Soil inorganic amendments produce safe rice by reducing the transfer of Cd and increasing key amino acids in brown rice

The digestibility of cadmium(Cd)in brown rice is directly related to amino acid metabolism in rice and human health.In our field study,three kinds of alkaline calcium-rich soil inorganic amendments(SIAs)at three dosages were applied to produce safe rice and improve the quality of rice in Cd-contaminated paddy.With the increased application of SIA,Cd content in iron plaque on rice root significantly increased,the transfer of Cd from rice root to grain significantly decreased,and then Cd content in brown rice decreased synchronously.The vitro digestibility of Cd in brown rice was estimated by a physiologically based extraction test.Results showed that more than 70%of Cd in brown rice could be digested by simulated gastrointestinal juice.Based on the total and digestible Cd contents in brown rice to evaluate the health risk,the application of 2.25 ton SIA/ha could produce safe rice in acidic slightly Cd-contaminated paddy soils.The amino acids(AAs)in brown rice were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography.The contents of 5 key AAs(KAAs)that actively respond to environmental changes increased significantly with the increased application of SIA.The structural equation model indicated that KAAs could be affected by the Cd translocation capacity from rice root to grain,and consequently altered the ratio of indigestible Cd in brown rice.The formation of indigestible KAAs-Cd complexes by combining KAAs(phenylalanine,leucine,histidine,glutamine,and asparagine)with Cd in brown rice could be considered a potential mechanism for reducing the digestibility of Cd.

Lupenone improves motor dysfunction in spinal cord injury mice through inhibiting the inflammasome activation and pyroptosis in microglia via the nuclear factor kappa B pathway

Spinal cord injury-induced motor dysfunction is associated with neuroinflammation.Studies have shown that the triterpenoid lupenone,a natural product found in various plants,has a remarkable anti-inflammatory effect in the context of chronic inflammation.However,the effects of lupenone on acute inflammation induced by spinal cord injury remain unknown.In this study,we established an impact-induced mouse model of spinal cord injury,and then treated the injured mice with lupenone(8 mg/kg,twice a day)by intrape ritoneal injection.We also treated BV2 cells with lipopolysaccharide and adenosine5’-triphosphate to simulate the inflammatory response after spinal cord injury.Our res ults showed that lupenone reduced IKBa activation and p65 nuclear translocation,inhibited NLRP3 inflammasome function by modulating nuclear factor kappa B,and enhanced the conve rsion of proinflammatory M1 mic roglial cells into anti-inflammatory M2 microglial cells.Furthermore,lupenone decreased NLRP3 inflammasome activation,NLRP3-induced mic roglial cell polarization,and microglia pyroptosis by inhibiting the nuclear factor kappa B pathway.These findings suggest that lupenone protects against spinal cord injury by inhibiting inflammasomes.

Flat jet electrochemical milling of TC4 alloy with tailoring backward parallel flow

In flat jet electrochemical milling, the electrolyte forms a backward parallel flow after impacting the workpiece, resulting in a weak current density distribution on the workpiece. Poor surface quality usually occurs on the machined titanium alloy surface because it inevitably suffers from the weak current density. In this study, a method of flat jet electrochemical milling with tailoring the backward parallel flow was proposed to eliminate the negative effects caused by the weak current density. Multiphysics simulations are carried out to comprehend the mechanism of flat jetEC milling with tailoring backward parallel flow and better construct the novel tool electrode.Experiments on flat jet electrochemical milling of TC4 alloy with and without tailoring backward parallel flow are conducted. The results reveal that, compared with flat jet electrochemical milling without tailoring backward parallel flow, the recommended tool reduces the surface roughness by86% to 93%, and improves the material removal rate by 93% to 163% with different feed rates.Additionally, the recommended tool is more conducive to maintaining the inherent hardness of the material. Finally, a surface with low Sa of 0.37 μm is obtained.

Analysis of influencing factors of anxiety and depression in patients with periodontitis

