Effect of Crystallization Conditions on Polymorphic Diversity of Malic Acid RS-Racemate

Enantiomers （R （＋） and S（-））, RS-racemate mixture of enantiomers） of malic acid C4h605 have been （double compound） and （R ＋ S） -conglomerate （mechanical investigated by means of X-ray diffractometry and high tern- perature X-ray diffraction method. The RS-racemate was found to be able to form three polymorphic modifications, which we denominated as M1 （monoclinic, space group P21/c）, M2 （monoclinic, space group Cc）, and Tc （triclinic, space group P-l ）, the latter modification having been unknown before. Modification Tc was also described, and its X- ray diffraction characteristics, including interplanar spacings d, hkl indices, unit cell parameters, were defined. In addi- tion, X-ray diffraction characteristics for both reported earlier M1 and M2 monoclinic polymorphic modifications were measured with higher accuracy. The ability of RS-racemate to form one of the above three modifications （MI, M2, and Tc） or their mixtures containing various proportions and combinations of the components （M1 ＋ M2, M1 ＋ Tc, or M2 ＋ Tc） was found to depend on the type of crystallization medium （a melt, aqueous medium, ethanol or acetone solu- tion）, crystallization rate （from 2--3 minutes to 4 months）, and crystallization temperature. heating S-enantiomer and M1 RS-racemate up to their respective melting points （100 ℃ and 124 ℃, correspondingly） only made them undergo thermal deformations, while heating （R ＋ S） -conglomerate in the temperature range of 96--110 ℃ resulted in its homogenization to form M2 RS-racemate, which, near the melting point （118 ℃）, namely, in the range of 112-116 ℃, was transformed into MI RS-racemate. The shiny cowbird Molothrus bonariensis parasitizes many species with different life-history traits and has a detrimental effect on the survival of the progeny of the *** response,hosts have developed numerous antiparasitic ***,we examined the effects of brood parasitism by shiny cowbird on the clutch and brood sizes(83 nests)in a small host,the black-backed water tyrant Fluvicola *** also studied whether the death of parasite nestlings was related to the care of the foster parents and whether the host had any antiparasitic defense against the shiny *** results indicate that brood parasitism significantly decreased the host hatching and fledging *** majority of nest failures(57%)were caused by brood *** cowbird parasitism occurred in 52%of nests and the intensity of parasitism was 1.23±0.53 eggs per parasitized *** the total host eggs,54%were *** the incubation stage,20 nests(47%)were abandoned because of egg punctures by shiny cowbirds *** two parasitic fledglings were recorded,while the remaining nestlings either died from starvation(n=12)or predation(n=3).Foster parents abandoned parasitic nestlings between 5 and 10 days *** findings demonstrate that the shiny cowbird has very low rates of fledging success when parasitizing black-backed water ***,parasitism had a high reproductive cost in the black-backed water tyrant because a very low proportion(7%)of the parasitized nests(n=43)were successful.

This work reports on the development of pastes containing Ti,TiC,Si,and C elementary powders for in situ synthesis of Ti3SiC2 via screen *** paste compositions were manufactured using two powder mixtures(Ti/Si/C and Ti/TiC/Si/C)with different *** pastes were screen printed onto Al2O3 substrates and sintered at 1400℃in argon varying the dwell time from 1 to 5 *** printed pastes containing TiC and excess of Si exhibited the lowest surface roughness and after 5 h sintering comprised of Ti3SiC2 as the majority *** electrical conductivity of this sample was found to range from 4.63×10^(4)to 2.57×10^(5)S·m^(-1)in a temperature range of 25-400℃.

Textile wastewater contains highly toxic,nondegradable,carcinogenic organic pollutants,causing severe damage to the ecological *** this work,β-cyclodextrin carbon-sphere-based nanocomposite(CS/SiO_(2)@β-CD)with a core-shell-shell configuration was prepared by hydrothermal synthesis and subsequent sedimentation-azeotropic distillation with SiO_(2)as intermediate layer for the removal of crystal violet(CV)and bisphenol A(BPA).The chemical structure and morphology of the CS/SiO_(2)@β-CD were characterized by FT-IR,SEM and *** effects of contact time,ph,temperature and initial concentration of the absorbates on the adsorption property were *** CS/SiO_(2)@β-CD showed excellent adsorption capacity on CV and BPA,and the maximum adsorption capacity was 87.873 mg g^(-1)and 165.095 mg g^(-1),*** adsorption process was in line with the pseudo-second-order and pseudo-first-order kinetic models,*** adsorption thermodynamics could be better fitted by Langmuir model than by Freundlich *** calculated thermodynamic parameters(-ΔG0,ΔS0 andΔh0)illustrated the adsorption of CV was endothermic,in contrast,the adsorption of BPA was exothermic ***,the CS/SiO_(2)@β-CD showed excellent recovery performance,making it a potential adsorbent for the practical treatment of textile wastewater.

Identification of Lignin and Polysaccharide Modifications in Populus Wood by Chemometric Analysis of 2D NMR Spectra from Dissolved Cell Walls

2D ^13C-^1h hSQC NMR spectroscopy of acetylated cell walls in solution gives a detailed fingerprint that can be used to assess the chemical composition of the complete wall without extensive degradation. We demonstrate how multivariate analysis of such spectra can be used to visualize cell wall changes between sample types as high-resolution 2D NMR loading spectra. Changes in composition and structure for both lignin and polysaccharides can subsequently be interpreted on a molecular level. The multivariate approach alleviates problems associated with peak picking of overlapping peaks, and it allows the deduction of the relative importance of each peak for sample discrimination. As a first proof of concept, we compare Populus tension wood to normal wood. All well established differences in cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin compositions between these wood types were readily detected, confirming the reliability of the multivariate approach, In a second example, wood from transgenic Populus modified in their degree of pectin methylesterification was compared to that of wild-type trees. We show that differences in both lignin and polysaccharide composition that are difficult to detect with traditional spectral analysis and that could not be a priori predicted were revealed by the multivariate approach. 2D NMR of dissolved cell wall samples combined with multivariate analysis constitutes a novel approach in cell wall analysis and provides a new tool that will benefit cell wall research.
