The present study was conducted to investigate the ability of Saccharomyces cerevisiae RC016(Sc)-based feed additive to reduce liver toxicity,residual aflatoxin B1(AFB1)levels and influence intestinal structure in broiler chickens fed chronic aflatoxin B1-contaminated diets.A total of 100 one-day-old male commercial line(Ross)broiler chickens were divided into 4 treatments,with 5 pens per treatment and 5 broiler chickens per *** were randomly assigned to 4 treatments,which were namely treatment 1(T1),control diet(CD);T2,CD+Sc at 1 g/kg;T3,CD+AFB1 at 100μg/kg;T4,CD+Sc at 1 g/kg+AFB1 at100μg/*** liver histopathology of broiler chickens fed diets with AFB1 showed diffused microvacuolar fatty *** addition of Sc showed normal hepatocytes similar to the *** small intestine villi from AFB1 group showed atrophy,hyperplasia of goblet cells,prominent inflammatory infiltrate and *** contrast,the small intestine villi from birds that received the yeast plus AFB1 showed an absence of inflammatory infiltrate,and atrophy;moreover,a lower number of goblet cells compared to the groups with AFB1 was *** morphometric intestine studies showed that a significant decrease(P0.05),there was a tendency to improve these *** residual levels of AFB1 in livers were significantly reduced(P<0.05)in the presence of the *** present work demonstrated that the addition of Sc alone or in combination with AFB1 in the broiler chicken diets had a beneficial effect in counteracting the toxic effects of AFB1 in livers besides improving the histomorphometric parameters and modulating the toxic effect of AFB1 in the intestine.

Effect of a Commercial Extract of Green Tea and a Pure Catechin on Two Veillonella strains

The catechin Epigallocatechin-3-O-Gallate (EGCG) which is found in of Green Tea extracts (GTE), displays a variety of microbicidal properties. It is largely believed that EGCG inhibits the growth of cariogenic and periodontopathic bacteria. Objective: In this paper we compared the inhibitory activity of EGCG and a commercial GTE on the growth of Veillonella parvula. Chlorhexidine was used as positive control. Methodology: V. parvula ATCC 10790 and a clinical isolate obtained from a periodontal disease patient were cultured in the presence of EGCG or a commercial GTE, and the measurements of bacterial growth inhibition were compared to the values obtained with 0.12 and 0.2% chlorhexidine. Results: Chlorhexidine inhibited bacterial growth, however in contrast to a previous report, neither EGCG nor the GTE showed any effect on bacterial growth. Conclusions: The data show and confirm that chlorhexidine is a growth inhibitor of V. parvula while EGCG and GTE do not display such effect.

Glutathione precursors shield the brain from trauma

In the United States, approximately one-third of all injury-related deaths are due to traumatic brain injury (TBI). Anyone is at risk for TBI;however, the risk is higher for athletes in contact sports, military personnel, children, and the elderly. TBI is characterized by a mild, moderate, or severe mechanical force to the head which can be further classified as blast, blunt, or ballistic. The sheer mechanical force of the impact to the head results in the primary injury including diffuse axonal injury, internal bleeding, swelling, and neuronal cell death. Secondary injury occurs over time, often weeks to months post-TBI, and is characterized by neuroinflammation, blood-brain-barrier disruption, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, neuronal apoptosis, and other deleterious effects in the brain (Khatri et al., 2018). Recent research indicates that secondary injury from TBI may be considered a risk factor for neurodegenerative diseases occurring later in life, such as Alzheimer’s disease and chronic traumatic encephalopathy. A key molecular mechanism that contributes to secondary injury after TBI is free radical damage which is induced by the aberrant production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS).

Sliding Mode and PI Controllers for Uncertain Flexible Joint Manipulator

This paper is dealing with the problem of tracking control for uncertain flexible joint manipulator robots driven by brushless direct current motor(BDCM). Flexibility of joint in the manipulator constitutes one of the most important sources of uncertainties. In order to achieve high performance, all parts of the manipulator including actuator have been modeled. To cancel the tracking error, a hysteresis current controller and speed controllers have been developed. To evaluate the effectiveness of speed controllers, a comparative study between proportional integral(PI) and sliding mode controllers has been performed. Finally, simulation results carried out in the Matlab simulink environment demonstrate the high precision of sliding mode controller compared with PI controller in the presence of uncertainties of joint flexibility.

