Photosynthetic co-culture system of algae and human umbilical vein endothelial cells:The effect on alleviating hypoxia and hypoxia/reoxygenation injury

It is a developed photosynthetic co-culture system to alleviate the hypoxia and hypoxia/reoxygenation(H/R)-injured human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs).The algae,Chlorella vulgaris,were encapsulated to slow their growth while not affecting the photosynthetic oxygen-producing capacity by Layer-by-layer(LbL)using gelatin and sodium alginate as the positive and negative charges materials,***,the photosynthetic co-culture system of HUVECs and self-oxygenating alginate hydrogel(Algae-gel)was constructed in which the optimal ratios between algae and HUVECs were 5:1 and 20:1 for a 2D or 3D co-cultured manner,*** indicated that the 3D cocultured manner of HUVECs needed more O_(2) by the production of algae than it did in a 2D co-cultured *** co-cultured Algae-gel could alleviate hypoxia and the oxidative stress injury of hypoxia and hypoxia/reoxygenation(H/R)-treated HUVECs in the proliferation,intracellular ROS and cellular migratory *** addition,the Algaegel could downregulate the expression of hypoxia-inducible factors 1α(HIF-1α)and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)of hypoxia and H/R-injured HUVECs due to the improvement of hypoxia and H/R *** photosynthetic co-culture system could offer a promising approach for repairing hypoxia and H/R-injured cells or tissue by providing safe and stable O_(2).

Objective： To investigate whether three strains of probiotics, L. acidophilus, L. rhamnosus, and L. sporogenes, had significant inhibitive effects on Helicobacter pylori（H. pylori）. Methods： This is a 4-week, randomly assigned, parallel-group, doubled-blind, and placebo-controlled study. Fifty patients with a positive H. pylori infection urea breath test（△UBT） result 〉 10% and without ulcer symptoms were randomized into a treatment group and a placebo group by a computer generated allocation sheet with 1：1. These subjects took one capsule of probiotics or placebo twice daily. The primary measurement was the change in △UBT values. Results： The △UBT values during the 4-week treatment period and the 2-week follow-up period were not significantly different between the treatment group and the placebo group, indicating that the inhibitive effects on H. pylori were comparable between both groups. The monocyte count（%） was 5.77±1.11 in the treatment group versus 5.09±1.12 in the placebo group（P=0.044）, and the basophile count was 0.55±0.32 in the treatment group versus 0.36±0.23 in the placebo group（P=0.024） at week 2 of the treatment period, both of which reache. statistical significance. The monocyte count was 5.75±1.26 in the treatment group and 4.72±0.99 in the placebo group at the end of the follow-up period（P=0.003）. Conclusions： There was no significant inhibitive effects of the three probiotic strains（L. acidophilus, L. rhamnosus, and L. sporogenes） on H. pylori. Probiotics can not play the same role as antibiotics in the eradication of H. pylori, the role of probiotics is likely to be important as adjuvant to the triple or quadruple therapy for H. pylori, especially in resistance cases.

Effects of ethanol on antioxidant capacity in isolated rat hepatocytes

AIM： To investigate dose-response and time-course of the effects of ethanol on the cell viability and antioxidant capacity in isolated rat hepatocytes. METHODS： Hepatocytes were isolated from male adult Wistar rats and seeded into 100-mm dishes. Hepatocytes were treated with ethanol at concentrations between 0 （C）, 10 （E10）, 50 （E50）, and 100 （E100） mmol/L （dose response） for 12, 24, and 36 h （time course）. Then, lactate dehydrogenase （LDH） leakage, malondialdehyde （IDA） concentration, glutathione （GSH） level, and activities of glutathione peroxidase （GPX）, glutathione reductase （GRD）, superoxide dismutase （SOD）, and catalase （CAT） were measured. RESULTS： Our data revealed that LDH leakage was significantly increased by about 30% in group E100 over those in groups C and E10 at 24 and 36 h, The HDA concentration in groups C, E10 and E50 were significantly lower than that in group E100 at 36 h. Furthermore, the concentration of IDA in group E100 at 36 h was significantly higher by 4.5- and 1.7-fold, respectively, than that at 12 and 24 h. On the other hand, the GSH level in group E100 at 24 and 36 h was significantly decreased, by 32% and 28%, respectively, compared to that at 12 h. The activities of GRD and CAT in group E100 at 36 h were significantly less than those in groups C and E10. However, The GPX and SOD activities showed no significant change in each group. CONCLUSION： These results suggest that longtime incubation with higher concentration of ethanol （100 mmol/L） decreased the cell viability by means of reducing GRD and CAT activities and increasing lipid peroxidation.

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding inhigh-frequency range, especially the rapidly growing terahertz(THz) frequency range, attracts increasing attention due tothe potential application of terahertz in 6G wirelesscommunication, and security inspection. However, traditionalconductive EMI films typically achieve high shieldingeffectiveness through strong reflection, which may causesecondary pollution to other devices. Here, a gradientstructure strategy was proposed to constructTi_(3)C_(2)Tx/hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) film, in whichthe content of Ti_(3)C_(2)Tx gradually increases along the thicknessdirection, resulting in different conductivity of the two surfaces(surface-M and surface-H) for the film. The obtained gradientfilmexhibits an EMI shielding efficiency of over 48.5 dB in theTHz range (0.2-1.6 THz) at a thickness of 40 μm. Especially,as the THz waves incident from the surface-H to the film, the absorption effectiveness reache. 48.2 dB (average absorbedpower loss up to 91.4%), and the reflection effectiveness is only 0.3 dB. In additions, the gradient-film also demonstrates ahigh absorption rate of 95.5% in the infrared band (2.5-16.7 μm). Moreover, the gradient-film exhibits an excellent tensilestress and Young’s modulus value of 173.1 MPa and 2.8 GPa, respectively. Therefore, the gradient-film proposed in thiswork, with excellent electromagnetic absorption in both THz and infrared band, provides a promising candidate for the nextgenerationEMI shielding applications.

Bioche.ical recurrence of pathological T2+localized prostate cancer after robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy:A 10-year surveillance

Salt stress limits plant growth and *** this study,changes in membrane lipids were investigated in leaves of sorghum seedlings subjected to salt stress(150 mmol L^(-1)NaCl).Galactolipids(DGDG and MGDG)accounted for more than 65%of the total glycerolipids in sorghum *** predominance of C36 molecular species in MGDG suggested that sorghum is an 18:3 *** Na Cl treatment,the content of major phospholipids(PC and PE)increased,accompanied by the activation of their metabolism pathways at the transcriptional *** contrast,the proportion of MGDG and PG dropped drastically,leading to a decreased ratio of plastidic to non-plastidic *** adjustment of glycerolipid pathway between the cytosolic and plastidic compartments was triggered by salt stress,as reflected by the increased conversion of PC to PA,providing precursors for galactolipid *** elevated DGDG resulted in increased DGDG/MGDG and bilayer/non-bilayer lipid *** double-bond index of PC,PE,and DGDG increased markedly,evidently owing to the increased expression of FAD3 and *** findings will be helpful for understanding dynamic membrane lipid changes and adaptive lipid remodeling in sorghum response to salt stress.
