The practical applications of carbon anode for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)are largely obstructed by their moderate rate capability and cyclic stability.Herein,we report a N,S-codoped porous carbon nanosheet(NSC)decorated with Fe_(3)C nanoparticles(Fe_(3)C/NSC)by a one-pot pyrolysis process.The high surface area and abundant defects of NSC can not only promote electrons and ions transfer,but also induce high pseudocapacitive contribution.More importantly,the synergistic catalysis effect of Fe-Nx and Fe_(3)C can catalyze the reversible conversion of some solid electrolyte interface(SEI)components to offer excess capacity during cycling.As expected,the Fe_(3)C-NSC anode delivers a discharge capacity of750 mAh·g^(-1)under a current density of 0.5 A·g^(-1)through 500 cycles and retains a dis-charge capacity of 366 mAh·g^(-1)at 4 A·g^(-1)after 1600 cycles,respectively.Most importantly,the lithium-ion capacitors based on Fe_(3)C/NSC anode demonstrate a high energy density of 249.5 Wh·kg^(-1)at 560 W·kg^(-1).

Infectious diseases are an enormous public health burden and a growing threat to human health worldwide.Emerging or classic recurrent pathogens,or pathogens with resistant traits,challenge our ability to diagnose and control infectious diseases.Nanopore sequencing technology has the potential to enhance our ability to diagnose,interrogate,and track infectious diseases due to the unrestricted read length and system portability.This review focuses on the application of nanopore sequencing technology in the clinical diagnosis of infectious diseases and includes the following:(i)a brief introduction to nanopore sequencing technology and Oxford Nanopore Technologies(ONT)sequencing platforms;(ii)strategies for nanopore-based sequencing technologies;and(iii)applications of nanopore sequencing technology in monitoring emerging pathogenic microorganisms,molecular detection of clinically relevant drug-resistance genes,and characterization of disease-related microbial communities.Finally,we discuss the current challenges,potential opportunities,and future outlook for applying nanopore sequencing technology in the diagnosis of infectious diseases.

MXene,as an emerging two-dimensional(2D)material with ultrathin structure and fascinating physiochemical properties,has been widely explored in broad applications.Versatile functions of MXenes are continuously explored.This work presents distinctive feature of MXene-Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)nanosheets for free-radical(FRs)scavenging that never reported before.We demonstrated the mechanism and equation in regard to the reaction between Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)and H_(2)O_(2),which was applied to design colorimetric H_(2)O_(2)strip assay with good performance.The good FRs scavenging capability of Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x),including a series of reactive oxygen species(ROS)and reactive nitrogen species(RNS),was systemically confirmed.The antioxidation capability of Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)for protecting cells from oxidative damage was demonstrated using the oxidative damage model of alpha mouse liver 12(AML-12)cells.This original work provides huge opportunities for MXenes in FR-related biomedical applications.

Pre-chamber turbulent jet ignition of methane/air mixtures with multiple orifices in a large bore constant volume chamber: effect of air-fuel equivalence ratio and pre-mixed pressure

Liquefied natural gas (LNG), mainly composed of methane, is in progress to substitute diesel fuel in heavyduty marine engine for practical, economic, and environmental considerations. However, natural gas is relatively difficult to be ignited in a large bore combustion chamber. A combustion enhancement technique called prechamber turbulent jet ignition (TJI) can permit combustion and flame propagation in a largebore volume. To investigate the effect of air-fuel equivalence ratio and pre-mixed pressure on pre-chamber TJI of methane/air mixtures with multiple orifices in a large bore volume, experimental tests and computational simulations were implemented to study the discharge of hot turbulent jets from six orifices of the pre-chamber. Different initial pressures and air-fuel equivalence ratios were considered to analyze the characteristics of TJI. The asymmetry of the turbulent jet actuated from six different orifices were found due to the asymmetric orientation of the spark plug, resulting in the inhomogeneous distribution of combustion in the constant volume chamber, which should be considered seriously in the marine engine design. Besides,as the premixed pressure increases, it has more effect on the flame propagation and plays a more important role, as it further increases.

