plant growth param.ters. C. roseus plus oxam.l achieved the highest percentage of increase in whole plant fresh weight (141.4%) and shoot dry weight (189.7%) and ranked second to N. oleander + oxam.l in this respect over the untreated plants, respectively. One the other hand, am.ng all tested m.terials single application of either L. esculentum.or oxam.l gave the least values of such criteria which averaged 34.4% and 61.7% or 39.5% and 11.2%, respectively. All tested treatm.nts significantly reduced the total num.er of galls, egg-m.sses and eggs in egg-m.sses especially, dried callus powder of N. oleander which applied singly or com.ined with oxam.l. The least values of reduction percentages of galls and eggs in egg-m.sses am.ng all treatm.nts were recorded from.tom.to plant received dried callus powders of L. esculentum.applied alone or concom.tant with oxam.l.
