In the present work, we have measured the radon gas concentrations in tap water samples are taken directly from drinking tap water in sites houses being carried in Thi-Qar governorate by using nuclear track detector (CR-39). The results of measurements have shown that the highest average radon concentration in water samples is found in AL-Refai region which is equal to (0.223 ± 0.03 Bq/L), while the lowest average radon gas concentration is found in AL-Fajr region which is equal to (0.108 ± 0.01 Bq/L), with an average value of (0.175 ± 0.03 Bq/L). The highest value of annual effective dose (AED) in tap water samples is found in AL-Refai region, which is equal to (0.814 μSv/y), while the lowest value of (AED) is found in AL-Fajr region which is equal to (0.394 μSv/y), with an average value of (0.640 ± 0.1 μSv/y). The present results have shown that radon gas concentrations in tap water samples are less than the recommended international value (11.1 Bq/L). There for tap water in all the studied sites in Thi-Qar governorate is safe as for as radon concentration being concerned.

Increasing demand for better throughput and performance has motivated designers to come up with more sophisticated processors with innovative designs. Such designs for multicore architectures offer large amount of parallelism which is often underutilized and thus becomes overhead and liability. Due to these advancements, there has been a exponential increase in power consumption and heat dissipation of computing devices. Under these circumstances, an ideal system would be a reconfigurable system that can switch off all underutilized resources and work with only required ones. There is a need of reconfigurable computing devices and processors that are smart enough to configure themselves dynamically on runtime to find balance between throughput and power-consumption. This paper proposes a novel fuzzy logic based Dynamic voltage and frequency scaling(DVFS)and power-gating enabled controller which is capable of reducing power-consumption without affecting throughput and overall performance of the system. The design is implemented on Intel processor using Ubuntu as an operating system. Implementation results show that proposed Fuzzy logic controller(FLC) reduces power-consumption upto 40% by reconfiguring the processor dynamically without compromising the throughput.

Consensus control of multi-agent systems is an innovative paradigm for the development of intelligent distributed *** has fascinated numerous scientific groups for their promising applications as they have the freedom to achieve their local and global goals and make their own *** communication topologies based on graph and matrix theory are widely used in a various real-time applications ranging from software agents to ***,while sustaining the significance of both directed and undirected graphs,this research emphases on the demonstration of a distributed average consensus *** uses the harmonic mean in the domain of multi-agent systems with directed and undirected graphs under static topologies based on a control input *** proposed agreement protocol focuses on achieving a constant consensus on directional and undirected graphs using the exchange of information between neighbors to update their status values and to be able to calculate the total number of agents that contribute to the communication network at the same *** proposed method is implemented for the identical networks that are considered under the directional and non-directional communication *** different scenarios are simulated and it is concluded that the undirected approach has an advantage over directed graph communication in terms of processing time and the total number of iterations required to achieve *** same network parameters are introduced for both orientations of the communication *** addition,the results of the simulation and the calculation of various matrices are provided at the end to validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm to achieve consensus.

Radium and Uranium Concentrations Measurements in Vegetables Samples of Iraq

In the present study twenty-two vegetable samples were collected from Iraqi market. Sealed can technique using CR-39 plastic track detector strippable has been used in order to measure radium and uranium concentrations. Etching was done with 6.25 N NaOH and optical microscope was used with the purpose of counting of alpha particle tracks. The values of effective radium content are found to range from 0.074 Bq/ kg to 0.566 Bq/ kg with the mean value of 0.317 Bq/kg. The values of uranium concentrations are found to range from 0.081 ppm to 0.615 ppm with the mean value of 0.345 ppm. Positive correlation has been observed between radium concentration and uranium concentrations in vegetable samples. Measurements of radium and uranium concentrations in vegetables are important from the health protection point of view, so simple and reliable analytical methods must be available.

Efficacy of Vacuum-Assisted Closure (VAC) in Wound Healing

Introduction: Management of wounds is one of the commonest, often quite challenging as well, in surgical practice. Dressing is an essential component of wound management. Given its importance in achieving wound healing and its complications, methods of dressing have been under constant review since time immemorial. Many innovative techniques of wound dressing have been introduced for quick and problem-free wound healing. Vacuum Assisted Closure (VAC) is one of such methods. Objective: To determine whether VAC can help in reducing the healing time of open wounds. Study Design: Quasi-experimental study. Setting: Department of General Surgery, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, Islamabad. Patients and Methods: 120 patients with open wounds, surgical or accidental, were included in the study. They were alternatively assigned to either VAC (Group I) 2 or WMD {wet to moist dressing} (Group II). In both groups, the wounds were assessed for surface area, depth and percentage of granulation every 48 hours for 15 days. Mean change in above wound parameters at the end of study period was calculated. The difference between the two groups was statistically analyzed by applying student T test. P value less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results: In Group I, at the end of the study period, mean reduction in the wound surface area and volume was 39.4% and 60.3% respectively, while granulation tissue formation was 59.7%. In Group II, the respective figures were 26.9%, 38.2% and 24.5%. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P Conclusion: VAC was more effective than WMD in terms of reduction in wound surface, depth and degree of granulation tissue formation. VAC thus can be usefully employed for achieving speedy wound healing.

Study the Attenuation Coefficient of Granite to Use It as Shields against Gamma Ray

The present work investigates the linear and mass attenuation coefficients for gamma rays practically and theoretically by using spectroscopy gamma ray (UCS-20) and program (XCOM)) for various types of common use granite, and compares them with the lead because of its high blocking ability for this type of radiation. This paper concluded through linear and mass attenuation coefficients measurements that these coefficients decrease with increasing incident photons energy. Measurements also showed that the linear attenuation coefficients appropriate linearly with density while mass attenuation coefficients do not get affected.
