On the (m,r,s)-Halves of a Riordan Array and Applications

Given a Riordan array, its vertical half and horizontal half are studied separately before. In the present paper, we introduce the (m,r,s)-halves of a Riordan array. This allows us to discuss the vertical half and horizontal half in a uniform context. As applications, we find several new identities involving Fibonacci, Pell and Jacobsthal sequences by applying the (m,r,s)-halves of Pascal and Delannoy matrices.

Autophagy is an evolutionarily conserved process involved in the degradation of long-lived proteins and excessive or dysfunctional organelles. As a pivotal cellular response, autophagy has been extensively studied and is known to be involved in various diseases. Ferroptosis is a recently discovered form of regulated cell death characterized by iron overload, leading to the accumulation of lethal levels of lipid hydroperoxides. Recently, an increasing number of studies have revealed a link between autophagy and ferroptosis. Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MIRI) is an urgent dilemma after myocardial infarction recanalization, which is regulated by several cell death pathways, including autophagy and ferroptosis. However, the potential relationship between autophagy and ferroptosis in MIRI remains unexplored. In this study, we briefly review the mechanisms of autophagy and ferroptosis, including their roles in MIRI. Moreover, we provide an overview of the potential crosstalk in MIRI. Clarifying the relationship between different cell death pathways may provide new ideas for the treatment of MIRI in the future.

A Wire-Driven Series Elastic Mechanism Based on Ultrasonic Motor for Walking Assistive System

In order to improve the elderly people's quality of life,supporting their walking behaviors is a promising technology.Therefore,based on one ultrasonic motor,a wire-driven series elastic mechanism for walking assistive system is proposed and investigated in this research.In contrast to tradition,it innovatively utilizes an ultrasonic motor and a wire-driven series elastic mechanism to achieve superior system performances in aspects of simple structure,high torque/weight ratio,quiet operation,quick response,favorable electromagnetic compatibility,strong shock resistance,better safety,and accurately stable force control.The proposed device is mainly composed of an ultrasonic motor,a linear spring,a steel wire,four pulleys and one rotating part.To overcome the ultrasonic motor's insufficient output torque,a steel wire and pulleys are smartly combined to directly magnify the torque instead of using a conventional gear reducer.Among the pulleys,there is one tailored pulley playing an important role to keep the reduction ratio as 4.5 constantly.Meanwhile,the prototype is manufactured and its actual performance is verified by experimental results.In a one-second operating cycle,it only takes 86 ms for this mechanism to output an assistive torque of 1.6 N·m.At this torque,the ultrasonic motor's speed is around 4.1 rad/s.Moreover,experiments with different operation periods have been conducted for different application scenarios.This study provides a useful idea for the application of ultrasonic motor in walking assistance system.

Two-dimensional(2D)perovskites solar cells(PSCs)have attracted considerable attention owing to their excellent stability against humidity;however,some imperfectness of 2D perovskites,such as poor crystallinity,disordered orientation,and inferior charge transport still limit the power conversion efficiency(PCE)of 2D PSCs.In this work,2D Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets with high electrical conductivity and mobility were employed as a nanosized additive to prepare 2D Ruddlesden–Popper perovskite films.The PCE of solar cells was increased from 13.69(without additive)to 15.71%after incorporating the Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) nanosheets with an optimized concentration.This improved performance is attributed to the enhanced crystallinity,orientation,and passivated trap states in the 3D phase that result in accelerated charge transfer process in vertical direction.More importantly,the unencapsulated cells exhibited excellent stability under ambient conditions with 55±5%relative humidity.

