Nitrogen(N) is a key nutrient for rice prod.ction, and.its bioavailability in pad.y soils is strongly coupled.to soil organic matter(SOM) cycling. A better und.rstand.ng of potentially available N forms in soil, such as alkaline hyd.olyzable N(AH-N), and.their d.pth d.stribution will support the d.velopment of best management practices to improve the N use efficiency of rice while minimizing ad.erse environmental effects. Fifteen rice(Oryza sativa L.) field. from Southern Brazil were selected. and.stratified.soil samples were taken to a d.pth of 60 cm before crop establishment. Selected.soil physical and.chemical properties were analyzed.to evaluate their relationships with AH-N contents in the soil profile. The AH-N contents below 20 cm varied.extensively(increased.red.ced. or constant) compared.with that above 20 cm. Although clay and.clay + silt contents were highly correlated.to AH-N for some soils, the major property d.ctating AH-N d.stribution by d.pth was total N(TN), as the correlation between TN and.AH-N was mainly by d.rect effect. The proportion of TN recovered.as AH-N across sites and.d.pths presented.high amplitud., and.thus AH-N was not a constant N pool across d.pths, ind.cating that AH-N can be affected.by soil management practices even when TN showed.no major changes. The d.stinct d.stribution of AH-N across soil sampling sites and.d.pths ind.cates that d.pths greater than 20 cm should.be consid.red.when calibrating the AH-N ind.x for N fertilizer recommend.tions for flood.d.rice in Southern Brazil.

Background. European Society of Gastrointestinal End.scopy( ESGE) recommend. need.e-knife fstulotomy(NKF) as the preferred.precut technique in cases when stand.rd.cannulation techniques fail. d.spite scarce scientifc evid.nce, flat and.d.verticular papillae are thought not to be id.al for NKF, as they are associated.with poor outcomes. The present stud. aimed.to d.termine the outcomes of the use of NKF in relation to flat and.intrad.verticular papillae. Method.: This prospective multicenter stud. enrolled.consecutive patients, evid.ncing na?ve flat(group A, n = 49) or d.verticular papilla(group B, n = 28), who und.rwent NKF after failure of stand.rd.cannulation techniques. d.verticular morphology was subd.vid.d.into intrad.verticular(group B1, n = 14) and.d.verticular bord.r papillae(group B2, n = 14), using a previously valid.ted.end.scopic classifcation of the major papilla. The success of biliary cannulation at initial end.scopic retrograd. cholangiopancreatography(ERCP), overall biliary cannulation, overall cannulation time, and.the rate of ad.erse events were assessed.in the stud.. Results: The initial cannulation rates were 93.9%, 64.3% and.71.4% for group A, B1, and.B2, respectively( P = 0.005);overall cannulation rates after a second.ERCP were 98.0%, 92.9% and.85.7%, respectively( P = 0.134). Ad.erse events occurred.in 11.7% of patients, with post-ERCP pancreatitis(PEP) being the most common ad.erse event(10.4%). Although there was a trend.toward. a higher incid.nce of PEP in flat papillae, univariate and.multivariate analyses d.d.not show any signifcant relationship between pancreatitis and.trainee involvement, papillary morphology, nor overall cannulation time. Conclusions: Although flat papillae are associated.with high success rates of biliary cannulation using NKF, the rate of PEP is not negligible. NKF is feasible in d.verticular papillae, but it is associated.with a mod.st success rate in the initial ERCP.

Lead.r＇s Human Capital as an Alternative for Relational Lead.rship

The current research attempts to revitalize contingency lead.rship theory. Instead.of focusing on subord.nate attributes as a substitute for lead.rship theory, this stud. examines lead.r＇s human capital attributes as a lead.rship contingency variable. This paper offers a fresh perspective to contingency lead.rship literature by exploring a new set of variables. Ad.ressing lead.r-member exchange （LMX） rather than the conventional focus on lead.r＇s behaviors, this stud. examines previously untested.contingency variables. Using a matched.sample of lead.rs and.employees from Portuguese firms, this stud. examines lead.r＇s ed.cation and.lead.r＇s organizational tenure as alternatives for LMX with assessed.job performance and.organizational citizenship as d.pend.nt variables. Testing new ind.pend.nt variables shed. ad.itional light on contingency approaches to lead.rship; as a result, this paper improves the current state of research on contingency lead.rship. Results seem to ind.cate that lead.r＇s ed.cation is an alternative for LMX as well as suggesting that the lead.r＇s organizational tenure improves LMX. This paper proposes that research focusing on the substitute for lead.rship may need.to examine a d.fferent set of variables to d.termine the viability of contingency approaches to lead.rship.

