miniature fluorescence microscopes are a standard tool in systems ***,widefield miniature microscopes capture only 2D information,and modifications that enable 3D capabilities increase the size and weight and have poor resolution outside a narrow depth ***,we achieve the 3D capability by replacing the tube lens of a conventional 2D miniscope with an optimized multifocal phase mask at the objective’s aperture *** the phase mask at the aperture stop significantly reduces the size of the device,and varying the focal lengths enables a uniform resolution across a wide depth *** phase mask encodes the 3D fluorescence intensity into a single 2D measurement,and the 3D volume is recovered by solving a sparsity-constrained inverse *** provide methods for designing and fabricating the phase mask and an efficient forward model that accounts for the fieldvarying aberrations in miniature *** demonstrate a prototype that is 17mm tall and weighs 2.5 grams,achieving 2.76μm lateral,and 15μm axial resolution across most of the 900×700×390μm^(3) volume at 40 volumes per *** performance is validated experimentally on resolution targets,dynamic biological samples,and mouse brain *** with existing miniature single-shot volume-capture implementations,our system is smaller and lighter and achieves a more than 2×better lateral and axial resolution throughout a 10×larger usable depth *** microscope design provides single-shot 3D imaging for applications where a compact platform matters,such as volumetric neural imaging in freely moving animals and 3D motion studies of dynamic samples in incubators and lab-on-a-chip devices.

many previous studies have focused on the foraging behaviors and strategies of the red imported fire ants, Solenopsis invicta Buren on solid food or granular bait; little attention has been paid to how liquid sugar is fed upon. In the present study, behavioral responses ofS. invicta to 25% sucrose water droplets were observed. Five foraging patterns were identified in S. invicta colonies under laboratory conditions：（i） no feeding, no sucrose water feeding was observed; （ii） surround feeding, ants surrounded and fed along the edge of the sucrose droplet; （iii） stacked feeding, ants stacked and fed along the edge of the sucrose droplet; （iv） droplet-break feeding, ants broke the liquid droplet and sucked sucrose water that spread on surface of the substance or soil particles previously transported by ants; and （v） cover feeding, whole surface of the sucrose droplet was covered by layers of feeding ants. This is the first time cover feeding in S. invicta has been reported, which obviously requires more ants compared to the other patterns. In addition, individual ants were tracked in videos under laboratory conditions, and behavioral repertoires that led to stacking, covering and droplet-breaking were identified and described. The field investigation showed that surround feeding was most frequently performed by S. invicta foragers; however, cover feeding was not observed under field conditions during this study. Both laboratory and field studies showed colony-level variations in sugar-water feeding.

The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)global public health emergency,has exposed the fragility of health *** to healthcare became a scarce commodity as healthcare providers and resource-poor populations became victims of the novel corona ***,this study focuses on Africa’s readiness to integrate telemedicine into the weak health systems and its adoption may help alleviate poor healthcare and poverty after *** conducted a narrative review through different search strategies in Scopus on January 20,2021,to identify available literature reporting implementation of various telemedicine modes in Africa from January 1,2011 to December 31,*** summarized 54 studies according to geographies,field,and implementation *** results show a willingness to adopt telemedicine in the resource-poor settings and hard-to-reach populations,which will bring relief to the inadequate healthcare systems and alleviate poverty of those who feel the burden of healthcare cost the *** adequate government financing,telemedicine promises to enhance the treating of communicable and non-communicable diseases as well as support health *** can also alleviate poverty among vulnerable groups and hard-to-reach communities in Africa with adequate government ***,given the lack of funding in Africa,the challenges in implementing telemedicine require global and national strategies before it can yield promising *** is especially true in regards to alleviating the multidimensionality of poverty in post-COVID-19 Africa.

Background:Changes of land cover modify the characteristics of habitat,host-vector interaction and consequently infection rates of disease causing *** this paper,we report variations in tsetse distribution patterns,abundance and infection rates in relation to habitat types and age in the maasai Steppe of northern *** Africa,Tsetse-transmitted trypanosomiasis negatively impacted human life where about 40 million people are at risk of contracting the disease with dramatic socio-economical consequences,for instance,loss of livestock,animal productivity,and ***:We trapped tsetse flies in dry and wet seasons between October 2014 and may 2015 in selected habitats across four villages:Emboreet,Loiborsireet,Kimotorok and Oltukai adjacent to protected *** collected include number and species of tsetse flies caught in baited traps,PCR identification of trypanosome species and extraction of monitored Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI)data from moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer(mODIS).Results:Our findings demonstrate the variation of tsetse fly species abundance and infection rates among habitats in surveyed villages in relation to NDVI and host *** have shown higher tsetse fly abundance in Acacia-swampy ecotone and riverine habitats for Emboreet and other villages,*** abundance was inconsistent among habitats in different *** was highly infested with Glossina swynnertoni(68%)in ecotone and swampy habitats followed by ***(28%)and ***(4%)in riverine *** the remaining villages,the dominant tsetse fly species by 95%was *** in all *** vivax was the most prevalent species in all infected flies(95%)with few observations of co-infections(with *** or ***).Conclusions:The findings of this study provide a framework to mapping hotspots of tsetse infestation and trypanosomiasis infection and enhance the communities to plan for effect

激光定向能量沉积成形钛合金具有高效快速、材料利用率高等优势,但其较大的冷却速率及温度梯度等固有特性使得成形的钛合金容易出现各向异性,因此有必要对激光定向能量沉积钛合金不同平面及不同方向上的组织与性能进行研究。选定Ti-6Al合金作为研究对象,采用光学显微镜、X射线衍射仪、扫描电镜和电子背散射衍射对激光定向能量沉积Ti-6Al合金物相、微观组织形貌和晶粒特征进行研究。结果表明,合金中只存在单一的α相,该物相为HCP结构;Ti-6Al合金不同成形高度表现出不同的微观组织特征,即沿着构建方向,底部为细小的等轴晶,中间为柱状晶,顶部为等轴晶/近等轴晶。在XOY面的平均晶粒尺寸最小,为22.2519μm;YOZ面存在最大的晶粒尺寸,为38.9408μm。在3个不同平面中,XOY面的小角度晶界体积分数最高,为19.5%;YOZ面小角度晶界体积分数最低,为12.2%。沿Z方向上,即与建造方向平行时抗拉强度最高,为669.94 mPa,相应的伸长率为13.9%;沿X方向上抗拉强度为560.55 mPa,其相应的伸长率最低,为11.4%。

Blood Volume Status in Patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: Relation to Complaints

Four studies have compared a possible decrease in circulating blood volume in myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (mE/CFS) patients when compared to a healthy population. A more recent study has proven a correlation between RBC volume and OI in chronic OI patients without being diagnosed mE/CFS. The aim of the present study was to relate measured blood, RBC and plasma volumes (absolute and percent normalized) with the orthostatic intolerance complaints in mE/CFS patients. In the included 11 female mE/CFS patients, percentage decrease in normalized blood, RBC and plasma volume was similar for all three components: 83% ±12%, 83% ±12% and 83% ±11%, respectively. In patients with a clinical suspicion of OI (n = 7) all 3 volume components were significantly lower compared to patients without clinical suspicion of OI (n = 4). The difference percentage to normalized Blood volume was 77(7) vs 94(10) (p-value malized RBC volume was 76(7) vs 96(10) (p-value malized plasma volume was 77(7) vs 93(10) (p-value ma volumes were plotted against RBC volumes: the relation found was RBC volume = 0.99* Plasma volume + 1.55;p me and its components: RBC and plasma volume may be reduced in mE/CFS patients, especially in the presence of a clinical suspicion of OI.
