In order to explore an efficient and green method to deal with nitrobenzene(NB)pollutant,reduced graphene oxide(r GO)as an electron shuttle was applied to enhance the extracellular electron transfer(EET)process of Geobacter sulfurreducens,which was a typical electrochemically active bacteria(EAB).In this study,r GO biosynthesis was achieved via the reduction of graphene oxide(GO)by *** PCA within 3 ***,the r GOPCA combining system completely reduced 50-200μmol/L of NB to aniline as end product within one *** characterization revealed that PCA cells were partly wrapped by rGO,and therefore the distance of electron transfer between strain PCA and r GO material was ***,the ID/IGof GO,r GO,and r GO-PCA combining system were 0.990,1.293 and 1.31,***,highest currents were observed in r GO-PCA-NB as 12.950μA/-12.560μA at -408 m V/156 m V,attributing to the faster electron transfer efficiency in EET ***,the NB reduction was mainly due to:(I)direct EET process from *** PCA to NB;(II)r GO served as electron shuttle and accelerated electron transfer to NB,which was the main degradation ***,the biosynthesis of r GO via GO reduction by Geobacter promoted the NB removal process,which provided a facile strategy to alleviate the problematic nitroaromatic pollution in the environment.

Optimizing electronic structure of mo_(2)TiC_(2)T_(x) mXene through Nb doping for enhanced electrochemical performance

mXene is a promising electrode material for both high volumetric capacitance and high-rate performance in ***,the current study has mainly focused on the monometallic element Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) mXene until now,while the bimetallic and multimetallic mXene have received comparatively less *** this work,we demonstrate that the electronic structure of the mo_(2)TiC_(2)T_(x) mXene could be regulated by fine-tuning the content of doped Nb *** enhanced electron cloud density of surface–O termination and the electron spin of the mo atoms in the mo_(2)TiC_(2)T_(x) mXene,leads to the boost of electric double-layer capacitor(EDLC)and improvement of *** a consequence,the electrochemical performance of Nb-doped mo_(2)TiC_(2)T_(x) mXene(Nb-0.3-mXene)demonstrates a capacitance of 398 F·cm^(−3),roughly doubling that of the pristine mo_(2)TiC_(2)T_(x) mXene electrode at 197 F·cm^(−3) in the 3 m H_(2)SO_(4) *** the same time,the Nb-0.3-mXene could even maintain a capacitance of 82.75% at 200 mV·s−1,with high cyclic stability for 19,000 cycles at 10 A·g−***,Nb-0.3-mXene-based hybrid supercapacitors deliver a remarkable volumetric energy density of 48.1 W·h·L^(−1)at 230.7 W·L^(−1),and 34.4 W·h·L^(−1)at a high power density of 82.6 kW·L^(−1).There exists a balance between the volumetric capacitance and rate performance with different ratios of Nb atoms in the Nb-doped mXene due to the strong interaction between the Nb-doped mXene and the intercalated ***,optimizing the electronic structure of mXene through heteroatom doping is of great potential for enhanced supercapacitor performance.

Regulation of the pore structure of carbon nanosheets based electrocatalyst for efficient polysulfides phase conversions

The practical applications of lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries are hampered by the sluggish redox kinetics and polysulfides shuttle in the cyclic process,which leads to a series of problems including the loss of active materials and poor cycling *** this paper,the pore structures of carbon nanosheets based electrocatalysts were precisely controlled by regulating the content of water-soluble KCl *** relationship between pore structures and Li-S electrochemical behavior was studied,which demonstrates a key influence of pore structure in polysulfides phase *** the liquid-sloid redox reaction of polysulfides,the micropores and small mesopores(dm)exhibited little impact,while the meso-pores(d>20 nm)and macropores played a decisive *** a typical exhibition,the nickel-embedded carbon nanosheets(Ni-CNS)with a high content of large mesopores and macropores can aid Li-S batteries in exhibiting stable cycling performance(760.1 mAh g^(-1)at 1 C after 300 cycles)and superior rate capac-ity(847.8 mAh g^(-1)at 2 C).Furthermore,even with high sulfur loading(8 mg cm^(−2))and low electrolyte(E/S is around 6μL mg^(-1)),the high area capacity of 7.7 mAh cm^(−2)at 0.05 C could be *** work can provide a guideline for the design of the pore structure of carbon-based electrocatalysts toward high-efficiency sulfur species redox reactions,and afford a general,controllable,and simple approach to constructing high performance Li-S batteries.

Efficient and selective extraction of uranium(U(VI))from seawater is essential for sustainable nuclear power *** study reports a novel adsorbent zeolitic imidazolate framework(ZIF)-67@SiO_(2)-A/polyacrylamide(PAm)which was synthesized by grafting the core–shell metal–organic frameworks(mOFs)-based nanostructures coated with the 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane(APTES)functionalized SiO_(2)(SiO_(2)-A)onto PAm *** SiO_(2) shell was grown on the surface of mOF,which improved the acid-base resistance of *** introduction of ZIF-67@SiO_(2)-A enhances the specific surface area and adsorption efficiency of the *** ZIF-67@SiO_(2)-A/PAm shows remarkable adsorption capacity,fast adsorption kinetics,and good reusability for *** has excellent adsorption property(6.33 mg·g^(-1),30 d)in natural *** X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),Fourier transform infrared(FTIR),energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS)mappings,and density functional theory reveal that the coordination by N and O in ZIF-67@SiO_(2)-A/PAm with uranium is the main mechanism of uranium ***,ZIF-67@SiO_(2)-A/PAm has great potential to capture uranium from natural seawater.

