Morphological and biochemical effects of weekend alcohol consumption in rats: Role of concentration and gender

AIM To examine the association between weekend alcohol consumption and the biochemical and histological alterations at two different concentrations of alcohol in both genders in *** Wistar rats weighing 170-200 g were divided into groups as follows:(1) Control groups; and(2) weekend alcohol-consumption group: 2 d/weekly per 12 wk, at two different concentrations:(1) Group of males or females with a consumption of a solution of alcohol at 40%; and(2) group of males or females with a consumption of a solution of alcohol at 5%. At the end of the experiment, serum and liver samples were obtained. The following enzymes and metabolites were determined in serum: Alanine Aminotransferase(AlT), Aspartate Aminotransferase(AST), lactate Dehydrogenase, and Gamma-Glutamyltransferase, and glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, bilirubin, and albumin. liver samples from each group were employed to analyze morphological abnormalities by light *** In all of the weekend alcohol-consumption groups, AST activity presented a significant, 10-fold rise. Regarding AlT activity, the groups with weekend alcohol consumption presented a significant increase that was six times greater. Bilirubin levels increased significantly in both groups of females. We observed a significant increase in the parameters of fatty change and inflammation due to weekend alcohol consumption. Only the group of females that consumed alcohol at 40% presented slight hepatocel ular disorganization CONClUSION The results obtained herein provide solid evidence that weekend alcohol consumption gives rise to liver damage, demonstrated by biochemical and histological alterations, first manifested acutely, and prolonged weekend alcohol consumption can cause greater, irreversible damage.

Central nervous system(CNS)injuries and neurodegenerative diseases show a broad spectrum of common pathophysiological processes,including oxidative stress,neuroinflammation,excitotoxicity,demyelination and neurotransmission *** the past decades,valuable experimental investigations have helped to clarify the role and timing of these multiple molecular and cellular mechanisms in each of these particular disorders,which usually overlap and critically contribute to long-term ***,up to now,no definite cures or effective disease-modifying therapies are available for any of these *** has led to an active search of novel therapeutic approaches,including the repositioning of existing drugs for new indications,as a valid approach to promptly move candidate molecules to clinical trials.

Current status and trends of carbon-based electrodes for fully solution-processed perovskite solar cells

Perovskite solar cells(PSCs) have revolutionized photovoltaic research. As a result, a certified power conversion efficiency(PCE) of 25.5% was recorded in late 2020. Although this efficiency is comparable with silicon solar cells;some issues remain partially unsolved, such as lead toxicity, instability of perovskite materials under continuous illumination, moisture and oxygen, and degradation of the metallic counter electrodes. As an alternative to tackle this last concern, carbon materials have been recently used, due to their good electrical and thermal conductivity, and chemical stability, which makes them one of the most promising materials to replace metallic counter electrodes in the fabrication of PSCs. This review highlights the recent advances of carbon-based PSCs, where the carbon electrode(CE) is the main *** have become very promising candidates for PSCs;they are mainly fabricated using a simple combination of graphite and carbon black powders embedded in a binder matrix, giving a paste that is then solution-processable, resulting in devices with improved quality stability, when compared to metallic electrodes. In this review, CE’s composition is emphasized, since it can give both, high and lowtemperature processed electrodes, compatible with different device configurations. Finally, the tendencies and opportunities to use CE in PSCs devices are presented.

Telencephalic stab wound injury induces regenerative angiogenesis and neurogenesis in zebrafish:unveiling the role of vascular endothelial growth factor signaling and microglia

Fertilizers industry faces the challenge of improving the efficiency of its products either by optimizing the fertilizers in use or by developing new types of *** the last decade,controlled and slow release technologies have become more *** technologies aim to increase the efficiency of the applied substance by increasing its action over time and avoiding losses of all kinds(leaching,volatilization).The main purpose of the current study was to obtain a slow release biofertilizer by incorporating microalgae into a polymeric urea-formaldehyde matrix(PUFM).The quantitative analysis of macronutrients and micronutrients in the microalgae was determined using different techniques including titration,UV and Atomic Adsorption *** matrix and the formulation obtained(PUFM+CHlO)were also characterized by Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR)and Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM).The“in vitro”study showed a typical slow release behavior of nitrogen(N),phosphorus(P)and potassium(K)*** was also shown that(PUFM+CHlO)formulation has the slowest macronutrients release time with a maximum release of 28%,26%y 46%for(N-P-K)macronutrients respectively during a period of 30 ***"in vivo"study exposed the benefits of the biofertilizer formulation(PUFM+CHlO)from conventional commercial fertilizer(CF)(NPK-14-5-12).Due to the presence of nutrients of natural origin in microalgae,(PUFM+CHlO)shows ecological effects which could also developing sustainable agriculture systems.

Temporal dynamics of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy injuries on magnetic resonance imaging
