Objective:To evaluate 11 Cuban native Bacillus(B.)thuringiensis isolates in order to select one with the best larvicidal activity against Aedes(Ae.)aegypti and low ***:The cry and cyt genes of the isolates(A21,A51,L95,L910,M29,R84,R85,R87,R89,U81 and X48)were amplified by *** influence of organic matter and NaCl on the larvicidal activity was tested by *** was assayed on peritoneal macrophages of BALB/c ***:The cyt1(Aa,Ab,Ba),cyt2,cry4aA,cry4Ba,cry11(Aa,Ba,Bb)and cry10 genes were identified in all native Cuban *** larvicidal activity(LC_(90))of seven isolates was affected by the presence of organic matter in the water,while A21,A51,L910,R84,U81 and X48 had better LC_(50),LC_(90),LC_(95) than the 266/29-Ⅶ-98 control *** LC_(50) of two isolates was affected by the presence of NaCl and A21,A51,R85 isolate had better larvicidal activity than the 266/29-Ⅶ-98 control *** terms of toxicity against macrophages,the extracts of nine isolates were less cytotoxic than the control ***:Native isolate A21 had the main virulence factors against *** larvae,displayed a good larvicidal activity in presence of different factors related with *** breeding sites,and had low citotoxicity against *** results can contribute to the improvement of existing biological control strategies and the development of new biolarvicides.

Antileishmanial assessment of leaf extracts from Pluchea carolinensis,Pluchea odorata and Pluchea rosea

Objective:To evaluate the antileishmanial activity of different extracts from three Cuban Pluchea ***:In in vitro assays the IC50was calculated in the promastigotes and amastigotes forms as cytotoxicity in murine *** leishmaniasis cutanea experiment,mortality, weight loss,lesion size and burden parasite were ***:Extracts evaluated showed inhibitive effect on growing of promastigote form;however,active extracts caused a high toxicity. Ethanol and n-hexane extracts demonstrated specific antileishmanial *** and n-hexane extracts from Pluchea carolinensis（***） caused similar inhibition against amastigote *** intraperitoneal administration of the ethanol extract of *** at 100 mg/kg prevented lesion development compared with control ***:The antileishmanial experiment suggests that ethanol extracts from *** is the most *** studies are still needed to evaluate the polential of this plant as a source of new antileishmanial agents.

Bioassay-guided in vitro study of the antileishmanial and cytotoxic properties of Bixa orellana seed extract

Objective:To investigate the leishmanicidal effect of the Bixa orellana crude seed extract and its fractions against Leishmania ***:Four main fractions(BO-A,BO-B,BO-C and BO-D)were obtained by exhaustion with solvent with increased polarity from the Bixa orellana crude seed extract and 28 *** antileishmanial activity was evaluated in intracellular amastigotes and the cytotoxicity was assessed in murine intraperitoneal ***:The BO-A and BO-B fractions showed a good antileishmanial activity with IC50 values of(12.9±4.1)and(12.4±0.3)μg/mL,*** sub-fractions BO-B1(IC_(50)=(11.8±3.8)μg/mL)and BO-B3[IC_(50)=(13.6±4.7)μg/mL]also proved to have a good leishmanicidal *** general,the sub-fractions showed a lower toxicity than the crude extract.A selectivity index of 9 indicated a moderate selectivity of the BO-A,BO-B and BO-C fractions and BO-B1 ***:Potential of this plant against cutaneous leishmaniasis should be further investigated.
