We present a theoretical study of the one-dimensional modulational instability of a broad optical beam propagating in a biased photorefractive crystal with both linear and quadratic electro-optic effects(Kerr effect)under steadystate ***-dimensional modulational instability growth rates are obtained by treating the space-charge field equation globally and *** theoretical reasoning and numerical simulation show that both the global and local modulational instability gains are governed simultaneously by the strength and the polarity of external bias field and by the ratio of the intensity of the broad beam to that of the dark *** a strong bias field,the results obtained using these two methods are in good agreement in the low spatial frequency ***,the instability growth rate increases with the bias field,and the maximum instability growth occurs when ratio of light intensity to dark irradiance is 0.88.

Background:Transcatheter closure(TCC)has emerged as the preferred treatment for selected congenital heart disease(CHD).While TCC offers benefits for patients with postoperative residual shunts,understanding its mid-and long-term efficacy and safety remains ***:This study aims to assess the mid-and long-term safety and efficacy of TCC for patients with residual atrial or ventricular septal shunts following CHD ***:In this consecutive retrospective study,we enrolled 35 patients with residual shunt who underwent TCC or surgical repair of CHD between June 2011 to October *** candidacy was determined based on established *** and electrocardiogram were conducted during the perioperative period and continued as part of long-term ***:Among the patients,5(14.3%)exhibited interatrial shunt-ing,while 30(85.7%)had interventricular *** was successfully implemented in 33 of 35 patients,with exceptions in two cases of post-ventricular septal defect repair due to anatomical challenges involving the shape and aortic *** resulted in a TCC success rate of 94.3%.Trace residual shunt was detected in two interventricular shunting cases and a mild residual shunt in one interventricular shunting case;all resolved by the three-month follow-up after *** complications included one hematoma at the puncture site and one transient junctional rhythm during the perioperative *** a median follow-up of 73 months,there were no instances of residual shunt,device embolization,occluder displacement,valve insufficiency,malignant arrhythmia,infective endocarditis,death,or other serious ***:TCC is an effective and safe therapy for patients with residual atrial or ventricular septal shunts following CHD *** support the consideration of TCC as the preferred treatment option for appropriate patient populations.

Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic brain injury is the main cause of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy and cerebral ***,there are few effective clinical treatments for neonatal hypoxic-ischemic brain ***,we investigated the neuroprotective and molecular mechanisms of exogenous nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide,which can protect against hypoxic injury in adulthood,in a mouse model of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic brain *** this study,nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide(5 mg/kg)was intraperitoneally administered 30 minutes befo re surgery and every 24 hours *** results showed that nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide treatment improved body weight,brain structure,adenosine triphosphate levels,oxidative damage,neurobehavioral test outcomes,and seizure threshold in experimental *** mass tag proteomics revealed that numerous proteins were altered after nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide treatment in hypoxic-ischemic brain injury *** reaction monitoring and western blotting confirmed changes in the expression levels of proteins including serine(or cysteine)peptidase inhibitor,clade A,member 3N,fibronectin 1,5'-nucleotidase,cytosolic IA,microtubule associated protein 2,and complexin *** analyses showed that nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide ameliorated hypoxic-ischemic injury through inflammation-related signaling pathways(e.g.,nuclear factor-kappa B,mitogen-activated protein kinase,and phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase/protein kinase B).These findings suggest that nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide treatment can improve neurobehavioral phenotypes in hypoxic-ischemic brain injury mice through inflammation-related pathways.