Bioremediation became a promising technology to resolve arsenic(As)contamination in aquatic environment.Since monoculture such as microalgae or bacteria was sensitive to environmental disturbance and vulnerable to contamination,green microalgae Chlorella vulgaris and arsenite(As(Ⅲ))-oxidizing bacteria Pseudomonas sp.SMS11 were co-cultured to construct algal-bacterial consortia in the current study.The effects of algae-bacteria(A:B)ratio and exposure As(Ⅲ)concentration on algal growth,As speciation and metabolomic profile were investigated.Algal growth arrested when treated with 100 mg/L As(Ⅲ)without the co-cultured bacteria.By contrast,co-cultured with strain SMS11 significantly enhanced As tolerance in C.vulgaris especially with A:B ratio of 1:10.All the As(Ⅲ)in culture media of the consortia were oxidized into As(Ⅴ)on day 7.Methylation of As was observed on day 14.Over 1% and 0.5% of total As were converted into dimethylarsinic acid(DMA)after 21days cultivation when the initial concentrations of As(Ⅲ)were 1 and 10 mg/L,respectively.Metabolomic analysis was further performed to reveal the response of consortia metabolites to external As(Ⅲ).The enriched metabolomic pathways were associated with carbohydrate,amino acid and energy metabolisms.Tricarboxylic acid cycle and glyoxylate and dicarboxylate metabolism were upregulated under As stress due to their biological functions on alleviating oxidative stress and protecting cells.Both carbohydrate and amino acid metabolisms provided precursors and potential substrates for energy production and cell protection under abiotic stress.Alterations of the pathways relevant to carbohydrate or amino acid metabolism were triggered by energy requirement.

The advancement of artificial intelligence(AI)has truly stimulated the development and deployment of autonomous vehicles(AVs)in the transportation industry.Fueled by big data from various sensing devices and advanced computing resources,AI has become an essential component of AVs for perceiving the surrounding environment and making appropriate decision in motion.To achieve goal of full automation(i.e.,self-driving),it is important to know how AI works in AV systems.Existing research have made great efforts in investigating different aspects of applying AI in AV development.However,few studies have offered the research community a thorough examination of current practices in implementing AI in AVs.Thus,this paper aims to shorten the gap by providing a comprehensive survey of key studies in this research avenue.Specifically,it intends to analyze their use of AIs in supporting the primary applications in AVs:1)perception;2)localization and mapping;and 3)decision making.It investigates the current practices to understand how AI can be used and what are the challenges and issues associated with their implementation.Based on the exploration of current practices and technology advances,this paper further provides insights into potential opportunities regarding the use of AI in conjunction with other emerging technologies:1)high definition maps,big data,and high performance computing;2)augmented reality(AR)/virtual reality(VR)enhanced simulation platform;and 3)5G communication for connected AVs.This paper is expected to offer a quick reference for researchers interested in understanding the use of AI in AV research.

In this paper, a new corporate bond pricing model with credit migration risk is proposed. This model sets different thresholds for the rising or falling of credit ratings, which forms a buffer zone that could reduce the frequency of credit rating changes. Mathematically, this model is a system of partial differential equations with overlapping area. The existence, uniqueness, regularity and asymptotic behavior of the solution are obtained. Furthermore, a numerical scheme and its stability, convergence and accuracy are discussed in detail. Calibration and analysis of the parameters are also suggested.

Even though retinal images of objects change their locations following each eye movement,we perceive a stable and continuous world.One possible mechanism by which the brain achieves such visual stability is to construct a craniotopic coordinate by integrating retinal and extraretinal information.There have been several proposals on how this may be done,including eye-position modulation(gain fields)of retinotopic receptive fields(RFs)and craniotopic RFs.In the present study,we investigated coordinate systems used by RFs in the lateral intraparietal(LIP)cortex and frontal eye fields(FEF)and compared the two areas.We mapped the two-dimensional RFs of neurons in detail under two eye fixations and analyzed how the RF of a given neuron changes with eye position to determine its coordinate representation.The same recording and analysis procedures were applied to the two brain areas.We found that,in both areas,RFs were distributed from retinotopic to craniotopic representations.There was no significant difference between the distributions in the LIP and FEF.Only a small fraction of neurons was fully craniotopic,whereas most neurons were between the retinotopic and craniotopic representations.The distributions were strongly biased toward the retinotopic side but with significant craniotopic shifts.These results suggest that there is only weak evidence for craniotopic RFs in the LIP and FEF,and that transformation from retinotopic to craniotopic coordinates in these areas must rely on other factors such as gain fields.
