Simultaneous thermal and contraction/expansion curves analysis for solidification control of cast irons

The first part of the paper summarizes the performance of two mould devices,illustrating by representative shrinkage tendency results in ductile cast iron as affected by mould rigidity(green and furan resin sand moulds)and inoculant type(FeSi-based alloys).Less rigid green sand moulds encourage the formation of contraction defects,not only because of the high initial expansion values(ε(di))(max),but also because of the increased solidification undercooling.A high inoculation efficiency means not only lowering the carbides formation sensitivity and increasing the nodule count,but also a prolonged graphitization through to the end of the eutectic freezing,as observed by the high population of small late forming nodules,which leads to minimizing the tendency for *** second part of the paper illustrates an application of this equipment to commercial foundry *** conducts thermal analysis and volume change measurements in a single ceramic cup with cast iron quality as a ***-bearing FeSi inoculant appears to be more effective than RE(Rare Earth)-FeSi alloy in FeSiMgCa treated irons(no RE),in terms of reducing eutectic undercooling and(ε(di))(max),favourable for lower sensitivity to shrinkage *** also compared solidification patterns for white[WI],grey[GI]and ductile[DI]irons,to correlate the most important events between the cooling curves and contraction curves,to evaluate the sensitivity to shrinkage *** of the irons have similar values for initial expansion up to the start of eutectic freezing,but,after that,the graphite formation promotes expansion(more than 5 times for nodular graphite),resulting in a difference in maximum expansion(2 times higher for DI).The graphitic expansion has two contrary *** graphitic expansion(force)leads to a higher shrinkage sensitivity during the first part of the eutectic reaction,but also to a decrease of shrinkage at the end of solidification,due to forcing the last liquid i

The modification of amyloid fibrils cytotoxicity through exogenous nanomaterials is crucial to understand the processes controlling the role of protein aggregation in the related *** influence of nanoparticles on amyloid stability yields great interest due to the small size and high surface area-to-volume ratio of *** physico-chemical parameters play a role in the interaction of proteins and nanoparticles in solution,thus influencing the disaggregation of preformed *** have examined the influence of two kinds of metallic nanoparticles on lysozyme amyloid fibrils using a multi-technique approach and focalized their impact on cytotoxicity on human neuroblastoma cells(SH-SY5Y).In particular,fluorescence,infrared and circular dichroism spectroscopies,optical and atomic force microscopy experiments have been carried out;the results are analyzed to rationalize the effects of these complexes on neural cell *** is remarkable,that the fibrils in the presence of AuNPs,unlike fibrils alone or with AgNPs,do not generate a significant cytotoxic effect even at high concentration and an amyloid degradation effect is visible.

In the contemporary society three are the most crucial features: a) the role of the metropolitan areas–where the dichotomy public/private is totally deconstructed by digital communication opportunities; b) the constant growing of a multigenerational population–which refuse any standardization of services and products; c) the need to develop a more sustainable way of life–especially considering the relationship between human behaviours and environment rhythms . The paper reports a research project which focused on these topics in order to identified and investigated a new meaning of public. The ‘outdoor’ space has been choice as consumption context, where re-discovering a different public dimension thanks to products and services developed according to three key words: sociality, wellbeing and energy. Energy, in the outdoor context, has been linked to nature as resource in terms of sustainability and conservation. Wellbeing has been considered as mental factor connected with concept of awareness. Sociality, as a spontaneous human action, has been investigated for its possible critical points: especially the safety of living among other people.

Hepatitis B virus burden in developing countries

Hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection has shown an intermediate or high endemicity level in low-income countries over the last five decades. In recent years, however, the incidence of acute hepatitis B and the prevalence of hepatitis B surface antigen chronic carriers have decreased in several countries because of the HBV universal vaccination programs started in the nineties. Some countries, however, are still unable to implement these programs, particularly in their hyperendemic rural areas. The diffusion of HBV infection is still wide in several low-income countries where the prevention, management and treatment of HBV infection are a heavy burden for the governments and healthcare authorities. Of note, the information on the HBV epidemiology is scanty in numerous eastern European and Latin-American countries. The studies on molecular epidemiology performed in some countries provide an important contribution for a more comprehensive knowledge of HBV epidemiology, and phylogenetic studies provide information on the impact of recent and older migratory flows.