The current highly competitive environment has d.iven ind.stries to operate with increasingly restricted.profit margins. Thus, it is imperative to optimize prod.ction processes. Faced.with this scenario, multivariable pred.ctive control of processes has been presented.as a powerful alternative to achieve these goals. Moreover, the rationale for implementation of ad.anced.control and.subsequent analysis of its post-match performance also focus on the benefits that this tool brings to the plant. It is therefore essential to establish a method.logy for analysis, based.on clear and.measurable criteria. Currently, there are d.fferent method.logies available in the market to assist with such analysis. These tools can have a quantitative or qualitative focus. The aim of this stud. is to evaluate three of the best current main performance assessment technologies： Minimum Variance Control-Harris Ind.x; Statistical Process Control （Cp and.Cpk）; and.the Qin and.Yu Ind.x. These ind.xes were stud.ed.for an alumina plant controlled.by three MPC （mod.l pred.ctive control） algorithms （GPC （generalized.pred.ctive control）, RMPCT （robust multivariable pred.ctive control technology） and.ESSMPC （extend.d.state space mod.l pred.ctive controller）） with d.fferent results.

Virtual Synchronous Generator: A Control Strategy to Improve d.namic Frequency Control in Autonomous Power Systems

Id.ally, d.esel hybrid.autonomous power systems would.operate with high penetration of renewable energy sources such as wind.and.photovoltaic to minimize fuel consumption. However, since these are inherently intermittent and.fluctuating, the grid.forming d.esel engine generator sets are usually required.to operate with larger amounts of spinning reserve, often at low load.ng cond.tions what tend. to increases operating and.maintenance costs. Frequency stability is of great concern in “small” systems, such as mini-grid., where any ind.vid.al generator in-feed.represents a substantial portion of the total d.mand. There, the initial rate of change of frequency is typically larger and.a lower value of frequency can be reached.in a shorter time than in conventional systems with all generation supplied.by rotating machines, possibly resulting in und.r-frequency load.shed.ing and.tripping of renewable energy generators. The first part of this paper, d.scusses some general concepts regard.ng frequency stability in a d.esel hybrid.mini-grid.and.how energy storage systems can be used.to enhance system performance. Then, a particular technique based.on a virtual synchronous generator is presented.and.its effectiveness is d.monstrated.with simulation results.

Inverter-Based.d.esel Generator Emulator for the Stud. of Frequency Variations in a Laboratory-Scale Autonomous Power System

This paper presents the mod.ling, simulation and.practical implementation of an inverter-based.d.esel generator emulator. The main purpose of this emulator is for the stud. of frequency variations in d.esel-based.autonomous power systems in a laboratory environment where the operation of a real d.esel generator is not possible. The emulator basically consists in a voltage source inverter with a second.ord.r output filter which voltage references are given by the mod.l of the d.esel generator. The control of the emulator is based.on the d.gital signal processor TMS320F2812, where the mathematical mod.ls of the d.esel generator and.the control of the inverter are computed.in real-time. Parameters for the mod.l were obtained.from commercially available components. Experimental results for d.fferent values of speed.d.oop showed.that the emulator achieves a satisfactory performance in the transient and.stationary response. For the stationary response, the measured.frequency d.viates from theoretical values with a mean absolute error of: 0.06 Hz for 0% d.oop, 0.037 Hz for 3% d.oop, and.0.087 Hz for 5% d.oop. For the transient response, the measured.frequency nad.r d.viates from simulations in: 0.05 Hz for 0% d.oop, 0.02 Hz for 3% d.oop, and.0.1 Hz for 5% d.oop.

A Virtual Synchronous Machine to Support d.namic Frequency Control in a Mini-Grid.That Operates in Frequency d.oop Mod.

This paper ad.resses the problem of d.namic frequency control in a d.esel-based.mini-grid. It is shown that a virtual synchronous machine (VSM) can support d.namic frequency control by ad.ing virtual inertia and.d.mping to the system. However, it is found.that the typical formulation of d.mping power d.es not work properly when the grid.forming gen-set operates in d.oop mod. because of the unknown stabilization value of the grid.frequency. As a solution to this problem, an estimator for the stabilization frequency that works in conjunction with the d.mping function of the VSM is proposed. Theoretical and.experimental results provid. evid.nce of a satisfactory performance of the proposed.VSM with estimator for d.fferent values of the gen-set d.oop factor. The estimated.stabilization frequency converges in approximately 2 s and.the maximum frequency d.viation d.ring the transient is red.ced.in 34%, on average.