Evaluation of diameter dis-tribution of inside cavities of open CNTs by analyses of nitrogen cryo-adsorption isotherm

Precise evaluation of innerdiameter distribution of open carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is the basis of systematic investigation of physico-chemical processes occurring in nano-sized quasi-1-dimensional carbons. Due to the porosity characteristics and adsorption properties, this study evaluated the innerdiameter and its distribution of carbon nanotubes by analyses of nitrogen cryo-adsorption isotherms, and proved that the gas adsorption method is an effective method to characterize the inner cavity structure in comparison with that of electron microscopy observations and Raman measurements. The advantages of this method are as follows: Firstly, statistical information for innerdiameter distribution of open nanotubes can be obtained; Secondly, the method based on the adsorption process in inner cavities is of importance for investigation of other physico-chemical pro- cesses inside the cavities of carbon nanotubes. Highly oriented mXene/polyvinyl alcohol films prepared by scalable layer-by-layer blade coating for efficient electromagnetic interference shielding and infrared stealth

Controlling the orientation of two-dimensional mXene within layered films is essential to optimize or tune their mechanical properties and electromagnetic interference shielding(EmI)performance,but achieving the high orientation mXene layers on an industrial scale remains a challenging *** this paper,a scalable layer-by-layer blade coating(LbLBC)method was employed to fabricate highly oriented mXene/polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)*** the LbLBC process,mXene/PVA colloid suffered a strong shearing effect,which induced the ordered alignment of mXene nanosheets along the direction of the blade *** orientation of mXene can be effectively adjusted by changing the scraping gap of LbLBC,achieving a maximum Herman orientation factor f of *** a result,the mechanical properties and EmI performance of the as-prepared mXene/PVA films are in direct proportion to their orientation,with the optimal values of tensile strength of 145.5 mPa,fracture strain of 19.6%,toughness of 17.7 mJ·m^(−3),and EmI shielding effectiveness of 36.7 ***,the inherently low mid-infrared(mid-IR)emissivity of mXene,combined with the densely oriented structure affords the composite films with IR stealth,resulting in a substantial decrease from 150 to 66.1℃in the radiative temperature of a ***,these scalable mXene/PVA films exhibit remarkable potential for integration into the next generation of multifunctional protective camouflage materials.

Elevated CO_(2) increases soil redox potential by promoting root radial oxygen loss in paddy field

Soil redox potential(Eh)plays an important role in the biogeochemical cycling of soil *** its effect soil process and nutrients'availability under elevated atmospheric CO_(2) concentration and warming has seldom been ***,in this study,a field experiment was used to elucidate the effect of elevated CO_(2) concentration and warming on soil Eh,redox-sensitive elements and root radial oxygen loss(ROL).We hypothesized elevated CO_(2) and warming could alter soil Eh by promoting or inhibiting *** found that soil Eh in the rhizosphere was significantly higher than that of *** CO_(2) enhanced soil Eh by 11.5%,which corresponded to a significant decrease in soil Fe^(2+)and mn^(2+)*** elevated CO_(2),the concentration of Fe^(2+)and mn^(2+)decreased by 14.7%and 13.7%,*** also found that elevated CO_(2) altered rice root aerenchyma structure and promoted rice root *** elevated CO_(2),rice root ROL increased by 79.5%and 112.2%for Yangdao 6 and Changyou 5,*** had no effect on soil Eh and rice root *** warming increased the concentration of mn^(2+)and SO_(4)^(2-)by 4.9%and 19.3%,*** was a significant interaction between elevated CO_(2) and warming on Fe^(2+)and mn^(2+).Under elevated CO_(2),warming had no effect on the concentration of Fe^(2+)but decreased mn^(2+)concentration *** study demonstrated that elevated atmospheric CO_(2) in the future could increase soil Eh by promoting rice root ROL,which will alter some soil nutrients'availability,such as Fe^(2+)and mn^(2+).

Asymmetric configuration activating lattice oxygen via weakening d-p orbital hybridization for efficient C/N separation in urea overall electrolysis

Urea oxidation reaction(UOR)is proposed as an exemplary half-reaction in renewable energy applications because of its low thermodynamical ***,challenges persist due to sluggish reaction kinetics and complex by-products *** this end,we introduce the lattice oxygen oxidation mechanism(LOm),propelling a novel UOR route using a modified CoFe layered double hydroxide(LDH)catalyst termed *** calculations and in-situ characterizations highlight the activated lattice oxygen(O_(L))within CFRO-7 as pivotal sites for UOR,optimizing the reaction pathway and accelerating the *** the urea overall electrolysis application,the LOm route only requires a low voltage of 1.54 V to offer a high current of 100 mA cm^(-2) for long-term utilization(>48 h).Importantly,the by-product NCO^(-)−is significantly suppressed,while the CO_(2)2/N_(2) separation is efficiently *** work proposed a pioneering paradigm,invoking the LOm pathway in urea electrolysis to expedite reaction dynamics and enhance product selectivity.

Regularly Tuning Quantum Interference in Single-molecule Junctions through Systematic Substitution of Side Groups with Varied Electron Effects

Investigating the quantum interference effect in single molecules is essential to comprehensively understand the underlying mechanism of single-molecule charge *** this study,we employed the mother molecule m-OPE and introduced a series of side groups with various electronic effects at the 2-position of the central phenyl ring,creating four daughter m-OPE *** single molecular conductivities of these molecule wires were measured using the scanning tunneling microscope breaking junction *** findings demonstrate that the substitutions regularly modulate the destructive quantum interference occurring within the m-OPE *** combining optical and electrochemical investigations,along with density functional theory computations,we discover that the conductivity of the molecules corresponds to the electron-donating/withdrawing ability of the ***,by adjusting the electron structures of the molecular backbone,we can systematically tailor the destructive quantum interference in the m-OPE molecules.
