AIM: To investigate the existence and levels of sH2a, a soluble secreted form of the asialoglycoprotein receptor in human serum. METHODS: Production of recombinant sH2a and development of a monoclonal antibody and an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). This assay was used to determine the presence and concentration of sH2a in human sera of individuals of both sexes and a wide range of ages. RESULTS: The recombinant protein was produced successfully and a specific ELISA assay was developed. The levels of sH2a in sera from 62 healthy individuals variedminimally (147 ± 19 ng/mL). In contrast, 5 hepatitis C patients with cirrhosis showed much decreased sH2a levels (50 ± 9 ng/mL). CONCLUSION: Constant sH2a levels suggest constitutive secretion from hepatocytes in healthy individuals. This constant level and the decrease with cirrhosis suggest a diagnostic potential.

＜正＞Peaches are highly perishable,ripen and deteriorate quickly at ambient temperature,and cold storage is used to slow these *** analyses of two different systems were conducted to find common differences that might relate to chilling injury *** injury can take different forms in peaches including flesh browning,flesh bleeding or reddening,wooliness（softening accompanied with the development of a dry rather than juicy texture）,and leatheriness（lack of softening with the texture remaining firm）.The development of these disorders was followed in two systems:a nectarine and its peach progenitor,and two peaches,one of which was more sensitive to chilling injury than the *** analysis was performed by utilizing the ChillPeach cDNA microarray platform. In the first system examined,the peach was more sensitive to chilling injury than the nectarine,and developed flesh browning and wooliness after 5 weeks of storage and shelf life,while the nectarine flesh was *** analysis of the two was performed at harvest to see if differences could be found that would precede these developments. Of the 2581 genes that met the threshold for hybridization quality（out of 4261 cDNAs on the microarray）,95%of them showed similar expression between the two ***,of the genes showed over a 2-fold difference in expression,70%of them were higher in the peach than in the *** contrast,some categories of genes had higher expression in the nectarine;antioxidant,and chaperones and *** genes might help the nectarine withstand cold stress better than the peach. Background:Many studies have shown that women who have experienced intimate partner violence(IPV)are at a greater risk of HIV,but the factors accounting for this association are unclear,and trials of interventions to reduce IPV have not consistently reduced HIV ***:This study uses an agent-based model,calibrated to South African data sources,to evaluate hypotheses about likely causal pathways linking IPV,HIV,and other confounding *** about associations between IPV and HIV risk behaviours were based on reviews of international ***:There is an association between past IPV experience and HIV incidence even when no causal effects are assumed(IRR 1.28,95%CI 1.23e1.34),because women with a propensity for multiple partners are more likely to have ever been in a relationship with a violent ***,in addition,men with a propensity for concurrent relationships are more likely to perpetrate IPV,the IRR increases to 1.42(95%CI 1.36e1.48),consistent with empirical IRR *** scenarios in which experience of IPV is assumed to cause changes in women's sexual behaviour have little effect on the *** intervention that reduces IPV by 50%could be expected to reduce HIV incidence by at most 1.3%.Interpretation:Much of the observed association between IPV and HIV is likely to be due to confounding behavioural *** interventions to reduce IPV are important,these interventions alone are unlikely to have a substantial impact on HIV incidence.
