Objective： The complexity, heterogeneity and capacity of malignant neoplastic cells and tumors for rapid change and evolution suggest that living-cell-based biological-systems approaches to cancer treatment are merited. Testing this hypothesis, the tumor marker, metabolic activity, and overall survival（Os） responses, to the use of one such system, implantable macrobeads [RENCA macrobeads（RMBs）], in phase I and IIa clinical trials in advanced,treatment-resistant metastatic colorectal cancer（m CRC） are described ***： Forty-eight m CRC patients（30 females; 18 males）, who had failed all available, approved treatments,underwent RMB implantation（8 RMB/kg body weight） up to 4 times in phase I and phase IIa open-label ***, labs [tumor and inflammation markers, lactate dehydrogenase（LDH）] and positron emission tomography-computed tomography（PET-CT） imaging to measure number/volume and metabolic activity of the tumors were performed pre-and 3-month-post-implantation to evaluate safety and initial efficacy（as defined by biological responses）. PET-CT maximum standard uptake value（sUVmax）（baseline and d 90; sUVmax ≥2.5）, LDH,and carcinoembryonic antigen（CEA） and/or cancer antigen 19-9（CA 19-9） response（baseline, d 30 and/or d 60）were assessed and compared to ***： Responses after implantation were characterized by an at least 20% decrease in CEA and/or CA 19-9 in75% of patients. Fluorodeoxyglucose（FDG）-positive lesions（phase I, 39; 2 a, 82） were detected in 37/48 evaluable patients, with 35% stable volume and stable or decreased sUV（10） plus four with necrosis; 10, increased tumor volume, sUV. LDH levels remained stable and low in Responders（R）（d 0–60, 290.4–333.9）, but increased steadily in Non-responders（NR）（d 0–60, 382.8–1,278.5）（d 60, P=0.050）. Responders to RMBs, indicated by the changes in the above markers, correlated with Os（R mean Os=10.76 months; NR mean Os=4.9 months; P=0.0006）.Conclusions： The correlations of the tumor marker, tumor volume

solid oxide fuel cells based on doped cefia electrolytes offer operating temperatures of -600℃. During recent years much atten- tion was aimed at successful powder preparation with high sinter activity and high conductivity. The properties of ceria electrolyte are very sensitive to impurities introduced during powder and electrolyte fabrication. One of the most successful and commercially available processes for the production of clean powders is based on the addition of several percent metallic cations that will react with impurities and segregate into the triple points of grain boundaries. In this work the results obtained from doping of CGO20 by 2% Ca and prepared by different routes were presented. The way of introducing Ca seemed to play an important role.

Cloud-based robotics systems leverage a wide range of Information Technologies(IT)to offer tangible benefits like cost reduction,powerful computational capabilities,data offloading,***,the centralized nature of cloud computing is not well-suited for a multitude of Operational Technologies(OT)nowadays used in robotics systems that require strict real-time guarantees and *** computing and fog computing are complementary approaches that aim at mitigating some of these challenges by providing computing capabilities closer to the *** goal of this work is hence threefold:i)to analyze the current edge computing and fog computing landscape in the context of robotics systems,ii)to experimentally evaluate an end-to-end robotics system based on solutions proposed in the literature,and iii)to experimentally identify current benefits and open challenges of edge computing and fog *** show that,in the case of an exemplary delivery application comprising two mobile robots,the robot coordination and range can be improved by consuming real-time radio information available at the ***,our evaluation highlights that the existing software,wireless and virtualization technologies still require substantial evolution to fully support edge-based robotics systems.

A novel Epstein-Barr virus subtype associated with nasopharyngeal carcinoma found in south China

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC)is a unique malignancy closely associated with Epstein-Barr virus(EBV)infection and with a restricted geographical distribution[1].According to a recent World Health Organization(WHO)report,there were around 129,000 new NPC cases reported worldwide in 2018 with greater than 70%of cases in south China and southeast Asia[2].In Hong Kong and Guangdong in south China,NPC incidence is as high as 12.8-25.0/100,000 per year[1,2].

