Expanded pore-emanated cracking model for brittle failure of sedimentary rocks under triaxial compression

Brittle fracture and its relationship to deformation and strength have been a fundamental area of research in rock *** paper presents an expanded pore-emanated cracking model to better understand the fracture behaviors and predict the compressive strength of sedimentary *** proposed model is developed to account for a triaxial compression condition using the triaxial compression test results on sandstone,limestone and siltstone samples from Wyoming,USA and experimental data on sedimentary rocks collected from published *** normalized critical crack length is determined from the proposed model through which the peak compressive strength is estimated when the stress intensity at the crack tip reaches a critical value called the fracture *** indicate that the rock porosity and pore radius have an inverse relationship with the compressive *** the porosity-permeability relationship,the pore radius is calculated in terms of porosity and grain ***,the effect of grain size is implicitly included in the model and negatively correlated with the compressive ***,a new approach is proposed for the estimation of fracture toughness based on the pore radius and confining *** predicted compressive strengths from the proposed model show a good agreement with the measured strengths with a mean bias(*** ratio of the measured to predicted strengths)of *** influence ofφand K_(IC)onσ1 was thoroughly studied using parametric *** study concludes that the effect ofφis more prominent than K_(IC)onσ*** a constant porosity of 0.1,the stress ratio decreases from 0.0082 to 0.0078 when K_(IC)increases from 0.1 to 0.2,indicating a 5%decrease in stress ***,at a constant K_(IC)of 0.1,the stress ratio increases from 0.0082 to 0.014 when the porosity increases from 0.1 to 0.2,indicating 71%increases in stress ratio and therefore compressive strength.

Modeling of All-Optical Even and Odd Parity Generator Circuits Using Metal-Insulator-Metal Plasmonic Waveguides

Plasmonic metal-insulator-metal （MIM） waveguides sustain excellent property of confining the surface plasmons up to a deep subwavelength scale. In this paper, linear and S-shaped MIM waveguides are cascaded together to design the model of Mach-Zehnder interferometer （MZI）. Nonlinear material has been used for switching of light across its output ports. The structures of even and odd parity generators are projected by cascading the MZIs. Parity generator and checker circuit are used for error correction and detection in an optical communication system. Study and analysis of proposed designs are carried out by using the MATLAB simulation and finite-difference- time-domain （FDTD） method.

本文在无通量和粗糙边界的情况下演示了化学反应对微极性纳米流体中热对流初始状态的影响。本研究应用Saffman界面条件求解粗糙边界。考虑在许多工业应用中具有重要作用的微极性非牛顿纳米流体。对于线性稳定性,利用正态模态技术(NMT)将控制系统的偏微分方程(PDE)转化为特征值问题(EVP),并采用基于有限差分的三阶段LobattoⅢa方法进行数值求解。发现对流的主要模式是静止模式。增加纳米流体中热流通量与自旋霍尔效应的耦合系数(δ)、自旋霍尔效应与涡度的耦合系数(K)、粗糙度参数(λ_(1),λ_(2))、化学反应参数(Cr)、修正扩散比(NA)和微极性参数(A)的取值,可以降低对流,从而稳定系统。然后,在81个数据点的基础上,利用嵌入多人感知的人工神经网络(ANN)确定四个控制参数与Rayleigh临界数之间的关系。

Cranial defects often occur due to trauma. The treatment of such defects is a challenge to the skill and knowledge of the practitioner. This article presents one such case, where a 15-year-old boy had suffered extensive loss of the right cranium following a road traffic accident. The patient required rehabilitation of the right fronto-temporal cranial anatomy and was managed using a custom made heat polymerized acrylic alloplastic implant.

India reports the highest number of malaria cases in Southeast Asia,of which Plasmodium falciparum contribute more than half of the cases every *** eastern states of India contribute only 3.96%of country’s population but account for>10%of total reported malaria cases.11%of Plasmodium falciparum cases and 20%of malaria related deaths *** India,chloroquine resistance was reported for the first time from northeast region and since then chloroquine treatment failure is being reported from many parts of the *** chloroquine treatment failure has led to change of the drug policy to artemisinin combination therapy as first line of malaria treatment in the ***,replacing chloroquine to artemisinin combination therapy has not shown significant difference in the overall malaria incidence in the region,The present review addresses the current malaria situation of northeastern region of India in the light of antimalarials drug resistance.

Integrated application of some compatible biocontrol agents along with mustard oil seed cake and furadan on Meloidogyne incognita infecting tomato plants

Experiments were carried out to study the effect of two fungal bioagents along with mustard oil cake and furadan against root knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita infecting tomato under greenhouse condition. Bioagents viz., Paecilomyces lilacinus and Trichoderma viride alone or in combination with mustard cake and furadan promoted plant growth, reduced number of galls/plant, egg masses/root system and eggs/egg mass. The fungal bioagents along with mustard cake and nematicide showed least nematodes reproduction factor as compared to untreated infested soil.

