Novel method for improving iron recovery from electric arc furnace slag: on-site hot modification

Modeling iron release from cast iron pipes in an urban water distribution system caused by source water switch

Significant iron release from cast iron pipes in water distribution systems(WDSs),which usually occurs during the source water switch period,is a great concern of water utilities because of the potential occurrence of"red water"and customer *** study developed a new method which combined in-situ water stagnation experiments with mathematical models and numerical simulations to predict the iron release caused by source water ***-situ water stagnation experiments were conducted to determine the total iron accumulation in nine cast iron pipes in-service in Beijing when switching the local water to tre ated Danjiangkou Reservior *** showe d that the difference in the concentration increment of total iron in 24 hr(ΔCITI,24),***-term iron release,caused by source water switch was mainly dependent on the difference in the key quality parameters(pH,hardness,nitrate,Larson Ratio and dissolved oxygen(DO))between the two source *** iron release rate(RFe)after switch,***-term iron release,was closely related to the pipe properties as well as the DO and total residual chlorine(TRC)*** models ofΔCITI,24 and RFe were developed to quantitatively reveal the relationship between iron release and the key quality *** RFe model could successfully combine with EPANET-MSX,a numerical simulator of water quality for WDSs to extend the iron release modeling from pipe level to network *** new method is applicable to predicting iron release during source water switch,thus facilitating water utilities to take preventive actions to avoid"red water".

Very high-energy electrons(VHEEs)are potential candidates for FLASH radiotherapy for deep-seated *** proposed a compact VHEE facility based on an X-band high-gradient high-power *** this study,we investigated and realized the first X-band backward traveling-wave(BTW)accelerating structure as the buncher for a VHEE facility.A method for calculating the parameters of single cell from the field distribution was introduced to simplify the design of the BTW ***-domain circuit equations were applied to calculate the transient beam parameters of the buncher in the unsteady state.A prototype of the BTW structure with a thermionic cathode-diode electron gun was designed,fabricated,and tested at high power at the Tsinghua X-band high-power test *** structure successfully operated with 5-MW microwave pulses from the pulse compressor and outputted electron bunches with an energy of 8 MeV and a pulsed current of 108 mA.

We establish an explicit embedding of a quantum affine sl_(n) into a quantum affine sl_(n)+*** embedding serves as a common generalization of two natural,but seemingly unrelated,embed-dings,one on the quantum affine Schur algebra level and the other on the non-quantum *** embedding on the quantum affine Schur algebras is used extensively in the analysis of canonical bases of quantum affine sln and gl_(n).The embedding on the non-quantum level is used crucially in a work of Riche and Williamson on the study of modular representation theory of general linear groups over a finite *** same embedding is also used in a work of Maksimau on the categorical representations of affine general linear *** further provide a more natural compatibility statement of the em-bedding on the idempotent version with that on the quantum affine Schur algebra level.A gl_(n)-variant of the embedding is also established.

Juvenile hormone signaling-a mini review

Since it was first postulated by Wigglesworth in 1934, juvenile hormone (JH) is considered a status quo hormone in insects because it prevents metamorphosis that is initiated by the molting hormone 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E). During the last decade, significant advances have been made regarding JH signaling. First, the bHLH-PAS transcription factor Met/Gce was identified as the JH intracellular receptor. In the presence of JH, with the assistance of Hsp83, and through physical association with a bHLH?PAS transcriptional co-activator, Met/Gce enters the nucleus and binds to E-box-like motifs in promoter regions of JH primary?response genes for inducing gene expression. Second, the zinc finger transcription factor Kr-hl was identified as the anti-metamorphic factor which transduces JH signaling. Via Kr-hl binding sites, Kr-hl represses expression of 20E primary?response genes (i.e. Bi\ E93 and E5) to prevent 20E-induced metamorphosis. Third, through the intracellular signaling, JH promotes differ ent aspects of female reproduction. Nevertheless, this action varies greatly from species to species. Last, a hypothetical JH membrane receptor has been predicted to be either a GPCR or a tyrosine kinase receptor. In future, it will be a great challenge to understand how the JH intracellular receptor Met/Gce and the yet unidentified JH membrane receptor coordinate to regulate metamorphosis and reproduction in insects.

The effect of al particle size on thermal decomposition,mechanical strength and sensitivity of Al/ZrH_(2)/PTFE composite

To study the thermal decomposition of Al/Zr H_(2)/PTFE with different Al particle size as well as mechanical strength and impact sensitivity under medium and low strain rates,molding-vacuum sintering was adopted to prepare four groups of power materials and cylindrical specimens with different Al particle *** active decomposition temperature of Zr H_(2) was obtained by TG-DSC,and the quasi-static mechanics/reaction characteristics as well as the impact sensitivity of the specimen were studied respectively by quasi-static compression and drop-hammer *** results show that the yield strength of the material decreased with the increase of the Al particle size,while the compressive strength,failure strain and toughness increased first and then decreased,which reached the maximum values of 116.61 MPa,191%,and 119.9 MJ/m respectively when the Al particle size is 12-14 mm because of particle size *** specimens with the highest strength and toughness formed circumferential open cracks and reacted partly when *** with developmental cracks formed inside did not *** is considered that fracture of specimens first triggered initial reaction between Al and PTFE to release an amount of *** ZrH_(2) was activated and decomposed,and participated in subsequent reaction to generate Zr *** impact sensitivity of the specimens decreased with the increase of Al particle size.

Synthesis and anti-TMV activity of novel N-(pyrimidin-5-yl)-N'-phenylureas

In order to find novel leading structures of pesticide, a series of N-（pyrimidin-5-yl）-N1-phenylureas （4a-4h） were designed and synthesized from 4-chloro-2-diethylamino-6-methyl-5-nitropyrimidine 1 via substitution, reduction and acylation procedures. Preliminary bioassay showed that all the target compounds processing good anti-TMV （tobacco mosaic virus） activity. Two compounds （4d and 4e） displayed higher activity superior to virazole at a concentration of 5.0 ×10^-4 g/mE.

Effect of Guanxin Danshen Dripping Pills on Coronary Heart Disease Comorbid with Depression or Anxiety: The ADECODE-Real World Study

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of Guanxin Danshen Dripping Pill(GXDSDP) in treating anxiety and depression in patients with coronary heart disease(CHD). Methods: A total of 1,428 patients diagnosed with CHD screened for anxiety, depression, and quality of life(QOL) at baseline received 0.4 g of GXDSDP treatment 3 times per day and returned for monthly reassessment. Patients were recruited after stable treatment for CHD and received assessment of General Anxiety Disorder-7(GAD-7), Patient Health Questionnaire-9(PHQ-9), and Seattle Angina Questionnaire(SAQ) for evaluating anxiety, depression, and *** were followed up 3 times, once every 4 weeks, during outpatient visits for 12 weeks. Results: At the third follow-up(F3), the anxiety symptom of 63.79%(673/1,055) of the patients improved to sub-clinical level, and the GAD-7 score improved significantly(8.11 vs. 3.87, Plinical level, with a significant improvement in PHQ-9 score(8.69 vs. 4.41, Pline(all Plimitation(31.17 vs. 34.14), anginal stability(2.74 vs. 4.14), anginal frequency(8.16vs. 9.10), treatment satisfaction(13.43 vs. 16.29), and disease perception(8.69 vs. 11.02). Conclusions: A fixed dosage of GXDSDP may be a potential treatment option for CHD patients comorbid with anxiety or depression.(Registration No. ChiCTR2100051523)
