We examined the mycobiota associated with Vismia guianensis leaf litter in three Atlantic Forest remnants of Brazil＇ s semiarid region. Among the study sites, two remnants were protected forest reserves, whereas the third was influenced by major anthropogenic activities. Eighteen litter samples were collected in wet and dry seasons and were processed by particle filtration technique. A total of 4750 fungal isolates of 142 taxa were identified. species richness was higher in litter samples collected during wet season. Nonmetric multidimensional scaling multivariate analysis showed differences in the composition of fungal communities among the sampling sites and the seasons. Analysis of similarity showed that the differences were statistically significant （R = 0.85; P = 0.0001）. Our findings revealed that spatial and temporal heterogeneity, and human activities had significant impacts on the saprobic fungi of V. guianensis leaf litter.

What is the value of eucalyptus monocultures for the biodiversity of the Atlantic forest? A multitaxa study in southern Bahia, Brazil

Eucalyptus plantations are increasing in Brazil, frequently replacing pastures, but there is still scarce information about its capacity to maintain the fauna of neighbor forest remnants. In this study, we compared descriptors of the communities of leaf litter organisms （lizards, anurans, myriapods, arachnids, orthopterans, coleopterans, and ants） between a large remnant of primary Atlantic Forest and an adjacent eucalyptus monoculture （phase 1）. Then, we compared the same descriptors for leaf litter lizards and anurans, Euglossini bees, and frugivorous butterflies among the largest remnant, small remnants at intermediate regeneration stage, and eucalyptus monocultures that were not adjacent to the largest remnant （phase 2）. Monocultures were sampled immediately before logging. In phase 1, we detected significant differences in structure between the forest and the monoculture in six out of seven communities sampled. Ca. 81% of the species of the landscape were recorded in the forest, but only 54% of these were found also in the monoculture. In phase 2, the structure of two out of four forest communities was significantly different from the structure of small remnants and monocultures. On average, 76% of the species found in the whole landscape were sampled in the forest. Out of this subset, on average 74% of the species were also sampled in small remnants and 68% in monocultures. Findings of the present study point out a moderate capacity of eucalyptus monocultures to harbor species of the forest fauna even when fully grown but highlights the opportunity that they might offer for increasing connectivity in anthropogenic forest landscapes depending on their management.

BACKGROUND Merkel cell carcinoma(MCC)is a rare and aggressive cutaneous neuroendocrine neoplasia,with high risk of recurrence and metastasis and poor *** checkpoint inhibitors,like the anti-programmed death-ligand 1 agent avelumab,were recently approved for the treatment of advanced ***,herein,report the first case of advanced MCC with oligoprogression managed with avelumab and local radical *** sUMMARY A 61-year-old man was presented to the hospital with sporadic fever and an exudative malodorous mass(10 cm of diameter),located on the right gluteal *** final diagnosis was MCC,cT4N3M1c(AJCC,TNM staging 8th edition,2017),with invasion of adjacent muscle,in-transit metastasis,and bone *** started chemotherapy(cisplatin and etoposide),and after six cycles,the main tumor increased,evidencing disease *** months later,the patient started second line treatment with avelumab(under an early access program).After two cycles of treatment,the lesion started to decrease,achieving a major *** progression was documented after 16 ***,as the tumor became resectable,salvage surgery was performed,while keeping the systemic treatment with *** the patient developed bilateral pneumonia,immunotherapy was *** than 2.5 years after surgery(last 19 mo without systemic therapy),the patient maintains complete local response and stable bone *** This report highlights the efficacy and long-term response of avelumab on the management of a chemotherapy resistant advanced MCC,with evidence of oligoprogression,in combination with local radical treatment.

Insectivorous Palaearctic bird species associated with open habitats rely on high prey abundances,which are currently declining due to habitat loss and intensive agricultural *** European Bee-eater(Merops apiaster)is an opportunistic insectivore of open habitats,preying mainly on medium to large-sized flying *** diet composition received some attention in the past,but the current variation in diet composition of birds breeding across different habitats,and between adults and chicks remains poorly *** this study,we determine variation in bee-eaters’diet in colonies located in five common habitats at the Iberian *** also assess differences in the diet composition of chicks and adults and investigate seasonal diet selectivity of ***,we explore the variability in the size of prey provided to chicks throughout their growth *** and Coleoptera were the most important groups for bee-eaters,with adults and chicks consuming 58.8%and 64.1%of hymenopterans and 37.6%and 28.6%of coleopterans,*** proportion of Hymenoptera(42.3–55.7%)and Coleoptera(43.3–53.5%)in the diet was similar in colonies in pasture and oak habitats,but Hymenoptera dominated(83.8%and 95.7%)in meadow and mixed forest *** being a generally opportunistic predator,adult bee-eaters provide their progeny with an increasing proportion of larger insects through chick ***,they equally take Hymenoptera and Coleoptera for themselves and their chicks,even when the abundance of these insects decreases ***,these results suggest that local prey availability associated with specific habitats influences diet composition and that regional declines in certain groups may,therefore,affect insectivore species differently according to their dietary and habitat preferences.

3D City Models as a Visual support Tool for the Analysis of Buildings seismic Vulnerability: The Case of Lisbon

3D city models associate a database of a city to a rigorous geospatial representation that is close to the visible reality by combining appearance, geometry, and semantics. As such, these models may include tools that convey attribute analysis, not only at the statistical level but also in terms of visual appearance of the objects, thus allowing the generation of new knowledge about a phenomenon or its effects. Lisbon is a city with a moderate level of seismic risk, and has been hit in the past by strong earthquakes. several seismic vulnerability studies of buildings have been carried out in Lisbon. These studies generate different scenarios that consider the magnitude and source location of potential earthquakes. The results of these studies were presented as maps obtained from crossing information contained in 2D layers and presented in a GIs environment. In the present study a seismic vulnerability assessment of Lisbon's buildings held in 2D is extended to the third dimension, which refines the resolution and the set of parameters and explores the gains of spatial analysis in 3D representations. The numerous parameters that contribute to assess seismic vulnerability of buildings may be analyzed individually or simultaneously as well as in multiple seismic scenarios. Although covering all residential buildings in Lisbon, the application of the 3Dcity model is demonstrated with more detail in three pilot areas.
