Biodiesel bioremediation in soils may occur by natural attenuation or by engineered techniques, such as biostimulation and bioaugmentation. The present study evaluated the degradation of biodiesel in two soils with different particle size characteristics by the bioremediation processes of natural attenuation and biostimulation. The experiment was carried out ex situ, with the factors temperature, moisture content, and pH being controlled for the experimental period of 110 days. The study aimed at evaluating the biodegradation of a clayey soil （A） and a sandy soil （B）, both contaminated with pure biodiesel, by using the analytical methods of respirometry and gas chromatography. Biostimulation treatments using nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium solutions （NPK） promoted higher microbiological activity in both soils. At the end of the experiment, it was observed that biostimulation was more efficient when compared to natural attenuation, showing higher biodiesel degradation for both soils A （59.76%） and B （90.41%）.

Agriculture is amongst the major occupations in Cameroon where over 70% of citizens are involved and it contributes enormously to the economy of the country. Wheat is one of the most consumed cereals in Cameroon with very high importation rate. However, the adoption of wheat production in the cropping system could have the potential to pull farmers out of poverty. It is essential in human foods and animal feeds. This study aims to investigate on the adaptability of wheat varieties based on growth traits and yield as well as to estimate the gluten content in each of the tested variety in the North-West region. Eight wheat varieties (five from CIMMYT, two from IrAD and one local variety) were evaluated in a factorial design with two types of fertilization (organic and inorganic), in two site (Santa and UBa farm) and five environments. Agro-morphological data were collected and were subjected to the analysis of variance using r software. The gluten content related to the baking quality of wheat flour was estimated per tested variety. Highly significant differences were observed among varieties, sites, environment and fertilization for all parameters estimated. The general mean of all the traits evaluated was significantly higher when using organic fertilizer than inorganic, meaning that the application of organic fertilizer provides better performance of wheat growth. The elevated number of tillers found in Santa could inform on the high level of soil fertility for wheat production in that area. Environment 1 was found to be the best follow by environment 3 and 5. IrAD I gave the highest yield followed by Alexander Wonder and IrAD II. 11SATYND and 29SAWYT were promising introduced varieties in term of grain weight when using organic fertilization. Wet and dry gluten yield varied from 3.8 (ALEXANDEr Wonder) to 5.5 (IrAD I) and from 3.7 (IrAD II) to 7.9 (IrAD I) respectively. rong>Introduction:rong> Cryofrequency is a novel therapy which was developed with the combination of cold (cryotherapy) and heat (radiofrequency) application, causing a thermal shock effect on skin tissue. The thermal shock is believed to alter local metabolism. rong>Objective:rong> To investigate the effect of cryofrequency on the skin tissue of a mini pig in an in vitro and in vivo experimental model. rong>Methodology:rong> A small swine of the S. domesticus species, a male mini-pig (30 kg weight) was elected for the in vivo procedure subject. The in vitro step was performed on the extracted abdominal part of another subject of the same species and breed. Then, after the application of cryofrequency in the monopolar and bipolar form in vivo, a histological analysis was performed. rong>results: rong>A higher temperature variation was observed comparing the pilot study in vitro with respect to the experimental one in vivo. Microscopically, an increase of collagen fibers and blood supply and decreased adipose tissue was observed after cryofrequency application. rong>Conclusion:rong> With the bipolar cryofrequency, no reduction of adipose tissue was observed, but regarding the connective tissue, extensive areas of collagen deposition were observed, as well as a great amount of new-formed collagen fibers.

