Heart failure(HF) is a major clinical concern owing to its high prevalence and high ***,an effective approach to predict diagnostic biomarkers and to explore the altered metabolic pathways in pathogenesis,has been extensively applied in evaluating the course of *** this study,we used this approach to analyse the abundance of metabolites,with liquid chromatograph-mass spectrometer,in plasma samples from rats with transverse aortic constriction(TAC) and patients at different stages of *** compared the metabolic parameters within and between TAC rats and *** apparent metabolic shift was observed in rats,from compensated hypertrophy stage to decompensated hypertrophy stage,and in patients with HF,from stage A to stage B and subsequently stage *** biomarkers were predicted by comparing the variable importance in the projection scores and fold change analysis within and between rats and *** pathway analysis and network analysis provided an overview of the largely disturbed metabolic pathways,and those interfered at different stages and across species were *** significantly changed metabolites and pathways revealed the underlying mechanisms of HF pathogenesis,hinted at novel potential biomarkers,and provided potential therapeutic intervention targets for HF.

Background:Clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula(CR-POPF)is the most common and severe complication after pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD).Despite the development of numerous anastomotic surgical techniques to minimize CR-POPF,more than 30%of patients who undergo PD develop ***,we propose a novel pancreaticojejunostomy(PJ)technique and evaluate its efficacy and safety compared to traditional ***:This retrospective study enrolled 164 consecutive patients who underwent PJ after PD between January 2012 and June *** them,78(47.6%)underwent traditional PJ and 86(52.4%)underwent sixstitch *** primary outcome was CR-POPF at 1-month follow-up defined according to the revised 2016 International Study Group on Pancreatic Fistula *** adjust for baseline differences and selection bias,patients were matched by propensity scores,which left 63 patients with traditional PJ and 63 with six-stitch ***:Compared to patients who underwent traditional PJ(mean age 56.2±9.4 years),patients who underwent six-stitch PJ(mean age 57.4±11.4 years)had a lower CR-POPF *** risk of CR-POPF among patients who underwent six-stitch PJ was decreased by 81.7%after adjustment for age,sex,body mass index,and disease severity compared to patients who underwent traditional ***,the surgery time was reduced from 29 min for traditional PJ to 15 min for six-stitch PJ(P<0.001).Adverse effects such as abdominal fluid collection,abdominal bleeding,and wound infection were similar between two ***:Six-stitch PJ may be an effective and efficient PJ technique for patients who undergo PD surgery.

Cancer has become one of the biggest challenges in the development of modern medical science. In particular, many problems, such as low efficiency, severe side effects, metastasis, and tumor invasion, challenge the development of precise cancer therapy. Continuous advancements in medicine, however, have allowed clear differentiation between tumors and normal tissues that can be exploited for cancer therapeutics. Unlike normal cells, tumor cells have an uncontrollable growth and are infinitely proliferative. These physical, chemical, and biological differences (e.g., metabolic states, high cell density, ability to grow in hypoxic and low pH conditions, and expression of different specific receptors/ ligands) may provide a new perspective for the development of cancer therapeutics. Traditional antitumor drugs have disadvantages, such as poor solubility, insufficient bioavailability in the body, numerous side effects, and development of chemoresistance, all of which greatly limit their therapeutic efficacy.

BACKGROUND As the first-line regimens for the treatment of advanced gastric cancer, both docetaxel, cisplatin, and 5-fluorouracil(DCF) and epirubicin, cisplatin, and 5-fluorouracil(ECF) regimens are commonly used in clinical practice, but there is still controversy about which is *** To compare the efficacy and safety of DCF and ECF regimens by conducting this *** Computer searches in PubMed, EMBASE, Ovid MEDLINE, Science Direct, Web of Science, The Cochrane Library and Scopus were performed to find the clinical studies of all comparisons between DCF and ECF regimens. We used progression-free survival(PFS), overall survival(OS), objective response rate(ORR), disease control rate(DCR), and adverse effects(AEs) as endpoints for *** Our meta-analysis included seven qualified studies involving a total of 598 patients. The pooled hazard ratios between the DCF and ECF groups were comparable in PFS(95%CI: 0.58-1.46, P = 0.73), OS(95%CI: 0.65-1.10, P = 0.21),and total AEs(95%CI: 0.93-1.29, P = 0.30). The DCF group was significantly better than the ECF group in terms of ORR(95%CI: 1.13-1.75, P = 0.002) and DCR(95%CI: 1.03-1.41, P = 0.02). However, the incidence rate of grade 3-4 AEs was also greater in the DCF group than in the ECF group(95%CI: 1.16-1.88, P = 0.002),especially for neutropenia and febrile *** With better ORR and DCR values, the DCF regimen seems to be more suitable for advanced gastric cancer than the ECF regimen. However, the higher rate of AEs in the DCF group still needs to be noticed.

