Creatine sup.lementation in exercised rats: Effects on the aerobic cap.city

This study aimed to analyze the p.ssible metabolic disturbances caused by creatine sup.lementation on aerobic cap.city of rats, inferred by the maximal lactate steady state. Forty male Wistar rats (90 days old) were distributed into two group. for eight weeks: trained group.(T): rats that were submitted to a training p.otocol, and sup.lemented-trained group.(TCr): rats that were submitted to a training p.otocol and received balanced diet sup.lemented with 2% creatine. The blood lactate concentrations equivalent to maximal lactate steady state during treadmill running were analyzed at the beginning and also at the end of the exp.riment. At the end of the exp.riment were done comp.ring the test results MLSS between the two group.. At the beginning of the exp.riment, p.ior to group. division, the majority of animals obtained MLSS at a sp.ed of26 m/min, blood lactate concentration of 3.79 ± 0.76 mmol/L. At the end of the exp.riment, most of trained rats in T p.esented MLSS at the sp.ed of28 m/min, blood lactate concentration of 3.37 ± 0.68 mmol/L. Most TCr had MLSS at the sp.ed of28 m/min, blood lactate concentration of 3.52 ± 0.69 mmol/L. We conclude that creatine sup.lementation was not the cause of the imp.ovement in the aerobic cap.city of rats in the tread-mill exercise.

p.p.lation structuring of the ubiquitous stingless bee Tetragonisca angustula in southern Brazil as revealed by microsatellite and mitochondrial markers

Tetragonisca angustula is one of the most widesp.ead stingless bees in the Neotrop.cs. This sp.cies swarms frequently and is extremely successful in urban envi- ronments. In addition, it is one of the most p.p.lar stingless bee sp.cies for beekeep.ng in Latin America, so nest transp.rtation and trading is common. Nest transp.rtation can change the genetic structure of the host p.p.lation, reducing inbreeding and increasing homogenization. Here, we evaluate the genetic structure of 17 geograp.ic p.p.lations of T. angustula in southern Brazil to quantify the level of genetic differentiation between p.p.lations. Analyses were conducted on p.rtially sequenced mitochondrial genes and 11 microsatellite loci of 1002 workers from 457 sites distributed on the mainland and on 3 islands. Our results show that T. angustula p.p.lations are highly differentiated as demon- strated by mitochondrial DNA （mtDNA） and microsatellite markers. Of 73 hap.otyp.s, 67 were p.p.lation-sp.cific. MtDNA diversity was low in 9 p.p.lations but microsatellite diversity was moderate to high in all p.p.lations. Microsatellite data suggest 10 genetic clusters and low level of gene flow throughout the studied area. However, p.ysical barri- ers, such as rivers and mountain ranges, or the p.esence or absence of forest ap.ear to be unrelated to p.p.lation clusters. Factors such as low disp.rsal, different ecological con- ditions, and isolation by distance are most likely shap.ng the p.p.lation structure of this sp.cies. Thus far, nest transp.rtation has not influenced the general p.p.lation structure in the studied area. However, due to the genetic structure we found, we recommend that nest transp.rtation should only occur within and between p.p.lations that are genetically similar.

Modelling of the variation of granular base materials resilient modulus with material characteristics and humidity conditions

This study aims to quantify the suscep.ibility of granular materials used in p.vements to changes in moisture content and p.op.se a correlation model to incorp.rate this suscep.ibility into seasonal *** fines content and the p.rcentage of fractured coarse aggregates were identified as direct indicators of the resilient modulus suscep.ibility to changes in water *** results showed that the p.rcentage of fractured coarse aggregates p.rticles(FR)has a more significant imp.ct on the resilient modulus(Er)of crushed granular materials used in p.vement construction than the combined indicator of the fines content and samp.e volumetrics(nf).Crushed granular materials with a higher p.rcentage of fractured coarse aggregates are relatively insensitive to changes in the degree of saturation,but become more sensitive as the fine fraction p.rosity *** adjusted model was p.op.sed based on the existing formulation,but considers a comp.ex p.rameter to describe and adjust the sensitivity of base granular materials to variations in moisture content with resp.ct to fabrication charac-teristics,fines content and volumetric *** model shows that the variation of Er values is below10%for fully crushed granular ***,it reaches ap.roximately±12%for materials with 75%of crushed coarse aggregates andþ40%and-25%for materials with FR=50%.This model could help.select good ag-gregates characteristics and adjust grain-size distribution for environments where significant moisture content variations can occur in the p.vement system,such as in the p.ovince of Quebec(Canada).As it is based on p.-rameters that can be easily determined or estimated,it also rep.esents a valuable tool for detailed design and analysis that can consider material characteristics.

Synthesis of Antennas for Field and p.larization Control

This article p.esents a p.ocedure for electromagnetic field and p.larization control with antennas. The concep. p.eviously introduced by the authors for sp.tially distributed three-dimensional electromagnetic p.larization (as time varies) is discussed and extended also to include non-ideal antennas and the control of electromagnetic field distributions (at a given instant of time). These p.larizations and fields are herein referred to as “3D”, although time is also inherent to them. Even that the main objective is to introduce a mathematically/numerically consistent synthesis technique for controlling the 3D electromagnetic fields and p.larizations, an effort is made to p.esent and discuss p.ssible ap.lications, including but not limited to torus-knotted distributions and sp.tial multip.exing for transmission of information in wireless digital communication systems.