BACKGROUND Periodontitis is a chronic oral disease caused by pathogenic microorganisms that corrode tooth tissue,form periodontal pockets,absorb alveolar bone,and finally lead to tooth loss.During treatment,patients are prone to anxiety,tension,and other negative emotions,which affect their ability to face the disease and may also lead to aggravation of the original condition and affect oral health.Therefore,it is important to improve the negative psychology of patients with periodontitis to clarify the factors that may lead to negative psychological emotions.AIM To investigate the risk factors that may lead to anxiety and depression in patients with periodontitis.METHODS One hundred patients with periodontitis were selected between March 2022 and March 2023 at our hospital.All patients were assessed with the Zung Self-rating Depression Scale(SDS)(≥53 points indicate a depressive state)and Zung Selfrating Anxiety Scale(SAS)(≥50 points indicates an anxious state).In this study,patients who experienced anxiety or depression were included in the occurrence group and those without anxiety or depression were included in the nonoccurrence group.The baseline data of the two groups were compared to explore the risk factors for anxiety and depression in patients with periodontitis.RESULTS A total of 100 patients with periodontitis were included in this study.According to the SDS,38 patients(38.00%)developed depression,with an average SDS score of(68.52±5.85)points.According to the SAS,40 patients(40.00%)developed anxiety,and the average SAS score was(72.15±4.15)points.In this study,56 patients with anxiety or depression were included.Compared with the nonoccurrence group,the occurrence group had higher ages(≥60 years),lower level of hope(low level),educational level(high school or below),disease perception(poor),and sleep disorder(yes).The negative coping dimension scores of the simplified coping style questionnaire(SCSQ)and Dental Fear Scale(DFS)in the occurrence group were higher,whereas the score of the positive coping

Compared with electrical neural networks,optical neural networks(ONNs)have the potentials to break the limit of the bandwidth and reduce the consumption of energy,and therefore draw much attention in recent years.By far,several types of ONNs have been implemented.However,the current ONNs cannot realize the acceleration as powerful as that indicated by the models like quantum neural networks.How to construct and realize an ONN with the quantum speedup is a huge challenge.Here,we propose theoretically and demonstrate experimentally a new type of optical convolutional neural network by introducing the optical correlation.It is called the correlated optical convolutional neural network(COCNN).We show that the COCNN can exhibit“quantum speedup”in the training process.The character is verified from the two aspects.One is the direct illustration of the faster convergence by comparing the loss function curves of the COCNN with that of the traditional convolutional neural network(CNN).Such a result is compatible with the training performance of the recently proposed quantum convolutional neural network(QCNN).The other is the demonstration of the COCNN’s capability to perform the QCNN phase recognition circuit,validating the connection between the COCNN and the QCNN.Furthermore,we take the COCNN analog to the 3-qubit QCNN phase recognition circuit as an example and perform an experiment to show the soundness and the feasibility of it.The results perfectly match the theoretical calculations.Our proposal opens up a new avenue for realizing the ONNs with the quantum speedup,which will benefit the information processing in the era of big data.

Durable Ru Nanocrystal with HfO_(2)Modification for Acidic Overall Water Splitting

Durable and efficient bi-functional catalyst,that is capable of both oxygen evolution reaction and hydrogen evolution reaction under acidic condition,are highly desired for the commercialization of proton exchange membrane water electrolysis.Herein,we report a robust L-Ru/HfO_(2)heterostructure constructed via confining crystalline Ru nanodomains by HfO_(2)matrix.When assembled with a proton exchange membrane,the bi-functional L-Ru/HfO_(2)catalyst-based electrolyzer presents a voltage of 1.57 and 1.67 V to reach 100 and 300 mA cm^(-2)current density,prevailing most of previously reported Ru-based materials as well as commercial Pt/C||RuO_(2)electrolyzer.It is revealed that the synergistic effect of HfO_(2)modification and small crystalline domain formation significantly alleviates the over-oxidation of Ru.More importantly,this synergistic effect facilitates a dual-site oxide path during the oxygen evolution procedure via optimization of the binding configurations of oxygenated adsorbates.As a result,the Ru active sites maintain the metallic state along with reduced energy barrier for the rate-determining step(*O→*OOH).Both of water adsorption and dissociation(Volmer step)are strengthened,while a moderate hydrogen binding is achieved to accelerate the hydrogen desorption procedure(Tafel step).Consequently,the activity and stability of acidic overall water splitting are simultaneously enhanced.

Ubiquitously transcribed tetratricopeptide repeat on chromosome X(UTX),also known as lysine(K)-specific demethylase 6A(KDM6A),functions as a tumor suppressor gene or oncogene depending on the tumor type and context.However,its tumor-suppressive mechanisms remain largely unknown.Here,we investigated the clinical significance and biological effects of UTX expression in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDA)and determined the potential mechanisms of its dysregulation.UTX expression and its association with clinicopathologic characteristics of PDA patients were analyzed using immunohistochemistry.UTX mRNA and protein expression and their regulation in PDA cell lines were measured using quantitative polymerase chain reaction and Western blot analyses.The biological functions of UTX in PDA cell growth,migration,and invasion were determined using gain-and loss-of-function assays with both in vitro and in vivo animal models.UTX expression was reduced in human PDA cell lines and specimens.Low UTX expression was associated with poor differentiation and prognosis in PDA.Forced UTX expression inhibited PDA proliferation,migration,and invasion in vitro and PDA growth and metastasis in vivo,whereas knockdown of UTX expression did the opposite.Mechanistically,UTX expression was trans-activated by GATA6 activation.GATA6-mediated PDA progression could be blocked,at least partially,by silencing UTX expression.In conclusion,loss of GATA6-mediated UTX expression was evident in human PDA and restored UTX expression suppressed PDA growth and metastasis.Thus,UTX is a tumor suppressor in PDA and may serve as a prognostic biomarker and therapeutic target.