First-principles search of hot superconductivity in La-X-H ternary hydrides

Motivated by the recent claim of hot superconductivity with critical temperatures up to 550 K in La + x hydrides,we investigate the high-pressure phase diagram of compounds that may have formed in the experiment,using first-principles calculations for evolutionary crystal structure prediction and *** from the hypothesis that the observed T_(c) may be realized by successive heating upon a pre-formed LaH_(10) phase,we examine plausible ternaries of lanthanum,hydrogen and other elements present in the diamond anvil cell: boron,nitrogen,carbon,platinum,gallium,*** find that only boron and,to a lesser extent,gallium form metastable superhydride-like structures that can host high-T_(c) superconductivity,but the predicted T_(c)’s are incompatible with the experimental *** results indicate that,while the claims of hot superconductivity should be reconsidered,it is very likely that unknown H-rich ternary or multinary phases containing lanthanum,hydrogen,and possibly boron or gallium may have formed under the reported experimental conditions,and that these may exhibit superconducting properties comparable,or even superior,to those of currently known hydrides.

To the Editor,Sarcoidosis is a disease known for over a century and remains enigmatic in etiology and pathophysiology.1 While the pulmonary manifestation prevails in more than 90%of cases,sarcoidosis can affect any ***,it targets the eyes,skin,lymph nodes,and,in rare instances,the liver and spleen.2 The development of the disease is significantly influenced by genetic and environmental factors,as well as gene variations on chromosome ***,first-degree relatives of patients have a heightened risk factor of *** adverse prognostic factors involve being of Black race,female gender,and having a lower *** increased incidence of sarcoidosis among firefighters who responded to the 9/11 disaster highlighted environmental triggers,including agricultural employment,metalworking,firefighting,exposure to inorganic and silica dust,and handling building supplies.1 Clinical symptoms can vary widely depending on the affected *** often relies on characteristic chest radiography findings,but approximately 10%of patients show noncaseating granulomas on biopsy without pulmonary abnormalities.2 Herein,we present a unique case of multiorgan sarcoidosis,where the sole manifestations were severe thrombocytopenia,weight loss,and a history of cerebral vascular events.

In-silico synthesis of lowest-pressure high-T_(c) ternary superhydrides

We report the theoretical prediction of two high-performing hydride superconductors BaSiH_(8)and SrSiH_(8).They are thermodynamically stable above pressures of 130 and 174 GPa,respectively,and metastable below *** anharmonic phonon calculations,we determine the minimum pressures of dynamical stability to be around 3 GPa for BaSiH8 and 27 GPa for SrSiH_(8),and using the fully anisotropic Migdal-Eliashberg theory,we predict Tc’s around 71 and 126 K,*** also introduce a method to estimate the lowest pressure of synthesis,based on the calculation of the enthalpy barriers protecting the BaSiH_(8)Fm3¯m structure from decomposition at various *** kinetic pressure threshold is sensibly higher than the one based on dynamic stability,but gives a much more rigorous limit for synthesizability.

Evolving Decision Rules to Predict Investment Opportunities

This paper is motivated by the interest in finding significant movements in financial stock prices. However, when the number of profitable opportunities is scarce, the prediction of these cases is difficult. In a previous work, we have introduced evolving decision rules （EDR） to detect financial opportunities. The objective of EDR is to classify the minority class （positive eases） in imbalaneed environments. EDR provides a range of classifications to find the best balance between not making mistakes and not missing opportunities. The goals of this paper are： 1） to show that EDR produces a range of solutions to suit the investor＇s preferences and 2） to analyze the factors that benefit the performance of EDR. A series of experiments was performed. EDR was tested using a data set from the London Financial Market. To analyze the EDR behaviour, another experiment was carried out using three artificial data sets, whose solutions have different levels of complexity. Finally, an illustrative example was provided to show how a bigger collection of rules is able to classify more positive eases in imbalanced data sets. Experimental results show that： 1） EDR offers a range of solutions to fit the risk guidelines of different types of investors, and 2） a bigger collection of rules is able to classify more positive eases in imbalanced environments.

Synthesis, Structural Study and Phase Transitions Characterization by Thermal Analysis and Vibrational Spectroscopy of an Ammonium Rubidium Arsenate Tellurate

The Rb2.42（NH4）0.58（HAsO4）（H2AsO4）. Te（OH）6 crystals（denoted by RbNAsTe） crystallize in the monoc-linic system, space group P21/n with the following parameters： a=1.3059（5） nm, b=0.6755（3） nm, c=1.6675（6） rim,β=94.126（4）°, Z=4 and V=1.46733（10） nm^3. Thermal analyses（DSC, DTA and TG） confirm the presence of the phasetransition and the temperatttre of the decomposition. The vibrational spectroscopy study at room temperature showthe presence and the independence of anionic groups, cationic groups, and give more importance to the hydrogenbonds. Raman spectra were recorded in the temperature range of 298--503 K. The temperature dependence of theRaman line shift, intensity reduction and the half width detects the phase transitions and confirms their nature. So, thephase transition at 453 K corresponds to the superprotonic-ionic conduction phase transition, and those at 483 and491 K correspond to the decomposition of our material.