We report a facile approach to synthesize narrow and long graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) by sonochemically cutting chemically derived graphene sheets (GSs). The yield of GNRs can reach ~5 wt% of the starting GSs. The resulting GNRs are several micrometers in length, with ~75% being single-layer, and ~40% being narrower than 20 nm in width. A chemical tailoring mechanism involving oxygen-unzipping of GSs under sonochemical conditions is proposed on the basis of experimental observations and previously reported theoretical calculations;it is suggested that the formation and distribution of line faults on graphite oxide and GSs play crucial roles in the formation of GNRs. These results open up the possibilities of the large-scale synthesis and various technological applications of GNRs.

Cachexia,which affects 50–80%of cancer patients,is a debilitating syndrome that leads to 20%of cancer-related deaths.A key feature of cachexia is adipose tissue atrophy,but how it contributes to the development of cachexia is poorly ***,we demonstrate in mouse models of cancer cachexia that white adipose tissue browning,which can be a characteristic early-onset manifestation,occurs prior to the loss of body weight and skeletal muscle *** analysing the proteins differentially expressed in extracellular vesicles derived from cachexia-inducing tumours,we identified a molecular chaperone,Glucose-regulated protein 75(GRP75),as a critical mediator of adipocyte ***,GRP75 binds adenine nucleotide translocase 2(ANT2)to form a GRP75–ANT2 ***,stabilized ANT2 enhances its interaction with uncoupling protein 1,leading to elevated expression of the latter,which,in turn,promotes adipocyte *** with withanone,a GRP75 inhibitor,can reverse this browning and alleviate cachectic phenotypes in ***,our findings reveal a novel mechanism by which tumour-derived GRP75 regulates white adipose tissue browning during cachexia development and suggest a potential white adipose tissue-centred targeting approach for early cachexia intervention.

A simple, rapid and sensitive method for the determination of protopanaxadiol in rat plasma with ginsenoside Rh2 as internal standard was developed and validated. The analyte and internal standard were extracted from plasma with ether-dichloromethane（3：2, volume ratio） and then were analyzed by reversed-phase HPLC on a short Zorbax Extend C18 column（50 mm×2.1 mm, 3.5 μm i. d.） eluted with a mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile/methanol 0.10 mmol/L ammonium acetate（45：45：10, volume ratio） at 0.4 mL/min. Detection was performed on an Applied Biosystems Sciex API 4000 mass spectrometer set at unit resolution in the multiple reaction monitoring mode. Electrospray ionization was used for ion production. The assay method shows linear over a range of 5-2000 ng/mL and intra- and inter-day precisions over this range were 〈10.0% with accuracy ranged from 86.3% to 114.1%. The limit of detection was 500 pg/mL in the plasma. The method was successfully applied to a preclinical pharmacokinetic study of protopanaxadiol（17.5 mg/kg） administered as a single oral dose.

Study on Mutations in ALS for Resistance to Tribenuron-Methyl in Galium aparine L.

In recent years, Galium aparine L. has not been controlled by tribenuron-methyl in major Chinese winter wheat fields. The objective of this study is to understand the molecular basis of the resistance mechanism to tribenuron-methyl in G. aparine and to find the specific mutation sites in amino acid sequence of acetolactate synthase （ALS） in the resistant biotype of G. aparine. Fragments that encode the ALS were amplified and cloned from susceptible （S） and resistant （R） biotypes of G. aparine to tribenuron-methyl and sequenced subsequently. The result showed that the nucleotide sequence of Rbiotype of G. aparine differed from that of the S biotype with three amino acid substitutions, of which, the amino acid substitution of Trp57-4 （TGG） to Gly （GGG） is located in the highly conserved region Domain B. The substitution of Trp574 might be responsible for the resistance to tribenuron-methyl in the R-biotype of G. aparine.