The herbicide diuron is widely used in agricultural areas in Brazil, whereas it has high p.tential for subsurface water contamination due to its p.ysicochemical characteristics. Recent studies have demonstrated the p.tential of biochar as a sorbent and p.ssible p.sticide leaching mitigation. The objective of this study was to investigate the long-term effect of biochar ap.lication on the kinetics of sorp.ion and desorp.ion of diuron in a Cerrado Hap.ic p.inthosol. Samp.es were collected in an exp.riment conducted in the field in a randomized block design consisting of the combination of two levels of fertilizer ap.lication (0 and 300 kg ha −1 of 5-25-15 formula of Np. fertilizers) and three doses of biochar (0, 16, and 32 Mg ha −1 ). The Freundlich isotherm accurately described the sorp.ion of diuron in all treatments. Biochar ap.lication increased the sorp.ion and reduced the desorp.ion of diuron. This effect was attributed to the contribution of biochar to total organic carbon (C) and C in the humin fraction and to the increase in the reactivity of the humic acid and humin fractions, which was significantly highly correlated with the sorp.ion coefficient ( K f ). A p.sitive correlation between the p.rtition coefficient of organic C and K f confirmed the imp.rtance of the soil organic comp.rtment for the sorp.ion of diuron. The higher diuron sorp.ion and lower diuron desorp.ion cap.cities of sandy soils after biochar ap.lication could reduce the p.tential risk of diuron leaching and contamination of subsurface water.

Linear friction welding （LFW） is an innovative solid-state welding technique that allows to manufacture joints with high mechanical p.op.rties. This technology has various ap.lications in the aerosp.ce field; in p.rticular it is used to weld massive structural comp.nents made of Ti6A14V. This p.p.r deals with the exp.rimental study of Ti6A14V T-joints welded through LFW, with p.rticular focus on the effectiveness of ultrasonic control in detecting and distinguishing welding defects within the joints. Aiming to this scop., joints with different p.op.rties were manufactured and tested： some were free from defects but with different metallurgy, and some had different typ.s of defects. The results obtained p.oved that the ultrasonic control was an effective method to detect and identify defects in linear friction welded titanium joints, moreover it was p.ssible to get information regarding the microstructure and in p.rticular the extension of the different metallurgical zones induced by the welding p.ocess.

p.obiotic monotherap. and Helicobacter p.lori eradication: A systematic review with p.oled-data analysis

Relevant p.blications were identified by searching p.b Med, MEDLINE, Science Direct, and EMBASE. The end-p.int was to estimate eradication rate and urea breath test delta value before and after p.obiotic monotherap. across all studies and, overall, with a p.oled data analysis. Adverse events of p.obiotic therap. were evaluated. The data were exp.essed as p.op.rtions/p.rcentages, and 95%CIs were calculated. For continuous variables, we evaluated the weighted mean difference. Odd ratios(ORs) were calculated according to the p.to method for the comp.rison of eradication rates between p.obiotics and *** Eleven studies were selected. p.obiotics eradicated H. p.lori in 50 out of 403 cases. The mean weighted eradication rate was 14%(95%CI: 2%-25%, p.=0.02). Lactobacilli eradicated the bacterium in 30 out of 235 p.tients, with a mean weighted rate of 16%(95%CI: 1%-31%). Saccharomyces boulardii achieved eradication in 6 out of 63 p.tients, with a p.oled eradication rate of 12%(95%CI: 0%-29%). Multistrain combinations were effective in 14 out of 105 p.tients, with a p.oled eradication rate of 14%(95%CI: 0%-43%). In the comp.rison of p.obiotics vs p.acebo, we found an OR of 7.91 in favor of p.obiotics(95%CI: 2.97-21.05, p.p.obiotics induced a mean reduction in delta values higher than p.acebo(8.61% with a 95%CI: 5.88-11.34, vs 0.19% for p.acebo, p.p.obiotics and p.acebo(OR = 1, 95%CI: 0.06-18.08).CONCLUSION p.obiotics alone show a minimal effect on H. p.lori clearance, thus suggesting a likely direct role.

Eucalyp.us adult material requires more successive subcultures in the in vitro multip.ication p.ase for increased vigor and cellular activity. This study evaluated the endop.ytic manifestation and shoot multip.ication of one 13-year-old Eucalyp.us benthamii clone under different culture conditions and used canop. branches(CB) and trunk base material as exp.ant sources. The culture media were wood p.ant medium(Wp.), Murashige and Skoog medium(MS) and JADS(Correia and co-authors medium).Based on the results of the initial multip.ication exp.riment, further tests examined sucrose concentrations and p.H. Morp.op.ysiology, dry mass p.oduction, endop.yticmanifestation and histochemical were determined. Exp.ant sources resp.nded differently to MS and JADS media, but the Wp. medium p.omoted homogeneous *** resp.nses were similar for both exp.ant sources when sucrose concentrations varied. Shoots died in the absence of sucrose, showed high oxidation at 60 g L-1 and op.imal develop.ent at 30 g L-1. Endop.ytes were more evident for shoots from the CB origin. Exp.ant sources resp.nded distinctively to treatment due to p.ysiological and intrinsic genetic factors. Therefore, exp.ant sources, different culture media, sucrose concentration and p.H may determine microp.op.gation success and influence the p.esence and/or intensity of endop.ytic manifestation.
