This paper describes a facile method of preparing cubic Au nanoframes with open structures via the galvanic replacement reaction between Ag nanocubes and AuCl_(2)^(-).A mechanistic study of the reaction revealed that the formation of Au nanoframes relies on the diffusion of both Au and Ag *** effect of the edge length and ridge thickness of the nanoframes on the localized surface plasmon resonance peak was explored by a combination of discrete dipole approximation calculations and single nanoparticle *** their hollow and open structures,the Au nanoframes represent a novel class of substrates for applications including surface plasmonics and surface-enhanced Raman scattering.

Nanozyme catalysis has been mainly focused on a few chromogenic and fluorogenic substrates, while environmentally and biologically important compounds need to be tested to advance the field. In this work, we studied oxidation of estradiol(E2) in the presence of various nanomaterials including gold nanoparticles(AuNPs), nanoceria(CeO2), Fe3O4, Fe2O3, MnO2 and Mn2O3, and found that AuNPs had a dehydrogenase-mimicking activity to convert E2 to estrone(E1). This conversion was monitored using hPLC. The reaction was faster at higher ph and reached saturation at ph 8. Smaller AuNPs had a higher catalytic efficiency and 5 nm AuNPs were 4.8-fold faster than 13 nm at the same total surface area. Finally,we tried 17α-ethinylestradiol(EE2) as a substrate and found that 5 nm AuNPs can catalyze EE2 oxidation in the presence of h2O2. This work indicated that some nanomaterials can affect environmentally important hormones via oxidation reactions, and this study has expanded the scope of substrate of nanozymes.

Osteomyelitis of the calcaneus can be a limb threatening diagnosis, which is typically treated with antibiotic therapy with or without partial resection of the bone. Extensive infection of the bone commonly results in limb amputation via transtibial or transfemoral amputation, which can increase morbidity and mortality. This case report involves a 29-year-old male who sustained bilateral calcaneal fracture after a fall, who developed osteomyelitis of the right calcaneus after being treated with internal/external fixation and antibiotic therapy. In order to preserve the limb total calcaneal replacement with 3D printed implant was done.

Three new chiral monoanionic [ON] ancillary phenolate ligands with varying pendant arms have been synthesized in moderate to high yields (50% - 85%) via Mannich-type condensation reaction of chiral substituted phenol, formaldehyde and (+)-bis-[(R)-1-phenylethyl]amine. These new organic compounds were fully characterized via nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1h and 13C) and elemental analysis. The newly synthesized ligands are suitable candidates for metal-catalyzed ring-opening of lactones and asymmetric catalysis.

hypersensitivity reactions （hSR） to oxaliplatin in patients with colorectal cancer include facial flushing, erythema, pruritis, fever, tachycardia, dyspnea, tongue swelling, rash/hives, headache, chills, weakness, vomiting, burning sensations, dizziness, and edema. We report a patient with fever as the sole manifestation of initial hSR, review the literature and discuss the management of hSR. A 57-year-old female with T3N2M0 rectal adenocarcinoma received modified FOLFOX-6. She tolerated the first 8 cycles without any toxicities except grade 1 peripheral neuropathy and nausea. During 9th and 10th infusions, she developed fever to a maximum of 38.3℃ with stable hemodynamic status despite medications. During 11th infusion, she developed grade 3 hSR consisting of symptomatic bronchospasm, hypotension, nausea, vomiting, cough, and fever. On examination, she was pale, cyanotic, with a temperature of 38.8℃, BP dropped to 95/43 mm hg, pulse of 116/min and O2 saturation of 88%-91%. She was hospitalized for management and recovered in 24 h. Fever alone is not a usual symptom of oxaliplatin hSR. It may be indicative that the patient may develop serious reactions subsequently, as did our patient who developed hypotension with the third challenge. Treatment and prevention consists of slowing the infusion rate, use of steroids and antagonists of Type 1 and 2 histamine receptor antagonists, whereas desensitization could help to provide the small number of patients who experience severe hSR with the ability to further receive an effective therapy for their colorectal cancer.

The Kilo Degree Survey(Ki DS)is currently the only sky survey providing optical(ugri)plus near-infrared(NIR,ZY h JKS)seeing matched photometry over an area larger than 1000 *** is obtained by incorporating the NIR data from the VISTA Kilo Degree Infrared Galaxy(VIKING)survey,covering the same Ki DS *** such,the Ki DS multi-wavelength photometry represents a unique dataset to test the ability of stellar population models to return robust photometric stellar mass(M_(*))and star-formation rate(SFR)*** we use a spectroscopic sample of galaxies for which we possess ugri ZY JhK_(s)“gaussianized”magnitudes from Ki DS data release *** fit the spectral energy distribution from the 9-band photometry using:(1)three different popular libraries of stellar population templates,(2)single burst,simple and delayed exponential star-formation history models,and(3)a wide range of priors on age and *** template fitting codes we use two popular softwares:Le Phare and *** investigate the variance of the stellar masses and the star-formation rates from the different combinations of templates,star formation recipes and codes to assess the stability of these estimates and define some“robust”median quantities to be included in the upcoming Ki DS data *** a science validation test,we derive the mass function,the star formation rate function,and the SFR-M_(*)relation for a low-redshift(zhat result in excellent agreement with previous literature *** final catalog,containing~290000 galaxies with redshift 0.01