Enhanced Natural Convection for Accelerating Melting of Phase Change Material in Cellular Structure through Inserting Fin

The design of thermal conductivity enhancers(TCE) is quite critical to overcoming the disadvantage of the poor thermal conductivity of phase change materials(PCM).The main contribution of this study is firstly to discuss how to actively enhance natural convection of the melted PCM in cellular structure by the fin formed in the structure under the condition of the same metal mass,apart from simultaneously improving heat conduction,which can boost the heat transfer performance.Also,a tailored hybrid fin-lattice structure(HFS) as TCE is designed and fabricated by additive manufacturing(AM).A two-equation numerical method is applied to study the heat transfer of the PCM,and its feasibility is validated with the experimental data.The numerical results indicate that enhanced natural convection and improved heat conduction can be obtained simultaneously when a well-designed fin is embedded into a lattice structure.The enhanced natural convection results in the improved melting rate and the decreased wall temperature;e.g.,the complete melting time and the wall temperature are reduced by 11.6% and 19.7%,respectively,because of the fin for metal aluminum.Moreover,the parameters of HFS including the porosity,pore density,and fin dimension have a great impact on the heat transfer.The enhancement effect of the fin for HFS on the melting rate of the PCM increases as the thermal conductivity of the base material decreases.For example,when the fin is introduced into the lattice structure,the complete melting time is reduced by 24.1% for metal titanium.In summary,this study enables us to obtain a good understanding of the mechanism of the heat transfer and provides necessary experimental data for the structural design of HFS fabricated by AM.

Iron-Catalyzed Reductive C(aryl)—Si Cross-Coupling of Diaryl Ethers with Chlorosilanes

The reductive cross-coupling between C(aryl)—O and Si—Cl bonds is of much importance as a valuable strategy for the construction of C(aryl)—Si bonds but has remained a great challenge.Herein,we report a reductive cross-coupling of diaryl ethers and chlorosilanes via strong electrophilic C(aryl)—O and Si—Cl bonds cleavage by iron catalysis,which constitutes an efficient protocol for the synthesis of a range of functionalized arylsilanes.The combination of low cost FeCl2 as the precatalyst and iPrMgCl as the reductant shows high activity in the successive cleavage of unactivated C(aryl)—O bonds of diaryl ethers and strong electrophilic Si—Cl bonds of chlorosilanes,allowing their cross-coupling in a reductive fashion.The low-valent iron species generated in situ by reduction of FeCl2 with iPrMgCl was proposed,which prefers to initially cleavage the C(aryl)—O bond of diaryl ethers with the chelation help of an o-amide auxiliary.

Al-modified yolk-shell silica particle-supported NiMo catalysts for ultradeep hydrodesulfurization of dibenzothiophene and 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene:Efficient accessibility of active sites and suitable acidity

Yolk-shell SiO2 particles(YP)with center-radial meso-channels were fabricated through a simple and effective method.Al-containing YP-supported NiMo catalysts with different Al amounts(NiMo/AYP-x,x=Si/Al molar proportion)were prepared and dibenzothiophene(DBT)and 4,6-dimethyl-dibenzothiophene(4,6-DMDBT)were employed as the probes to evaluate the hydrodesulfurization(HDS)catalytic performance.The as-prepared AYP-x carriers and corresponding catalysts were characterized by some advanced characterizations to obtain deeper correlations between physicochemical properties and the HDS performance.The average pore sizes of series AYP-x supports are above 6.0 nm,which favors the mass transfer of organic sulfides.The cavity between the yolk and the shell is beneficial for the enrichment of S-containing compounds and the accessibility between reactants and active metals.Aluminum embedded into the silica framework could facilitate the formation of Lewis(L)and Brønsted(B)acid sites and adjust the metal-support interaction(MSI).Among all the as-synthesized catalysts,NiMo/AYP-20 catalyst shows the highest HDS activities.The improved HDS activity of NiMo/AYP-20 catalyst is attributed to the perfect combination of excellent structural properties of the yolk-shell mesoporous silica,enhanced acidity,moderate MSI,and good accessibility/dispersion of active components.
