Pyomoyoma is a rare complication of Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE). This case report reflects on this condition. A 45-year-old female, a known case of adenomyosis, presented with intermittent fever and foul vaginal discharge. These symptoms occurred shortly after the patient underwent UAE for menorrhagia secondary to adenomyosis. Computed tomography scan of the abdomen and pelvis aided in the diagnosis of Pyomyoma secondary to UAE. After a trial of broad spectrum antibiotics and Suction and Evacuation of the uterus had little to no help in the patient’s condition, she underwent Total Abdominal Hysterectomy in which a big, organized pus collection was removed from the uterus. Conclusion: Pyomyoma should be considered in the differentials for patients presenting with fever and vaginal discharge post UAE.

AIM: To investigate the effectiveness of combinationtherapy with transzonular triamcinolone-moxifloxacin andconventional perioperative drops in reducing postoperativecomplications of cataract surgery. METHODS: Electronic medical records of cataractsurgery patients (single surgeon) were reviewed fromJanuary 2018 to September 2021. The rate of postoperativecomplications including prolonged and/or recurrentpostoperative inflammation, endophthalmitis, cystoid macularedema (CME), and intraocular pressure (IOP) was comparedbetween the patients receiving combinative therapy andpatients receiving drops only. RESULTS: Totally 596 patients and 1057 eyes(Combinative-Therapy group 493 and Drop-Only group 564)were included in this study. Using combination therapyreduced the relative risk of postoperative inflammationby 26.9% (16.6% Combinative-Therapy vs 22.7% Drop-Only, P=0.013). The incidence of endophthalmitis was 0in Combinative-Therapy group vs 0.5% in Drop-Only group(relative risk reduction 100%), although not statisticallysignificant (P=0.10). The incidence of severe IOP spikeswas not significantly different between Combinative-Therapy (2.4%) and Drop-Only (1.6%) groups (P=0.33).The relative risk of postoperative CME was 51.4% less inthree months follow up visit in Combinative-Therapy group,although not statistically significant (P=0.07). The visualoutcome 1-month postop. (best corrected visual acuity) wassignificantly better in Combinative-Therapy (logMAR 0.10)compared to Drop-Only (logMAR 0.14) groups (P=0.02) whilethe baseline visual acuity was not significantly different. CONCLUSION: The combinative approach oftranszonular triamcinolone-moxifloxacin plus perioperativeeyedrops is an effective method to minimize postoperativeinflammation, with better visual outcomes. It couldpotentially reduce the risk of postoperative endophthalmitisand CME (near-significant P-values;larger studies couldanalyze better considering low incidence).

Conservation of endangered sympatric species must be carefully executed to ensure that the protection of one species does not negatively impact the survival of another. Critically endangered Pecos gambusia Gambusia nobilis and Leon Springs pupfish Cyprinodon bovinus, which are endemic to a threatened desert spring habitat, exemplify one such scenario. Recently, this habitat has been expanded, and captively bred C. bovinus were released to repopulate an area historically known to contain this species. A previous study suggested that G. nobilis are detrimental to C. bovinus populations, due to their tendency to congregate near spawning pairs and feed on their eggs. Whether G. nobilis are attracted to territorial C. bovinus, regardless of spawning behavior, remains unclear. To determine this, the number of G. nobilis in occupied and unoccupied breeding territories of both wild and captively bred C. bovinus was measured. Gambusia nobilis densities were similar between unoccupied and occupied territorial sites, suggesting that they do not show a preference for C. bovinus territories. Regardless of habitat location or prior captivity, territorial C. bovinus significantly excluded G. nobilis within their direct vicinity （5 cm）, but not from their entire territory. Decreased G. nobilis density within the habitat may allow C. bovinus to defend their breeding territories more readily during the summer spawning season. This study provides empirical evidence of captively raised individuals behaving similarly to wild indi- viduals upon reintroduction to their natural habitat and support for conservation methods that focus on common limiting factors between endangered species [Current Zoology 60 （4）： 527-533, 2014].

Ascites is not an uncommon manifestation of certain solid tumors like gastrointestinal malignancies, ovarian cancer and breast cancer. However, it is unusual to encounter ascites in patients with hematological malignancies especially chronic leukemia. The patient described here presented with massive ascites and blood lymphocytosis. Further studies confirmed the diagnosis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia with ascites. The ascitic fluid was exudative, consisting of mature-looking B-lymphocytes, which were morphologically and immunophenotypically similar to peripheral blood and bone marrow cells. The patient was treated with chemotherapy and achieved a good response and diminution of ascitic fluid accumulation.

