Obesity is a metabolic condition associated with a significant morbidity and mortality rate. In the pregnant context, this risk is even higher because of the contingent of metabolic and haemodynamic complications present in the ante-, intra- and post-partum periods. In these people, the recommended delivery method is caesarean section, which is not easy to perform. Our aim is to explain the particularities and advantages of epigastric incision in obese women during a caesarean section. The authors report the case of a patient who was admitted to the maternity ward of the Yaounde Central Hospital for management of a post-date, and in whom an elective caesarean section was indicated with an epigastric approach. The vertical supra umbilical incision should be recommended because it is subject to fewer complications and reduces the operating time and hospital stay.

The importance of ligaments in providing joint stability and the incidence of injuries, dictates a need to increase their structural and mechanical properties understanding. Additionally, one of the challenges in the orthopedic industry is to design TKA (total knee arthroplasty) aiming to be soft-tissues friendly. This requires a priori knowledge of physiological knee function, in which the passive stability is achieved and guaranteed by the complex envelope of soft tissues around the joint. Therefore, the knowledge of the mechanical behavior of knee ligaments is fundamental. For this reason, our study aims to define and apply in a pilot study, an ad-hoc methodology to mechanically characterize ligaments of native human knees. The cruciate and collateral ligaments from a fresh frozen cadaver leg were accurately harvested. Each ligament was independently tested during a tensile test at different strain rates, simulating different deformation speeds during gait. Moreover, additional tensile tests until failure were also performed. Axial force and deformation were continuously recorded during each test. Results show that each ligament exhibited own typical non-linear, speed-related behavior. High repeatability in the results is observed among the different repeated tests confirming the robustness of the used methodology. This information will be helpful for clinicians, engineers and researchers to improve the biomechanical knowledge about knee, to develop better implants and to be able to improve the currently available numerical models of the human knee.

Extraction and Characterization of Bagasse Fibres from Sugar Cane (<i>Saccharum officinarum</i>) for Incorporation into a Mortar

The paper reported a comparative study of the methods of extraction of vegetable fibres encountered in the literature;three main ones was chose, namely: combing, retting with pre-treatment of the bagasse in salt and distilled water, and Chemical extraction at three concentration levels of soda (2N, 1N, 0.1N) with pre-treatment of bagasse with salt water and distilled water. After extracting the fibres using these methods, it appeared that the natural methods (retting and combing) have a higher yield of around 70% compared to the chemical method which has a low yield of around 40%. The fibres obtained by the chemical extraction method (1N-BPD) had the best characteristics.

AIM To assess the arrhythmic determinants and prognosis of patients presenting with myocardial infarction and nonobstructive coronary arteries(MINOCA)with normal ejection fraction(EF).METHODS This is an observational analysis of 131 MINOCA patients with normal *** cardiac magnetic resonance(CMR)diagnosis classes were recognized according to the late gadolinium enhancement(LGE)pattern:Myocardial infarction(MI)(n=34),myocarditis(n=47),and"no LGE"(n=50).Ventricular events occurring during hospitalization were recorded and the entire population was followed-up at 1 *** Ventricular arrhythmia was observed in 18(13.8%)patients during ***"no LGE"patients experienced fewer ventricular events than the MI and myocarditis patients[4.0%vs 26.5%and 14.9%,respectively(P=0.013)].There was no significant difference between the MI and myocarditis *** multivariate analysis,LGE transmural extent[OR=1.52(1.08-2.15),P=0.017]and ST-segment elevation[OR=4.65(1.61-13.40),P=0.004]were independent predictors of ventricular arrhythmic events,irrespective of the diagnosis ***,no patient experienced sudden cardiac death or ventricular arrhythmia recurrence at *** MINOCA patients with normal EF presented no 1-year cardiovascular events,irrespective of the CMR diagnosis *** transmural extent and ST segment elevation at admission are risk markers of ventricular arrhythmia during hospitalization.

Elaboration and Characterization of a Fiber Composite Material Made of Petioles of the <i>Elaeis guineensis</i>(Oil Palm)

The aim of this study is to characterize physically and mechanically a polyester/fiber palm petiole composite material. This work made it possible to provide the local database of composite materials but also to develop agricultural waste. According to BSI 2782 standard three formulations [A (10% fiber, 90% polyester);B (20% fiber, 80% polyester) and C (30% fiber, 70% polyester)]. Water Absorption rate, density, compressive and three points bending tests are carried out on the samples obtained by the contact molding method for each formulation. The material composite obtained by adding fibers from palm oil petiole has a density of 17.98% lower than the one made of pure polyester. Fiber reinforcement rate has no impact on the density of the composite. Formulation A most absorbs water while formulation C has good tensile/compression characteristics and the greatest breaking stress in bending among the three formulations.

我在本文详述自己刚开始进行民族志研究的情况:当时我住在芝加哥黑人贫民区,撞进当地一家拳馆,那家拳馆便成了我田野研究的中心,我在那儿研究拳击手;那时我就打算写《身体与灵魂》一书,我在写作时运用皮埃尔·布迪厄的标志性概念——惯习,我既把这概念当成研究的方法,也希望通过自己的研究,经验性地解释这一概念。惯习既是我研究的主题:《身体与灵魂》剖析了拳馆这个熔炉如何改变了人的肉体与精神,以铸造出我这个合格的拳击家;惯习也是我研究的工具:在技术手段风行的经验研究领域,我用这一概念工具洞察种种社会现象。当时我既是个刚入行的社会学家,也是个刚入行的拳手,这项经验研究按前者的方法展现了后者的经历;作为刚入行的社会学家,我想从我的拳手经历中挖掘出更多的东西,找到其内在的逻辑与隐秘的特性;我认为可以把惯习当做检测社会行为的工具,我用双重身份检验了这一工具,发现这工具确实顺手好用。如果能把惯习概念运用得当,不仅可以用于发现社会行动的内在逻辑,还可为深度考察和亲身实践打下独特的理论基础。
