Chitin powder and chitin-aerogel.were prepared from shrimp wastes and used to uptake Y^(3+)from aqueous sol.tions and concentrate this rare earth el.ment from phosphogypsum(PG).Chitin aerogel.displ.ys a specific surface area of 945 m^(2)/g,whil. chitin powder is 3.6 m^(2)/g,which l.rgel. infl.ences its adsorption *** the adsorption in synthetic sol.tions,the effect of pH on Y^(3+)removal.is strong for chitin powder *** contrast,no big pH infl.ence was detected for chitin *** interactions and chel.tion can highl.ght the proposed mechanism of Y^(3+)on chitin adsorbents for the powder and ***,in addition to these interactions,pore fil.ing/pore diffusion is the main mechanism of Y^(3+)removal.in the chitin *** aerogel.is efficient in concentrating 8 times the Y^(3+)from PG,a very compl.x *** compl.x chitin aerogel.Y^(3+)can be a secondary source of rare earth el.ments for other appl.cations.

A mutant l.brary of the bacterium Xanthomonas citri subsp. citri strain 306 pathotype A (Xac), the causative agent of most aggressive Asiatic type A citrus canker, was screened regarding al.ered canker symptoms after inocul.tions into Citrus sinensis and Citrus l.monia host l.aves. Twenty-six mutants have shown phenotypic virul.nce changes and have respectivel. knocked out gene identified by sequencing. In vivo growth curves were obtained for nine mutants to quantify how the mutations coul. affect pathogen’s adaptabil.ty to growth inside and attack host pl.nt infected tissue. Among identified genes in mutated strains, we coul. find those that until.now had not been reported as being invol.ed in Xac adaptation and/or virul.nce, such as predicted to encode for xyl.se repressor-l.ke protein (XACΔxyl.), Fe-S oxidoredutase (XACΔasl.), hel.case IV (XACΔhel.), ubiquinol.cytochrome c oxidoreductase iron-sul.ur subunit (XACΔpetA), chromosome partitioning protein (XACΔparB) and cel. division protein FtsB (XACΔftsB), in addition to genes predicted to encode for hypothetical.proteins. The new genes found in this study as being rel.vant to adaptation and virul.nce, improve the understanding of Xac fitness during citrus pl.nt attack and canker symptoms devel.pment.

The spatial.pattern distribution of pl.nt hormones in response to al.minum (Al. toxicity in roots remains to be shown. This study was performed to assess the root hormonal.accumul.tion and gene expression in response to Al.toxicity in five transgenic miniature dwarf tomatoes cv. Micro-Tom (MT). MT and MT transgenics to acid indol. acetic, cytokinin, gibberel.in, abscisic acid and ethyl.ne were cul.ivated in nutrient sol.tions containing different Al.concentrations. Root growth el.ngation was measured and cel.ul.r damage was visual.zed by staining Evans’s bl.e. The GUS reporter gene staining technique was used to visual.ze hormonal.changes in MT apex root tissues. Data indicated that the MT is sensitive to Al.that induced significant growth inhibition and cel.ul.r damage. Al.concentration of 27 μM was significantl. toxic, inducing root apex darkening and inhibition of root devel.pment. The qual.tative eval.ation of GUS reporter gene expression showed intense crosstal. among al. hormones studied, underscoring the compl.xity of signal.ng induced by Al.in apex roots. Resul.s point out to a major understanding of the hormonal.signal.ng in response to Al.toxicity, which may induce a change of root growth and architecture with growth inhibition and cel. constraints modul.ted by al. different hormones eval.ated.

It consists of a retrospective study with twenty-two individual. diagnosed with DRC: fourteen HD and eight CAPD, fol.owed up in the dial.sis center of Antonio Pedro University Hospital.(HUAP) of Fl.minense Federal.University (UFF), between 2015 and 2017. Fifteen heal.hy control.(HC) subjects were incl.ded, without diagnosed CKD. Patients with HIV positive, hepatitis A, B, and C, pregnant, cancer, smokers, al.ohol.cs and those exposed to X-rays in the l.st 3 months, were excl.ded. Objectives: As oxidative stress and endothel.al.dysfunction may be l.nked to the higher preval.nce of CVD in CKD patients, we measured the activities of the antioxidants enzymes: SOD and GPx and total.NO l.vel. in the pl.sma and serum of end-stage CKD patients undergoing dial.sis therapy, comparing with the HC group. Methods: Quantification of NO l.vel. was performed by fl.orometric kit, whil. activities of SOD and GPx were determined using kinetic methods. Resul.s: We found higher pl.sma SOD activity in HD (8.58 U/ml. and CAPD (10.14 U/ml., compared to C (3.73 U/ml. group, whil. GPx activity was decreased in HD (115.38 nmol.h/ml. and CAPD (122.76 nmol.h/ml. groups compared to HC group (275.83 nmol.h/ml.. Total.serum NO concentration was decreased in HD (14.09 pmol.μl. and CAPD (10.26 pmol.μl., compared to non-CKD patients (49.65 pmol.μl.. Concl.sion: Decreased total.serum NO and GPx activities may l.ad to endothel.al.dysfunction and consequentl. a higher preval.nce of CVD in CKD patients.

The Al.o MoxotóTerrane of the Borborema Province presents a wide exposure of Pal.oproterozoic crust,but unl.ke other continental.bl.cks of South America,its orogenic history is strongl. obl.terated by l.te Neoproterozoic *** isotopic and geochemical.studies were conducted in mafic-ul.ramafic(Fazenda Carmo Suite)and granitic-gneissic rocks(Riacho do Navio Suite)within the *** former present zircon U-Pb crystal.ization ages at ca.2.13 Ga,whereas Sm-Nd data suggests a juvenil. origin via mel.ing of earl. Pal.oproterozoic to Archean peridotitic *** data for these rocks are compatibl. with thol.iitic magmas with some degree of crustal.contamination and trace el.ment distribution points to a continental.arc rel.ted setting interpreted as remnants of the earl. stages of *** contrast,the Riacho do Navio Suite was empl.ced at ca.2.08 Ga and has highl. negativeεNd(t)val.es indicating crustal.*** suite displ.ys cal.-al.al. to al.al.-cal.ic and ferroan geochemical.signatures compatibl. with Cordil.eran *** addition,trace-el.ment distribution as wel. as discriminant diagrams suggest that the precursor magmas were generated during the l.ter stages of a continental.arc or in a syn-col.isional.*** on our resul.s,we suggest that the studied units might represent missing pieces of a Pal.oproterozoic accretionary orogen that formed the crustal.framework of the Al.o MoxotóTerrane,and that this represents a bl.ck associated with assembl. of the Nuna/Col.mbia supercontinent,which is now l.rgel. hidden within the Neoproterozoic orogenic bel.s of West Gondwana.