目的:观察应用手风琴技术治疗骨搬移中骨痂再生不良的临床效果。方法:定期随访2018年9月-2021年5月广西医科大学第一附属医院创伤骨科手外科应用骨搬移技术治疗创伤性或肿瘤切除所致的骨缺损病人,对根据临床和X线照片判定骨痂再生不良的病例分析原因,釆用手风琴技术进行治疗,前瞻性观察骨痂再生改善的效果,采用Paley标准进行疗效评价,并结合相关文献进行分析讨论。结果:40例骨搬移病例中有5例(12.5%)骨搬移病人出现骨痂再生不良,致伤原因均为交通伤导致开放性骨折,并发大段骨缺损,其中4例采用环形外固定支架固定,1例釆用单边外固定支架固定,5例出现骨痂再生不良的原因主要为患者不严格按医嘱进行过快骨搬移。应用手风琴技术交替加压和牵张2-5个循环后骨痂再生均改善和矿化满意。骨搬运平均长度9.5cm(7.1-14.5cm)。骨愈合平均时间为488天(432-579天),愈合指数51 day/cm(40-65day/cm)。依据Paley标准评价:优1例,良2例,可1例,1例仍在治疗中。结论:定期随访发现骨搬移过程中骨痂再生不良可应用手风琴技术处理能有效改善骨痂再生,促进搬移间隙的骨痂矿化。手风琴技术是一种有效的促进骨痂再生的方法。

Adjunctive effects of acupressure therapy on pain and quality of life in patients with knee osteoarthritis:an interventional study

Objective To investigate the effect of acupressure therapy as an adjunctive therapy to pharmacological treatment on pain and health-related quality of life(QOL)among knee osteoarthritis(KOA)*** One hundred KOA patients were recruited from the orthopedic out-patient clinic of the *** patients were allocated randomly(flipping-coin simple randomization method)into an intervention group(n=50)and a control group(n=50).Patients in the intervention group received acupressure therapy along with pharmacological *** in the control group did not receive acupressure therapy but continued their pharmacological *** in pain(visual analog scale,VAS)and QOL(short-form 36-item health survey,SF-36)scores at baseline(A0),during training session(A1),follow-up at the 3rd month after training(A2)and follow-up at the 6th month after training session(A3)were collected and *** regression analysis was used to check the relationship between pain and SF-36 *** The VAS score of participants in the intervention group decreased at A3(P=0.001).Scores of physical functioning(PF),role limitations due to emotional problems(RE)and mental health(MH)of SF-36 in the intervention group improved more as compared with the control *** in the intervention group with improvement in VAS(pain)score showed greater changes in mean scores of all domains of SF-36 from baseline(all P<0.05).Except bodily pain(BP),the other domains of SF-36 were negatively correlated with pain *** Acupressure therapy with pharmacological treatment can improve health-related QOL and pain among KOA patients.

The ascorbic acid(AA)is a biomarker that can be used to detect the symptoms of severe disorders such as scurvy,Parkinson’s,Alzheimer’s,and cardiovascular *** this work,a simple and effective sensor model is developed to diagnose the presence of AA *** develop the sensor,a tapered single-mode optical fiber has been used with the well-known phenomenon of localized surface plasmon resonance(LSPR).For LSPR,the tapered region is immobilized with synthesized gold nanoparticles(AuNPs)and zinc oxide nanoparticles(ZnO-NPs)whose absorbance peak wavelengths appear at 519nm and 370nm,*** the basis of nanoparticles(NPs)configurations,two different biosensor probes are *** the first one,the sensing region is immobilized with AuNPs and named Probe *** the second probe,the immobilized layer of AuNPs is further coated with a layer of ZnO-NPs,and a resultant probe is termed as Probe *** characterizations of synthesized AuNPs and developed fiber probes are done by the ultraviolet-visible(UV-vis)spectrophotometer,high-resolution transmission electron microscope(HR-TEM),atomic force microscopy(AFM),and scanning electron microscope(SEM).To enhance the selectivity,a sensing region of probes is functionalized with ascorbate oxidase enzyme that oxidizes the AA in the presence of *** response of developed sensor probes is authenticated by sensing the samples of AA in the range from 500 nM to 1 mM,which covers the range of AA found in human bodies,i.e.,40μM-120μ*** performance analysis of the developed sensor probes has been done in terms of their stability,reproducibility,reusability,and *** observe the stability of AA,a pH-test has also been done that results in a better solubility of AA molecules in phosphate-buffered saline(PBS)solution.

Hepatitis viruses and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma: A review

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma(NHL) is among the haematological malignancies with high prevalence worldwide, causing estimated 355 900 new cases and 191 400 deaths in 2008. High prevalence of NHL is documented in economically more developed areas while low prevalence is observed in less developed areas of the globe. A wide array of environmental factors have been reported to be either directly involved or in modifying the risk of NHL development. In addition to these factors, a number of infectious agents, chiefly viruses have also been implicated in the development of NHL. This article reviews the available literature to discuss the role of hepatitis viruses in NHL development, possible mechanisms of lymphomagenesis and also identify the areas in which further research is required to better understand this disease. A brief discussion on the clinical aspects such as classification, staging, treatment approaches have also been included in this article.