In tea plants,the abundant flavonoid compounds are responsible for the health benefits for the human body and define the astringent flavor *** the downstream mechanisms of flavonoid biosynthesis have been extensively studied,the role of chalcone synthase(CHS)in this secondary metabolic process in tea plants remains less *** this study,we compared the evolutionary profile of the flavonoid metabolism pathway and discovered that gene duplication of CHS occurred in tea *** identified three CsCHS genes,along with a CsCHS-like gene,as potential candidates for further functional *** the CsCHS-like gene,the CsCHS genes effectively restored flavonoid production in Arabidopsis ***,CsCHS transgenic tobacco plants exhibited higher flavonoid compound accumulation compared to their wild-type *** notably,our examination of promoter and gene expression levels for the selected CHS genes revealed distinct responses to UV-B stress in tea *** findings suggest that environmental factors such as UV-B exposure could have been the key drivers behind the gene duplication events in CHS.

The development of renewable woods for power generation can help improve the energy efficiency of buildings,and promote the concept design and implementation of“smart buildings”.Here,with specific chemical treatment and hydrothermal synthesis,we demonstrated the practical value of natural wood for thermoelectric power generation in smart *** prepared wood-based thermoelectric sponges show high Seebeck coefficients of 320.5 and 436.6μV/K in the vertical and parallel directions of the longitudinal channel of *** 500 cycles of the compressive strain at 20%,the corresponding Seebeck coefficients increase up to 413.4 and 502.1μV/K,respectively,which is attributed to the improved contact and connection between tellurium thermoelectric *** Seebeck coefficients are much larger than those of most reported inorganic thermoelectric ***,the thermoelectric sponges maintain excellent thermoelectric and mechanical *** further modeled the application value of wood-based thermoelectric sponges in smart buildings for power *** high thermoelectric electricity can be obtained,such as in Beijing with over 1.5 million kWh every year,demonstrating the great potential in thermal energy harvest and energy supply.

The emergence of influenza virus A pandemic H1N1 in April 2009 marked the first pandemic of the 21st *** this study,we observed significant differences in the polymerase activities of two clinical 2009 H1N1 influenza A virus isolates from Chinese and Japanese *** comparison of the three main protein subunits(PB2,PB1,and PA)of the viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase complex and subsequent mutational analysis revealed that a single amino acid substitution(E206K)was responsible for the observed impaired replication *** in vitro experiments showed that presence of PAE206K decreased the replication of influenza A/WSN/33 virus in mammalian cells and a reduction in the virus’s pathogenicity in *** studies revealed that PAE206K is a temperature-sensitive mutant associated with the inability to transport PB1–PA complex to the nucleus at high temperature(39.5℃).Hence,this naturally occurring variant in the PA protein represents an ideal candidate mutation for the development of live attenuated influenza vaccines.

Background Alternating hemiplegia of childhood(AHC)is a rare pediatric syndrome characterized by recurring episodes of hemiplegia or quadriplegia,and frequently accompanied by dystonic posturing,choreoathetosis movements,anomalous ocular motions,and a gradual deterioration in cognitive *** principal etiology of this disorder is traced back to mutations in the ATP1A3 *** presentation Here,we report a 16-year-old girl with recurrent hemiplegia since her *** patient has experienced paroxysmal limb weakness and aphasia for over 15 years,and has kept seeking medical attention but without receiving effective treatment.A misdiagnosis of hysteria persisted for over 4 years until the patient’s admission to our ***-exome sequencing identified a known pathogenic heterozygous c.2270T>C(***757Pro)mutation in her ATP1A3 ***,her clinical manifestations,including pathological emotional responses and autonomic dysfunction,differed from the established profile associated with the same ATP1A3 mutation,which typically present with intellectual disability,a rostrocaudal symptom gradient,choreoathetosis,and *** patient was finally diagnosed with AHC and treated with flunarizine thus significantly ameliorated hemiplegic *** This case enhances our understanding of the intricate clinical manifestations of AHC,which require careful differentiation from various diseases such as epilepsy,hysteria,and paroxysmal *** the diagnosis of patients presenting with suspected symptoms,adhering to a systematic approach for localizing and diagnosing neurological disorders is crucial to prevent misdiagnosis and inappropriate ***,when AHC is suspected in a patient,genetic testing should be considered as part of the diagnostic approach.