目的零事件研究作为重要的证据来源,经常出现在不良事件的系统评价中。关于零事件研究的处理尚存在较大争议,本研究旨在探索在不良事件系统评价的Meta分析中如何使用零事件研究证据。方法对在两个时期(2015年1月1日至2020年1月1日;2008年1月1日至2011年4月25日)发表的系统评价进行了实证调查。通过数据库检索以不良事件为唯一结局指标的、包含至少一项Meta分析的系统评价。不良事件定义为卫生保健实践过程中患者或受试者发生的任何不良医疗事件。对符合纳入标准的系统评价,调查零事件研究出现频率以及这些系统评价中Meta分析如何处理零事件研究。结果共640篇系统评价符合纳入标准。其中406篇(63.45%)系统评价纳入零事件研究,涉及单臂零事件研究的系统评价为389篇(95.11%),涉及双臂零事件研究的系统评价为223篇(54.93%)。这些系统评价多数(98.71%)将单臂零事件研究的证据使用Meta分析进行了合并。然而对于双臂零事件研究,多数(76.23%)在Meta分析中被直接剔除,其中多数(87.06%)未讨论排除此类研究对结果的潜在影响。与过去(2008~2011年)相比,当前(2015~2020年)发表的系统评价更倾向于将零事件研究证据在Meta分析中进行合并,但两组差异并无统计学意义[PD=–0.09,95%CI(–0.21,0.03),P=0.12]。结论系统评价作者通常将双臂零事件研究视为"无信息"载体,并在Meta分析中直接将其剔除。然而,Meta分析中的零事件研究是否存在信息,在很大程度上取决于其所使用的合并方法和统计学假设,因此在将来的Meta分析中应考虑使用不同的方法进行敏感性分析。

Background: Gastric ulcer is one of the most common gastrointestinal diseases with a worldwide prevalence of about 40% in the developed countries and 80% in Africa. Acid inhibitors, anticholinergics, histamine H2-antagonists and antibiotics are commonly used to treat gastric ulcer. However, the accumulating evidence for.r.sistance to antibiotics and the side effects of antibiotics and acid inhibitors, anticholinergics and histamine H2-antagonists. Therefore, there is an urgent need for approaches to treat and prevent gastric ulcer. One alternative strategy is the use of probiotic lactic acid bacteria. Aim of the study: This study aimed to isolate and characterised probiotic lactic acid bacteria from palm wine and fermented milk, and to evaluate their antiulcerogenic potentials on ethanol-induced gastric ulcer in mice. Methods: Probiotic lactic acid bacteria were isolated from the fermented milk and palm wine using pour plate technique on MrS agar and identified using the 16S r.r.A gene sequencing. For functional properties and selection, acid and bile salt tolerance were evaluated based on viable colony count on MrS agar. Two probiotic lactic acid bacteria were selected for in vivo studies. Fifty-four healthy young adult Balb/c mice were randomly divided into 9 groups of 6 mice each. Gastric ulcer was induced in mice using one oral dose of absolute ethanol (10 mL/kg body weight). The probiotic lactic acid bacteria (F1 and F2) at different doses (MF3 = 9 × 108 CFU/mL, MF6 = 1.8 × 109 CFU/mL and MF9 = 2.7 × 109 CFU/mL) and omeprazole (20 mg/kg) (a reference drug) were orally administrated daily for 14 days before ulcer induction. These mice were sacrificed 1hour after induction and the stomach contents were collected for volume and pH determination. The degree of cortical enzyme inhibition correl ates with changes in executive and attentional functions.

We recently reported findings that loss of cortical acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity is greater in parkinsonian dementia than in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). In this study we determined cognitive correlates of in vivo cortical AChE activity in patients with parkinsonian dementia (PDem, n = 11), Parkinson’s disease without dementia (PD, n=13), and in normal controls (NC, n = 14) using N-11C methyl-piperidin-4-yl propionate ( 11C -PMP) AChE positron emission tomography (PET). Cortical AChE activity was significantly reduced in the PDem (-20.9%)and PD (-12.7%) subjects (P red with the control subjects. Analysis of the cognitive data within the patient groups demonstrated that scores on the WAIS-III Digit Span, a test of working memory and attention, had most robust correlation with cortical AChE activity (r = 0.61, p re were also significant correlations between cortical AChE activity and other tests of attentional and executive functions, such as the Trail Making and Stroop Color Word tests. There was no significant correlation between cortical AChE activi ty and duration of motor disease (r = -0.01, ns) or severity of parkinsonian mo tor symptoms (r = 0.14, ns). We conclude that cortical cholinergic denervation in PD and parkinsonian dementia is associated with decreased performance on tests of attentional and executive functioning.
