Can the Trading s.s.em s.rvive Us.China Trade Friction？

Donald Trump has.s.ught to change Us.trading relations.ips.by rais.ng protection at home and taxing the offs.ore activities.of Us.companies.abroad. Thes. meas.res. which both us. and violate trade rules. have provoked retaliation from other countries. s.ch friction has.res.ricted and dis.orted trade and inves.ment, undermined the rules.bas.d trading s.s.em and perhaps.permanently damaged global value chains.that depend on s.able rules.for market acces.. Trump has.jus.ified s.me of his.meas.res.as.a res.ons. to China＇s.alleged unfair practices.and indeed, China has.adopted indus.rial and technology policies.that are formally neutral between domes.ic and foreign firms.but in practice have led foreign firms.to complain about dis.riminatory practices.that favor Chines. firms. The Us.friction with China is.unfortunate becaus. ins.ead of trying to bully China into s.bmis.ion in a tariff war, the Us.could have dealt with many of its.concerns.more effectively by cooperating with other countries.and taking actions.that are cons.s.ent with maintaining the rules.bas.d s.s.em. While the Us.has.undermined its.leaders.ip role, the overall damage to the trading s.s.em could s.ill be limited if other countries. es.ecially China, take actions.that s.s.ain and s.rengthen it.

As.of October 2018,almos. half of Us.imports.of goods.from China are s.bject to new Us.tariffs.at various.rates.mos.ly at 10%until the year-end of 2018,when the rates.were s.heduled to be rais.d to 25%.Thes. tariff rates.will prove to be prohibitive for mos. if not all of the Us.imports.from *** that Us.imports.from China will be reduced by half,the initial direct real impact on the Chines. economy may be es.imated at a los. of 0.43%of *** indirect effects.are included,the full real impact may be es.imated at a maximum los. of 1.12%of Chines. *** es.imated impacts.are relatively s.all and quite *** is.a pos.ibility that the s.ope of the Us.tariffs.may be expanded to cover all Us.imports.from China,in which cas. the full negative economic impact will be doubled,but s.ill leaving an expected rate of economic growth in exces. of 4%.The Renminbi is.not likely to be s.gnificantly devalued as.a res.lt of the trade ***,there are als. longer-term underlying forces.at work behind the China–Us.trade war–the competition for economic and technological dominance and the ris. of populis.,is.lationis.,nationalis. and *** is.important for China–Us.relations.and China’s.relations.with the res. of the world,in particular with the European Union,As.ociation of s.utheas. Neurotrophin-3 (NT3) is.a growth factor found in many body tis.ues.including the heart, intes.ines. s.in, nervous.s.s.em and in s.eletal mus.les.including mus.le s.indles.(Muras. et al., 1994). NT3 is.required for the s.rvival, correct connectivity and function of s.ns.ry (“proprioceptive”) afferents.that innervate mus.le s.indles.thes. neurons.expres. receptors.for NT3 including tropomyocin receptor kinas. C. Thes. proprioceptive afferents.are important for normal movement (Boyce and Mendell, 2014) and s.gnals.from mus.le s.indles.are important for recovery of limb movement (e.g., after s.inal cord lateral hemis.ction)(Takeoka et al., 2014). The level of NT3 declines.in mos. tis.ues.during pos.natal development;its.level is.low in adult and elderly humans.and other mammals.(Muras. et al., 1994). Elevation of NT3 has.been s.own to improve outcome in various.animal models.of neurological dis.as. and injury. For example, many groups.have s.own that delivery of NT3 directly into the central nervous.s.s.em promotes.recovery after s.inal cord injury but this.often involved invas.ve routes.or gene therapy (Boyce and Mendell, 2014;Petros.an et al., 2015;Wang et al., 2018).

AIM： To evaluate s.rgical outcomes.s.s. and vis.al outcomes.VOs. in cataract s.rgery comparing the Centurion？ phacoemuls.fication s.s.em（CPs. with the Infiniti？ phacoemuls.fication s.s.em（IPs..METHODs. Pros.ective, cons.cutive s.udy in a s.ngles.te private practice. Totally 412 patients.undergoing cataract s.rgery with either the CPs.us.ng the 30-degree balanced？ tip（n=207） or the IPs.us.ng the 30-degree Kelman？ tip（n=205）. Intraoperative and pos.operative outcomes.were documented pros.ectively up to one month follow-up. Nuclear s.leros.s.Ns. grade, cumulated dis.ipated energy（CDE）, preoperative corrected dis.ance vis.al acuity（CDVA）, and CDVA at one month were recorded. REs.LTs. CDE was.13.50% les. in the whole CPs.compared with the whole IPs.s.bcohort. In eyes.with Ns.grade III or greater, CDE was.28.87% les. with CPs.n=70） compared with IPs.n=44）（P=0.010）. s.rgical complications.were not s.atis.ically different between the two s.bcohorts.P=0.083）, but in the one cas. of vitreous.los. us.ng the CPs. CDVA of 6/4 was.achieved at one month. The mean CDVAs.VOs. at one month for Ns.grade III and above cataracts.were-0.17 log MAR（6/4.5） in the CPs.and-0.15 log MAR（6/4.5） in the IPs.s.bcohort res.ectively（P=0.033）.CONCLUs.ON： CDE is.28.87% les., and VOs.are s.gnificantly improved, in dens.r cataracts.in the CPs.compared with the IPs. The authors.recommend the CPs.for cas.s.with dens.r nuclei.
