Galectin-3 (Gal-3) in oligodendrocyte (OLG) differentiation: OLGs are the cells in charge of myelination in the central nervous system (CNS), allowing rapid conduction of the neural action potential and giving trophic support to axons. OLGs undergo a series of changes throughout their life cycle: first, upon neural stem cell comm让ment to the OLG lineage, cells referred to as OLG precursor cells (OPC) present a bipolar morphology, have proliferative and migratory capacity and express molecular markers like platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha and neural/glial antigen 2.

Hot recycling of reclaimed asphalt pavement(RAP)from replacement of deteriorated asphalt pavements is a widespread technique,and able to ensure clear economic and environmental *** this reason,paving industries,agencies and researchers are spending significant efforts in order to maximize such advantages by increasing the amount of RAP within new asphalt ***,adequate performance of recycled mixtures must be guaranteed despite the re-use of high amounts of RAP which involves the presence of aged,oxidized and stiffened *** this perspective,the present study aimed at evaluating the rheological properties at mid-service and high-service temperatures of bituminous blends composed by 40%of virgin binder and 60%of aged rejuvenated bitumen(simulating the aged hard bitumen coming from the RAP).Such proportion was selected to represent a high recycling rate of RAP(about 60%of the total weight of aggregates,RAP included).A chemical commercial additive at the liquid state was selected as rejuvenator;it was dosed at the optimum content based on empirical and rheological preliminary *** performance of the recycled blend was then compared to that of a virgin reference *** shear rheometer tests were carried out to determine the master curves and the failure characteristics(at mid and high service temperatures)of the selected *** effect of aging(related to the durability over the material lifetime)was also studied analyzing binders’responses in unaged,shortterm and long-term aged ***,experimental findings demonstrated the efficacy of the rejuvenation of recycled binders containing very high amount of aged bitumen.

Aims Silvicultural management plays a major role in shaping understory diversity through its action on stand *** many parts of Europe,recent socioeconomic changes have led to the progressive abandonment of coppicing in favor of high forest(HF)*** order to examine how this change impacts understory species,we compared old coppice-with-standards and HF stands in terms of structural features and understory richness and composition,also taking into account the diagnostic species pool of the *** the management systems for coppices and HFs differ in cutting regime,we expect that they would cause different changes in floristic composition and *** The study area was the Montagne della Duchessa massif,in central *** differences and floristic richness were compared,and the diagnostic species diversity was analyzed using rarefaction curves and Rényi diversity *** in understory com-position were analyzed through indicator species *** Findings Our results showed that,though the old coppices have a slightly higher number of understory species in general,the HF stands have greater mean species richness in both understory and diagnostic species,the latter being more evenly distributed inside the *** finding were related to the cut regime,which favor a constant canopy cover over time and thus the maintenance of more stable microclimatic conditions,promoting the higher abundance and evenness of shade-tolerant and vernal ***,the dense canopy of the old coppice appears to affect the understory richness by reducing the presence of light-demanding species,but still without a complete recolonization of the shade-tolerant ***,our findings provide the first insights supporting that,in a Mediterranean montane context,old coppice conversion to HF could over time improve the species diversity in these habitats and help maintain good conservation status of the typical

AIM: To asses the value of computed tomography (CT)-perfusion in the detection of residual hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) vascularization after transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). METHODS: Thirty-two consecutive patients were pro-spectively included in this study. All patients had liver cirrhosis and a conf irmed HCC lesion which was treated with TACE. One month after treatment, perfusion measurements of treated lesions were carried out. The CTperfusion (CT-p) protocol was performed with 16 slice multidetector computed tomography which included the following parameters: 8 dynamic slices/scan per 40 scans after iv injection of 50 mL of iodinated contrast (350 mg/mL) at a flow rate of 6 mL/s. Treated lesions were evaluated using dedicated perfusion software, which generated a quantitative colour map of perfusion. The following parameters were considered: hepatic perfusion (HP), arterial perfusion (AP), blood volume (BV), hepatic perfusion index (HPI), and time to peak (TTP). Perfusion parameters were described with quartile values of their distribution and statistically analyzed. RESULTS: Perfusion parameters of the treated lesions could be quantitatively assessed using CT-p analysis. The presence of residual tumor tissue was observed in 13 of the 32 patients. The values of the perfusion parameters measured within the relapse tissue were: HP (mL/100 g per minute): median = 44.4 (1stqt = 31.3, 3rdqt = 55.8); BV (mL/100 g): median = 18.7 (1stqt = 11.5, 3rdqt = 22.5); AP (mL/min): median = 39.0 (1stqt = 36.5, 3rdqt = 61.3); HPI (%): median = 34.0 (1stqt = 30.4, 3rdqt = 38.9); TTP (s): median = 17.3 (1stqt = 15.8, 3rdqt = 26.5). With the use of the univariate paired Wilcoxon signed rank test, HP, AP and HPI were shown to be significantly higher (P<0.001) in the relapse site than in the primary lesion. Assisted reproductive technologies invoIving the use of spermatozoa and eggs for in vitro fertilization(IVF)have come as the solution for many infertile couples to become ***,in some cases,the use of ejaculated spermatozoa delivers poor IVF *** studies have suggested the use of testicular spermatozoa in severe male in fertility cases,but no guideli nes regarding their utilization are currently *** the present study,we found the mRNA protamine 1/protamine 2(P1/P2)ratio to be a valuable biomarker of poor sperm function that could be used as a diagnostic key for the identification of cases that would benefit from the use of testicular spermatozoa.A total of 23 couples undergoing egg donation cycles with at least one previous cycle failure were *** couples underwent two consecutive intracytoplasmic sperm injection(ICSI)cycles with either ejaculated or testicular spermatozoa(TESA).The sperm mRNA P1/P2 ratio,fertilization rate,blastocyst rate,and pregnancy and live birth rate were *** showed improved ICSI and clinical outcomes in cycles with testicular spermatozoa in men with altered mRNA P1/P2 *** cycles presented significantly higher rates of fertilization(mean±standard deviation:76.1%±15.1%vs 65.5%±18.8%),blastocyst formation(55.0%±20.3%vs 30.8%±23.8%),and good morphological quality blastocyst(28.9%±22.9%vs 13.5%±17.9%)and also improvements on pregnancy(60.9%vs 0%)and healthy birth rates(56.5%vs 0%)than EJACULATE *** results described here suggest that in patients with previous IVF/ICSI failures and aberrant mRNA protamine ratios,the use of testicular spermatozoa may be a good alternative to improve clinical outcomes.

Despite the great successes achieved in the fields of virology and diagnostics,several difficulties affect improvements in hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection control and eradication in the new *** HCV infections still occur,especially in some of the poorest regions of the world,where HCV is endemic and long-term sequelae have a growing economic and health *** HCV vaccine is still no available,despite years of researches and discoveries about the natural history of infection and host-virus interactions:several HCV vaccine candidates have been developed in the last years,targeting different HCV antigens or using alternative delivery systems,but viral variability and adaption ability constitute major challenges for vaccine *** new antiviral drugs for HCV therapy are in preclinical or early clinical development,but different limitations affect treatment *** predictors are important tools,as they provide some guidance for the management of therapy in patients with chronic HCV infection:in particular,the role of host genomics in HCV infection outcomes in the new era of direct-acting antivirals may evolve for new therapeutic targets,representing a chance for modulated and personalized treatment management,when also very potent therapies will be *** the present review we discuss the most recent data about HCV epidemiology,the new perspectives for the prevention of HCV infection and the most recent evidence regarding HCV diagnosis,therapy and predictors of response to it.