Data on the presence of organophosphate esters(OPEs)in drinking water and its significance as a pathway of exposure are *** this study,we measure for the first time,concentrations of eight OPEs in 50 UK drinking water *** mean concentrations of ∑8OPEs were:6.4 and 11 ng/L in bottled(n=25)and tap water samples(n=25),*** of ∑8OPEs in tap water(mean:11 ng/L)exceed significantly those in bottled water(mean:6.4 ng/L)(p˂0.01).Moreover,UK tap water is more contaminated with chlorinated,aryl-,and alkyl-OPEs than bottled *** predominant OPEs detected were:tris(butoxyethyl)phosphate(TBOEP),tris(2-chloroethyl)phosphate(TCEP),and tris(2-chloroisopropyl)phosphate(TCIPP)with arithmetic mean concentrations in the two water sample types ranging between(3.5e3.8 ng/L),(0.60-3.0 ng/L),and(1.02-2.9 ng/L),*** daily intakes(EDIs)(mean and high-end exposure)via drinking water for different sectors of the UK population were:infants(0.93 and 6.4 ng/kg bw/day)˃toddlers(0.46 and 3.1 ng/kg bw/day)˃children(0.35 and 2.3 ng/kg bw/day)˃adults(0.28 and 2.1 ng/kg bw/day).Based on these data,exposure to ∑8OPEs via drinking water is much lower than via:food,indoor dust ingestion,inhalation,and dermal uptake for adults and ***,our EDIs were lower than relevant reference dose(RfD)***,combining our drinking water ingestion data with exposure via other pathways revealed overall exposure to 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate(EHDPP)and TCIPP to approach health-based limit values for UK toddlers under a high-end exposure scenario.

Curcumin aqueous extract is used successfully as a green corrosion inhibitor at quasi-cooking conditions (90℃) to inhibit leaching from aluminum cook wares in solutions containing vegetables or meat. aluminum cook wares were bought from the market from four countries and cut to make the aluminum samples. Six types of vegetables and three kinds of meat were chosen. Each type of vegetable and meat was used to prepare 30% w/v aqueous solutions. Three methods were used in the present study: Gravimetric method, Atomic Absorption and FTIR. Gravimetric method was applied to determine the leaching rate and the corrosion inhibition efficiency with/without NaCl. The effect of Curcumin concentration, Tab water, immersion time, alloying elements was investigated. There was a good consistency between Gravimetric and Atomic Absorption methods. The adsorption of Curcumin on the aluminum surface was in accordance with Langmuir isotherm. The values of the adsorption constant (Kads) and the free energy of adsorption (Gadso) were calculated and discussed. FTIR spectrum indicated that Curcumin coordinated with al3+ resulting in the formation of al3+-Curcumin complex on the metal surface. Using a small amount of Curcumin decreased leaching from aluminum cook wares into food by 60% - 80% depending about the type of food.

The immune checkpoints,cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated antigen 4(CTLA-4) and programmed cell death protein-1/ligand-1(PD-1/PD-L1) are vital contributors to immune resulation and *** immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs) have revolutionized cancer therapy;however,they come with the cost of immune related adverse events involving multiple organs such as the *** to its constant expo sure to foreign antigens,the liver has evolved a high capacity for immune tolerance,therefore,blockade of the immune checkpoints can result in aberrant immune activation affecting the liver in up to 20% of patients depending on the agent(s) used and underlying *** type of hepatotoxicity is termed immune mediated liver injury from checkpoint inhibitors(ILICI) and is more common when CTLA4 and PD-1/PDL1 are used in *** underlying mechanisms of this unique type of hepatotoxicity are not fully understood;however,the contribution of CD8^(+) cytotoxic T lymphocytes,various CD4^(+) T cells populations,cytokines,and the secondary activation of the innate immune system leading to liver injury have all been *** review summarizes our current understanding of the underlying mechanisms of liver injury in immunotherapy using animal models of ILICI and available patient data from clinical studies.

Baking meat by wrapping them in aluminum (al) foil is common in many countries. The excessive use of al foil in baking and the disagreement about using al foils were the motivation to do this study especially after the 2007 WHO/FDA Report. In this investigation, a gravimetric and a UV-Vis spectrophotometric method are used to estimate aluminum (al) leaching into meat baked by wrapping in al foil. Three kinds of meat were used fish, cow stakes and chicken. The importance of al exposure area was neglected by many studies. Five factors affecting al leaching into meat are studied (baking temperature, baking time, additives, al exposure area and weight of meat). The effect of cooking times (20, 40, 60 minutes) at 180℃ and cooking temperatures (160℃, 180℃, 200℃) at 60 minutes on the amount of al leaching were evaluated. It was found that al leaching into meat increased with increasing temperature, baking time, additives and al exposure area. Moreover, al exposure area was more effective than the weight of the meat. The al leaching was highest in fish and lowest in chicken. Comparing the present results with the Provisional Tolerance Weekly Intake of al approved by WHO/FDA, it shows that al leaching into meat baked by wrapping in al foil may add considerable doses into the diet. Continuous monitoring of al foil used for baking meat is recommended.
