Transcatheter aortic valve replacement （TAVR） has revolutionised the treatment of patients with aortic stenosis （As） over the last 15 *** is a well-established procedure for the treatment of patients considered high risk for open surgery. Results from the PARTNER （Placement of AoRTic traNscathetER） trial showed that inoperable patients randomly assigned to TAVR, had a 20% reduction in all-cause mortality, as well as hospitalisation, at one year compared to best medical management.

AIM： To determine whether neutrophil depletion and Kupffer cell inhibition might combine their protective effects to decrease the severity of acute pancreatitis. METHODs： Nice had cerulein administration to induce acute pancreatitis and were pretreated with either anti-mouse neutrophil serum or gadolinium chloride （Gdch） to prevent Kupffer cell activation, or both treatments. Injury was assessed in pancreas and lungs. Myeloperoxidases （MPO） assessed neutrophil infiltration. Interleukin-6 （IL-6） and IL-10 were measured in serum, pancreas, lungs and liver. REsULTs： In mice with acute pancreatitis, neutrophil depletion reduced the severity of pancreatitis and pancreatitis-associated lung injury. Kupffer cell inactivation by Gdch had less protective effect, although IL-6 and IL-10 concentrations were significantly decreased. The protective treatment brought by neutrophil depletion was not enhanced by Kupffer cell inactivation and both treatments did not combine their protective effects. cONcLUsION： Our results confirm the role of activated neutrophils in aggravating organ injury in acute pancreatitis while the role of Kupffer cell activation is less obvious.

Objective: A variety of ion channels have been implicated in breast cancer proliferation and *** K+(Kv) channels not only cause repolarization in excitable cells,but are also involved in multiple cellular functions in non-excitable *** this study we investigated the role of Kv channels in migration of BT474 breast cancer ***: Transwell technique was used to separate migratory cells from non-migratory ones and these two groups of cells were subject to electrophysiological examinations and microfluorimetric measurements for cytosolic *** migration was examined in the absence or presence of Kv channel ***: When compared with non-migratory cells,migratory cells had much higher Kv current densities,but rather unexpectedly,more depolarized membrane potential and reduced *** transcriptasepolymerase chain reaction(RT-PcR) analysis revealed the presence of Kv1.1,Kv1.3,Kv1.5,Kv2.1,Kv3.3,Kv3.4 and Kv4.3 *** migration was markedly inhibited by tetraethylammonium(TEA),a delayed rectifier Kv channel blocker,but not by 4-aminopyridine,an A-type Kv channel ***: Taken together,our results show that increased Kv channel expression played a role in BT474 cell migration,and Kv channels could be considered as biomarkers or potential therapeutic targets for breast cancer *** mechanism(s) by which Kv channels enhanced migration appeared unrelated to membrane hyperpolarization and cainflux.

In order to better understand the mechanical properties of graded crushed rocks （GcRs） and to optimize the relevant design, a numerical test method based on the particle flow modeling technique PFc2D is developed for the california bearing ratio （cBR） test on GGRs. The effects of different testing conditions and micro-mechanical parameters used in the model on the cBR numerical results have been systematically studied. The reliability of the numerical technique is verified. The numerical results suggest that the influences of the loading rate and Poisson＇s ratio on the cBR numerical test results are not significant. As such, a loading rate of 1.0-3.0 mm/min, a piston diameter of 5 cm, a specimen height of 15 cm and a specimen diameter of 15 cm are adopted for the cBR numerical test. The numerical results reveal that the GBR values increase with the friction coefficient at the contact and shear modulus of the rocks, while the influence of Poisson＇s ratio on the GBR values is insignificant. The close agreement between the cBR numerical results and experimental results suggests that the numerical simulation of the cBR values is promising to help assess the mechanical properties of GGRs and to optimize the grading design. Be- sides, the numerical study can provide useful insights on the mesoscopic mechanism.

Background Local recurrence remains a serious problem among patients undergoing breast conservative surgery. This study aimed at identifying risk factors for residual disease after breast conservative surgery. Methods This retrospective study was based on patients with invasive breast cancer who have received breast conservative surgery and subsequent completion mastectomy. All patients had a clear resection margin in the initial operation. We analyzed the association between the presence of residual disease during completion mastectomy and the following risk factors： T staging, young age, and presence of extensive intraductal component （EIc）, a close margin, lymphovascular permeation （LVP）, positivity of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and c-erbB-2. Results Residual disease was encountered in 21 （45.7%） of 46 patients; EIc was present in 28 patients （60.9%）, of whom 17 had residual disease. Presence of EIc during breast conservation surgery was associated with a higher risk of residual disease during completion mastectomy （P=0.011）. Other variables were not statistically significant risk factors for presence of residual disease. No local recurrence was recorded in our cohort, and the disease-free survival and overall survival after completion mastectomy were similar for patients who had residual disease and those who had not. conclusions The presence of EIc is a significant risk factor for residual disease in patients after breast conservative surgery. Our findings may suggest the indicated value of completion mastectomy in patients with EIc during initial breast conservative surgery to decrease the risk of subsequent local failure.

It is not generally known that the inequality that Bell derived using three random variables must be identically satisfied by any three corresponding data sets of ±1’s that are writable on paper. This surprising fact is not immediately obvious from Bell’s inequality derivation based on causal random variables, but follows immediately if the same mathematical operations are applied to finite data sets. For laboratory data, the inequality is identically satisfied as a fact of pure algebra, and its satisfaction is independent of whether the processes generating the data are local, non-local, deterministic, random, or nonsensical. It follows that if predicted correlations violate the inequality, they represent no three cross-correlated data sets that can exist, or can be generated from valid probability models. Reported data that violate the inequality consist of probabilistically independent data-pairs and are thus inconsistent with inequality derivation. In the case of random variables as Bell assumed, the correlations in the inequality may be expressed in terms of the probabilities that give rise to them. A new inequality is then produced: The Wigner inequality, that must be satisfied by quantum mechanical probabilities in the case of Bell experiments. If that were not the case, predicted quantum probabilities and correlations would be inconsistent with basic algebra.

In constructing his theorem, Bell assumed that correlation functions among non-commuting variables are the same as those among commuting variables. However, in quantum mechanics, multiple data values exist simultaneously for commuting operations while for non-commuting operations data are conditional on prior outcomes, or may be predicted as alternative outcomes of the non-commuting operations. Given these qualitative differences, there is no reason why correlation functions among non-commuting variables should be the same as those among commuting variables, as assumed by Bell. When data for commuting and noncommuting operations are predicted from quantum mechanics, their correlations are different, and they now satisfy the Bell inequality.