The special November and December issues of the Chinese Journal of Cancer celebrate the 50th anniversary of the discovery of Epstein-Barr virus(EBV) with a series of reviews covering the association of the virus with various cancers, with special emphasis on the role of EBV in the pathogenesis of nasopharyngeal cancer(NPC). The restricted geographic prevalence of NPC along with the tumor's consistent association with EBV infection has fascinated scientists and clinicians ever since it was first suggested in 1966. As in all cancers, NPC development reflects the complex interplay between host genes and environmental factors, but the essential role of EBV infection provides important insight into the etiology of this tumor. Indeed, it is this understanding that is now translating into exciting diagnostic and therapeutic opportunities.

Iterative signal reconstruction of deliberately clipped sMT signals

staggered MultiTone(sMT)is a modulation technique showing significantly reduced Adjacent Channel Leakage Ratio(ACLR)resulting in a more compact Power spectrum Density(PsD)for the transmitted signal,than the well-known and already widely adopted Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access(OFDMA)***,the unique spectral properties of an sMT signal could be degraded by a non-linear element(e.g.a Power Amplifier(PA))in the *** baseband clipping can be applied to the transmitted signal,reducing the notable high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio(PAPR).The objective of this paper is to give a brief introduction to the sMT scheme,with a special emphasis on deliberate clipping efects and their *** paper introduces two receiver-oriented iterative methods aiming at the restoration of the baseband Bit Error Rate(BER)performance of a non-clipped *** methods are evaluated and compared based on numerical *** paper concludes with the selection of a possible candidate for use in systems applying deliberately clipped sMT signals.

since its discovery 50 years ago,Epstein-Barr virus(EBV)has been linked to the development of cancers originating from both lymphoid and epithelial *** 95%of the world’s population sustains an asymptomatic,life-long infection with *** virus persists in the memory B-cell pool of normal healthy individuals,and any disruption of this interaction results in virus-associated B-cell *** association of EBV with epithelial cell tumors,specifically nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC)and EBVpositive gastric carcinoma(EBV-GC),is less clear and is currently thought to be caused by the aberrant establishment of virus latency in epithelial cells that display premalignant genetic *** the precise role of EBV in the carcinogenic process is currently poorly understood,the presence of the virus in all tumor cells provides opportunities for developing novel therapeutic and diagnostic *** study of EBV and its role in carcinomas continues to provide insight into the carcinogenic process that is relevant to a broader understanding of tumor pathogenesis and to the development of targeted cancer therapies.

strategies for creating living, additively manufactured, open-cellular metal and alloy implants by promoting osseointegration,osteoinduction and vascularization: An overview

Additive manufacturing of porous, open-cellular metal or alloy implants, fabricated by laser or electron beam melting of a powder bed, is briefly reviewed in relation to optimizing biomechanical compatibility by assuring elastic(Young's) modulus matching of proximate bone, along with corresponding pore sizes assuring osseointegration and vasculature development and migration. In addition, associated, requisite compressive and fatigue strengths for such implants are described. strategies for optimizing osteoblast(bone cell) development and osteoinduction as well as vascularization of tissue in 3 D scaffolds and tissue engineering constructs for bone repair are reviewed in relation to the biology of osteogenesis and neovascularization in bone, and the role of associated growth factors, bone morphogenic proteins, signaling molecules and the like. Prospects for infusing hydrogel/collagen matrices containing these cellular and protein components or surgically extracted intramedullary(bone marrow) concentrate/aspirate containing these biological and cell components into porous implants are discussed, as strategies for creating living implants, which over the long term would act as metal or alloy scaffolds.

Linear Bayes Estimators Applied to the Inverse Gaussian Lifetime Model

For the two-parameter inverse Gaussian distribution denoted by IG（μ,A）, the authors employ a linear Bayes procedure to estimate the parameters μ and A. The superiority of the proposed linear Bayes estimator （LBE） over both the classical UMVUE and the maximum likelihood estimator （MLE） is established in terms of the mean squared error matrix （MsEM） criterion. Compared with the usual Bayes estimator, which is obtained by an MCMC method, the proposed LBE is simple and easy to use. some numerical results are presented to verify that the LBE performs well.
