Novel wood-plastic composite fabricated via modified steel slag: Preparation,mechanical and flammability properties

A novel method was developed to enhance the utilization rate of steel slag(SS). Through treatment of SS with phosphoric acid and aminopropyl triethoxysilane(KH550), we obtained modified SS(MSS), which was used to prepare MSS/wood–plastic composites(MSS/WPCs) by replacing talcum powder(TP). The composites were fabricated through melting blending and hot pressing. Their mechanical and combustion properties, which comprise heat release, smoke release, and thermal stability, were systematically *** can improve the mechanical strength of the composites through grafting reactions between wood powder and thermoplastics. Notably, MSS/WPC#50(16wt% MSS) with an MSS-to-TP mass ratio of 1:1 exhibited optimal comprehensive performance. Compared with those of WPC#0 without MSS, the tensile, flexural, and impact strengths of MSS/WPC#50 were increased by 18.5%, 12.8%, and 18.0%,respectively. Moreover, the MSS/WPC#50 sample achieved the highest limited oxygen index of 22.5%, the highest vertical burning rating at the V-1 level, and the lowest horizontal burning rate at 44.2 mm/min. The formation of a dense and stable char layer led to improved thermal stability and a considerable reduction in heat and smoke releases of MSS/WPC#50. However, the partial replacement of TP with MSS slightly compromised the mechanical and flame-retardant properties, possibly due to the weak grafting caused by SS powder agglomeration. These findings suggest the suitability of MSS/WPCs for high-value-added applications as decorative panels indoors or outdoors.

Phosphotungstic acid immobilized on amino-functionalized TS-1 zeolite as a solid acid catalyst for the synthesis of tributyl citrate

The amino-functionalization of TS-1 zeolite followed by immobilization of phosphotungstic acid (HPW) was presented to prepare a strong solid acid catalyst for the synthesis of bio-based tributyl citrate from the esterification of citric acid and n-butanol.γ-Aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) was first grafted on the TS-1 zeolite via the condensation reactions with surface hydroxyl groups, and subsequently the HPW was immobilized via the reaction between the amino groups and the protons from HPW-forming strong ionic bonding. The Keggin structure of HPW and MFI topology of TS-1 zeolite were well maintained after the modifications. The amino-functionalization generated abundant uniformly distributed active sites on TS-1 for HPW immobilization, which promoted the dispersity, abundance, as well as the stability of the acid sites. The tetrahedrally coordinated framework titanium and non-framework titania behaved as weak Lewis acid sites, and the protons from the immobilized HPW acted as the moderate or strong Brønsted acid sites. An optimized TBC yield of 96.2％ (mol) with a conversion of -COOH of 98.1％ (mol) was achieved at 150 °C for 6 h over the HPW immobilized on amino-functionalized TS-1. The catalyst exhibited good stability after four consecutive reaction runs, where the activity leveled off at still a relatively high level after somewhat deactivation possibly caused by the leaching of a small portion of weakly anchored APTES or HPW.

We investigate the solution self-assembly of a mixture of positively charged homopolymers and AB diblock copolymers, in which the A blocks are negatively charged, and the B blocks are neutral. The electrostatic complexation between oppositely charged polymers drives the formation of many ordered phases. The microstructures and phase diagrams are calculated using self-consistent field theory (SCFT) based on an ionpair model with an equilibrium constant K to characterize the strength of binding between positively and negatively charged monomers. The effects of the charge ratio, representing the ratio of charges from the homopolymer over all charges from polymers in the system, on the ordered structure are systematically studied, both for hydrophobic and hydrophilic A blocks. The charge ratio plays an important role in determining the phase boundaries in the phase diagram of salt concentration versus polymer concentration. We also provide information about the varying tendency of the domain spacing and core size of the spherical phase when the charge ratio is changed, and the results are in good agreement with experiments. These studies provide a deep understanding of the self-assembled microstructures of oppositely charged diblock copolymerhomopolymer systems.

Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)h ave attracted widespread attention due to their large surface area and porous *** designing the nanostructures of MOFs to promote their application in ethanol electrooxidation is still a ***,a novel Cu-NCNs(Cu-nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes)support was synthesized by pyrolysis of melamine(MEL)and Cu-ZIF-8 together,and then,Pd-Au nanoalloys were loaded by sodium borohydride reduction method to prepare PdAu@Cu-NCNs *** generating mesoporous carbon with high specific surface area and favorable electron and mass transport can be used as a potential excellent carrier for PdAu *** addition,the balance of catalyst composition and surface structure was tuned by controlling the content of Pd and ***,the best-performed Pd_(2)Au_(2)@Cu-NCN-1000-2(where 1000 means the carrier calcination temperature,and 2 means the calcination constant temperature time)catalyst exhibits better long-term stability and electrochemical activity for ethanol oxidation in alkaline media(4.80 A·mg^(-1)),which is 5.05 times higher than that of commercial Pd/C(0.95 A·mg^(-1)).Therefore,this work is beneficial to further promoting the application of MOFs in direct ethanol fuel cells(DEFCs)and can be used as inspiration for the design of more efficient catalyst support structures.

Increased Expression of Serum Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1,Chemokine(C-C motif)Ligand 3,and Interleukins in Patients With Vitiligo

Objective:Vitiligo is a chronic,acquired depigmentation of the skin,which can be divided into active and stable *** stable and active stages are not immutable and often *** of internal markers would help to diagnose the active stage of vitiligo,and the purpose of this study was to find potential active markers in the progression of ***:We compared 30 healthy controls to 60 patients with vitiligo(30 with active disease and 30 with stable disease)regarding the expression of serum monocyte chemoattractant protein(MCP)-1,chemokine(C-C motif)ligand(CCL)3,CCL5,CCL21,interleukin(IL)-6,and *** were collected from May 2017 to December *** detection was carried out by enzyme-linked immunosorbent *** difference between groups was compared by Kruskal-Wallis H test and Mann-Whitney U ***:We found that the serum levels of MCP-1,CCL3,IL-6,and IL-17 were significantly higher in patients with vitiligo than in healthy controls(P<0.01)and that IL-17 was higher in patients with active vitiligo than in those with stable vitiligo(P<0.01).After 3months of treatment,the serum IL-17 level of patients with active vitiligo was not significantly different from that before treatment(P=0.526);after 6months of treatment,however,the serum IL-17 level had significantly decreased(P<0.01).Conclusion:These findings suggest that the serum IL-17 level can be used as a marker of vitiligo disease activity giving it certain guiding significance for clinical treatment.