Colonic sarcoidosis:Unusual onset of a systemic disease

Sarcoidosis is a multisystem chronic inflammatory condition of unknown etiology that has the potential to involve every tissue in the *** in the gastrointestinal system,and particularly the colon,is very ***,we report the case of a 57-yearold man with no previous diagnosis of sarcoidosis who presented with new onset of abdominal pain and constipation.A colonoscopy revealed that the abdominal pain was caused by an obstructing lesion in the cecum-ascending colon and lacked a clear histologic *** investigation revealed concentric wall thickening of the cecum-ascending colon with multiple satellite lymphadenopathies,highly suggestive of a *** patient underwent a laparotomy and a right hemicolectomy was performed.A diagnosis of colonic sarcoidosis was made after the resected specimen was ***,a chest computed tomography scan revealed lung involvement with atypical radiologic features in the absence of respiratory *** histologic examination of the surgical specimen can yield a diagnosis of gastrointestinal sarcoidosis due to the non-specificity of endoscopic and radiologic findings.

Non-invasive Assessment of Coronary Flow Velocity Reserve: A New Method Using Transthoracic Doppler Echocardiography

Summary: Transthoracic Doppler echocardiography (TTDE) allows noninvasive flow measurement in the distal left anterior descending artery (LAD). The feasibility of detecting coronary flow by contrast-enhanced TTDE with second harmonic technique was assessed, the coronary flow velocity reserve (CFVR) was evaluated in comparison to intracoronary Doppler flow (ICD) analysis and the CFVR after PTCA in LAD was investigated. In 77 (96 %) of 80 patients, CFVR was successfully determined with intravenous adenosine infusion. Doppler signal quality was evaluated in the first 46 patients by use of intravenous Levovist infusion and second harmonic technique. The Doppler flow was not visible in 1 patient only. CFVR determined from TTDE (2.77±0.65) was correlated closely with those from ICD (2.88±0.78) measurements (y=0.73x+0.67, r=0.87, P<0.001). In conclusion, TTDE is a feasible method and provides reliable data on CFVR which can be used for follow-up after PTCA.

Hepatitis B virus infection in immigrant populations

Hepatitis B virus(HBV) is the most common cause of hepatitis worldwide, with nearly 350 million people chronically infected and 600000 deaths per year due to acute liver failure occurring during acute hepatitis or, more frequently, in HBV-related liver cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma. Ongoing immigration from countries with a high HBV endemicity to those with a low HBV endemicity warrants particular attention to prevent the spread of HBV infection to the native population. This review article analyzes the epidemiology and virological and clinical characteristics of HBV infection in immigrant populations and in their host countries, and suggests prophylactic measures to prevent the spread of this infection. Among the immigrants from different geographical areas, those from South East Asia and sub-Saharan Africa show the highest prevalences of hepatitis B surface antigen(HBs Ag) carriers, in accordance with the high endemicity of the countries of origin. The molecular characteristics of HBV infection in immigrants reflect those of the geographical areas of origin: HBV genotype A and D predominate in immigrants from Eastern Europe, B and C in those from Asia and genotype E in those from Africa. The literature data on the clinical course and treatment of HBs Agpositive immigrants are scanty. The management of HBV infection in immigrant populations is difficult and requires expert personnel and dedicated structures for their assistance. The social services, voluntary operators and cultural mediators are essential to achieve optimized psychological and clinical intervention.

We really appreciated Geramizadeh, " Bile spillage and incidental gall bladder adenocarcinoma ", and Sandstrom et al. ,"Bile spillage should be avoided in elective cholecystectomy " (1,2). Both papers have been recently published in HepatoBiliary Surgery and Nutrition, 2019 (1,2). Starting from an analysis of the recent paper by Horkoff et al. "Adverse outcomes after bile spillage in incidental gall bladder cancer " in Annals of Surgery April 2019, they introduced a comprehensive discussion about epidemiology, diagnosis, therapy, prognostic factors and outcomes of incidental gallbladder cancer (1-3). They analyzed the possible risks related to bile spillage after cholecystectomy, in particular (1,2).

We read with pleasure papers by Cai et al. and Jia et al. published in HepatoBiliary Surgery and Nutrition, 2018, Volume 7, Issue 2 and 4, respectively (1,2). Both papers introduced comprehensive up-to-date literature reviews on indications and patient selection, surgical instruments, techniques, and outcomes of laparoscopic liver resections (LLRs) (1,2). Papers mentioned final statements by 2008 Louisville Statement and 2014 Morioka Consensus Conference (1,2). They stressed LLR non-inferiority to open procedures, in both minor and major liver resections as far as oncological and intraoperative/perioperative outcomes are concerned: reduced blood loss, lower postoperative morbidity and shorter length of hospitalization (1,2). Such results were corroborated by recent meta-analyses (3,4). Furthermore, some previous limitations for LLR look like they have been recently overcome (1-5). For example, tumor size, patient's old age and high BMI are no longer limitations for LLR, as Southampton Consensus guidelines suggested (5). Likewise, cirrhosis has been suggested as a further indication of LLR in highly selected patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and where it was performed by experienced surgeons (1-5).
