The m.in objective of this study was to com.are the results obtained with both virtual and experim.ntal research m.thods, when the biom.chanical behavior of teeth restored with esthetic posts was investigated. The finite elem.nt m.thod was used to develop m.dels of healthy m.xillary canines and m.xillary canines restored with definitive crowns and glass-fiber posts, quartzfiber posts, and titanium.posts. Stress distribution was observed when external loads were applied. Load was applied in-vitro to analyse the fracture resistance of 48 m.xillary canines restored in the sam. way as it was considered in the virtual m.thod. The analysis of results using the finite elem.nt m.thod led to the conclusion that restored teeth, in which the elastic m.dulus of the post was sim.lar to that of the dentine and the m.terial of the core had the best biom.chanical perform.nce. The experim.ntal study validated the virtual analysis.

The intrinsic affinity of DNA m.lecules toward m.tallic ions can drive the specific form.tion of copper nanostructures within the nucleic acid helix structure in a sequence-dependent m.nner. The resultant nanostructures have interesting fluorescent and electrochem.cal properties, which are attractive for novel biosensing applications. However, the potential of using DNA-tem.lated nano- structures for precision disease diagnosis rem.ins unexplored. Particularly, DNA- tem.lated nanostructures show high potential for the universal am.lification-free detection of different RNA biom.rker species. Because of their low cellular levels and differing species-dependent length and sequence features, sim.ltaneous detection of different m.ssenger RNAs, m.croRNAs, and long non-coding RNAs species with a single technique is challenging. Here, we report a contem.orary technique for facile in situ assem.ly of DNA-tem.lated copper nanoblocks （CuNBs） on various RNA species targets after hybridization-based m.gnetic isolation. Our approach circum.ents the typical lim.tations associated with am.lification and labeling procedures of current RNA assays. The synthesized CuNBs enabled am.lification-free fm.level RNA detection with flexible fluorescence or electrochem.cal readouts. Furtherm.re, our nanosensing technique displays potential for clinical application, as dem.nstrated by non-invasive analysis of three diagnostic RNA biom.rkers from.a cohort of 10 prostate cancer patient urinary sam.les with 100%-concordance （quantitative reverse transcription- polym.rase chain reaction （PCR） validation）. The good analytical perform.nce and versatility of our m.thod m.y be useful in both diagnostics and research fields.

Recently there has been a growing trend to encourage learning outside the classroom., socalled ＇universities without walls.＇ To this end, m.chanism. for learning beyond the boundaries of classroom.settings can provide enhanced and challenging learning opportunities. This paper introduces Appreciative Inquiry （AI） as a m.chanism.that integrates various form. of inquiry into learning. AI is operationalized as a Walking Tour assessm.nt project which was introduced as part of the class Cultural end Beheviourel Fectors in Architecture and Urbanism.delivered at the Departm.nt of Architecture, University of Strathclyde - Glasgow where thirty-two m.ster of Architecture students were enrolled. The Walking Tour assessm.nt involved the exploration of 6 factors that delineate key design characteristics in three retrofitted buildings in Glasgow： Theatre Royal, Reid Building, and The Lighthouse. Working in groups, students assessed factors that included context, m.ssing, interface, wayfinding, socio-spatial, and com.ort. Findings reveal that students were able to focus on critical issues that go beyond those adopted in traditional teaching practices while accentuating the value of introducing AI and utilizing the built environm.nt as an educational m.dium. Conclusions are drawn to em.hasize the need for structured learning experiences that enable m.king judgm.nts about building qualities while effectively interrogating various characteristics.

Seed dispersal by exotic m.m.als exem.lifies m.tualistic interactions that can m.dify the habitat by facilitating the establishm.nt of certain species. We exam.ned the potential for endozoochoric dispersal of exotic plants by Callosciurus erythraeus introduced in the Pam.as Region of Argentina. We identified and characterized entire and dam.ged seeds found in squirrel faeces and evaluated the germ.nation capacity and viability of entire seeds in laboratory assays. We collected 120 sam.les of squirrel faeces that contained 883 pellets in seasonal surveys conducted between July 2011 and June 2012 at 3 study sites within the m.in invasion focus of C. erythraeus in Argentina. We found 226 entire seeds in 21% of the sam.les belonging to 4 species of exotic trees and shrubs. Germ.nation in laboratory assays was recorded for m.rus alba and Casuarina sp.; however, germ.nation percentage and rate was higher for seeds obtained from.the fruits than for seeds obtained from.the faeces. The largest size of entire seeds found in the faeces was 4.2 ~ 4.0 ram. whereas the dam.ged seeds had at least 1 dim.nsion ≥ 4.7 ram. Our results indi- cated that C. erythraeus can disperse viable seeds of at least 2 species of exotic trees. C. erythraeus predated seeds of other naturalized species in the region. The m.rphom.tric description suggested a restriction on the m.xim.m.size for the passage of entire seeds through the digestive tract of squirrels, which provides useful inform.tion to predict its role as a potential disperser or predator of other species in other invaded com.unities.

Storm.ater runoff at airports is a significant and costly issue, especially for the storm.ater laden with deicing contam.nants of high Biochem.cal Oxygen Dem.nd （BOD） and aquatic toxicity. To reduce the loading of deicing constituents in storm.ater and to m.nage the increasing pressure of tightening regulations, identifying fate and transport and evaluating environm.ntal risks of deicing storm.ater are of critical im.ortance. In this review, the regulatory developm.nt of airport deicing storm.ater m.nagem.nt was first discussed, along with the m.lestone Airport Cooperative Research Program.（ACRP） Report 14 publication. The deicer usage and fugitive losses can be reduced and the am.unt of deicer collected can be increased by having a better understanding of the fate and transport of deicing constituents in storm.ater. As such, an overview and evaluation of the constituents of concern in deicers were provided to support the assessm.nt of environm.ntal im.acts and m.tigation recom.endations. The state of knowledge of airport deicing storm.ater m.nagem.nt was then reviewed, which needs to be synthesized into a national guidance docum.nt. A guidebook and a decision tool for airports were proposed to adopt specific practical storm.ater m.nagem.nt strategies while balancing their priorities in environm.ntal, econom.c, and social values against operational constraints. These challenges pose great opportunities to im.rove the current practices of airport deicing storm.ater m.nagem.nt.