Synthetic polypeptides,also known as poly(α-amino acid)s(PαAAs),are biomimetic and biodegradable polymers holding great potential for a variety of biomedical applications.Possessing the same peptide bonds as natural proteins,polypeptides can also adopt typical well-defined secondary structures includingα-helix,which have been shown to significantly impact the physicochemical properties and biological outcomes of materials.In this feature article,we review the state-of-the-art progresses ofα-helical polypeptides for biomedical applications,with a special emphasis on the manipulation of helix-to-coil dynamic transition,conformation-associated anti-biofouling coatings,cellular uptake regulation,and reducing immunogenicity of polypeptide-protein conjugates.Finally,perspectives on outstanding challenges remained in this field and some important future directions are discussed.

Stomata play an essential role in regulating water and carbon dioxide levels in plant leaves,which is important for photosynthesis.Previous deep learning-based plant stomata detection methods are based on horizontal detection.The detection anchor boxes of deep learning model are horizontal,while the angle of stomata is randomized,so it is not possible to calculate stomata traits directly from the detection anchor boxes.Additional processing of image(e.g.,rotating image)is required before detecting stomata and calculating stomata traits.This paper proposes a novel approach,named DeepRSD(deep learning-based rotating stomata detection),for detecting rotating stomata and calculating stomata basic traits at the same time.Simultaneously,the stomata conductance loss function is introduced in the DeepRSD model training,which improves the efficiency of stomata detection and conductance calculation.The experimental results demonstrate that the DeepRSD model reaches 94.3%recognition accuracy for stomata of maize leaf.The proposed method can help researchers conduct large-scale studies on stomata morphology,structure,and stomata conductance models.

To the Editor:Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease(ADPKD)is a common inherited kidney disease with an estimated incidence of 1 in 400 to 1 in 1000.[1] It is a late-onset systemic disorder characterized by the development and progressive enlargement of cysts in the kidney,eventually leading to end-stage renal disease.[2] Previous studies have shown that ADPKD is a heterogeneous monogenic disorder resulting from mutations in two genes:PKD1 and PKD2.Clinical data showed that PKD1 and PKD2 mutations account for 85% and 15% of ADPKD cases,respectively.[3]

The brittleness of cement composites makes cracks almost inevitable, producing a serious limitation on the lifespan, resilience, and safety of concrete infrastructure. To address this brittleness, self-healing concrete has been developed for regaining its mechanical and durability properties after becoming cracked, thereby promising sustainable development of concrete infrastructure. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the latest developments in self-healing concrete. It begins by summarizing the methods used to evaluate the self-healing efficiency of concrete. Next, it compares strategies for achieving healing concrete. It then discusses the typical approaches for developing self-healing concrete. Finally, critical insights are proposed to guide future studies on the development of novel self-healing concrete. This review will be useful for researchers and practitioners interested in the field of self-healing concrete and its potential to improve the durability, resilience, and safety of concrete infrastructure.

The laws and regulations in human history can be revealed by computational models.From 221 before Christ(BC)to 1912 Anno Domini(AD),the unification pattern has dominated the main part of Chinese history for 2132 years.Before the emergence of the first unified empire,the Qin Empire in 221 BC,there existed the Eastern Zhou dynasty(770 BC to 221 BC).This long dynasty has two stages,and here we focus on the first stage.This Spring-Autumn stage was from 770 BC(with 148 states)to 476 BC(with 32 states).The whole country(China)is modelled as a multi‐agent system,which contains multiple local states.They behave autonomously under certain action rules(wars and conflicts),which forms the main reason for the annexations and disappearance of most states.Key factors(power,loyalty,bellicosity and alliance)have been considered in our model settings,and simulation outcomes will be monitored and collected.Eventually,an optimal solution is obtained,which well unveils the internal mechanism and statistical features of real big history.Furthermore,counterfactuals are used to explore the non‐linear effects of the key factors,which deepens the authors’understanding of civilisa-tion evolutions in human history.

On-demand regulation of molecular weight distribution(MWD)is crucial to influence the properties of polymers.In this work,we reported an organocatalyzed photo-controlled radical polymerization(photo-CRP)from the tosyl chloride initiator by combining two disulfides as chain transfer agents.This novel synthetic protocol allows facile access toward well-defined polymers with tunable MWDs and predetermined molecular weights.Experiments including structural characterization,kinetic investigation and chain-extension polymerization exhibited good chain-growth control for polymers of different dispersities.Given the easy accessibility of the initiating site(sulfonyl chloride)on many aromatic sources,this work presents a promising avenue to modify such substances with polymers of tailored MWDs,chain lengths and repeating units under metal-free and mild conditions driven by light.
