In this paper,we provide two new Triassic palaeomagnetic poles from Winterswijk,the Netherlands,in the stable interior of the Eurasian *** were respectively collected from the Anisian(~247–242 Ma)red marly limestones of the sedimentary transition of the Buntsandstein Formation to the dark grey limestones of the basal Muschelkalk Formation,and from the Rhaetian(~208–201 Ma)shallow marine claystones that unconformably overlie the Muschelkalk *** magnetization is carried by hematite or magnetite in the Anisian limestones,and iron sulfides and magnetite in the Rhaetian sedimentary rocks,revealing for both a large normal polarity overprint with a recent(geocentric axial dipole field)direction at the present latitude of the *** field and thermal demagnetization occasionally reveal a stable magnetization decaying towards the origin,interpreted as the Characteristic Remanent *** we find a pervasive(normal polarity)overprint,we can often still determine well-defined great-circle *** interpreted palaeomagnetic poles include the great-circle *** Anisian magnetic pole has declination D±ΔDx=210.8±3.0°,inclination I±ΔIx=-26.7±4.9°,with a latitude,longitude of 45.0°,142.0°respectively,K=43.9,A95=2.9°,N=*** Rhaetian magnetic pole has declination D±ΔDx=32.0±8.7°,inclination I±ΔIx=50.9±8.1°,with a latitude,longitude of 60.6°,123.9°respectively,K=19.3,A95=7.4°,N=*** poles plot close to the predicted location of global apparent polar wander paths(GAPWa Ps)in Eurasian coordinates and are feasible for future apparent polar wander path *** confirm that the intracontinental,shallow-marine Germanic Basin,in which the Muschelkalk Formation was deposited,existed at a palaeolatitude of 14.1°[11.3,17.1]N,in a palaeo-environment reminding of the Persian Gulf *** Rhaetian times,palaeolatitudes of 31.6°[24.8,39.8]N were reached,on its way to the modern latitude of 52°N.

Association between dairy intake,lipids and vascular structure and function in diabetes

AIM To determine lipid species that change in response to a change in dairy consumption. In addition, to investigate whether dairy associated lipid species are correlated with changes in measures of vascular structure and *** A 12-mo randomised controlled trial was conducted to determine the effect of increased consumption of fruit, vegetables and dairy, compared to usual diet, on measures of vascular structure and function in adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes(n = 108). Thispaper comprises post-hoc analyses investigating the relationship between dairy intake, serum lipid species and vascular health. Central and peripheral blood pressure, carotid femoral pulse wave velocity, augmentation index, serum lipid species and dietary intake were measured at baseline and 3-mo. Common carotid artery intima media thickness was measured at baseline and *** Serum lipid species [lysophosphatidylcholine(LPC) 14:0, LPC 15:0, LPC 16:1, phosphatidylcholine(PC) 29:0 PC 30:0, PC 31:0 and cholesterol ester(CE) 14:0] were associated with the change in full fat dairy consumption(rho 0.19-0.25; P < 0.05). The 3-mo change in some lipids was positively associated with the 3-mo change in central systolic [LPC 14:0(rho 0.30; P = 0.007), PC 30:0(rho 0.28; P = 0.010)] and diastolic blood pressure [LPC 14:0(rho 0.32; P = 0.004), LPC 15:0(rho 0.23; P = 0.04), LPC 16:1(rho 0.23; P = 0.035), PC 29:0(rho 0.28; P = 0.01), PC 30:0(rho 0.36; P = 0.001), PC 31:0(rho 0.30; P = 0.007)] and 12-mo change in common carotid artery intimal medial thickness [CE 14:0(rho 0.22; P = 0.02)]. Pulse wave velocity and augmentation index were unrelated to dairy and lipid *** An increase in dairy associated lipids appears to be associated with an increase in blood pressure and common carotid intimal medial thickness.

Using the Urumqi 25 m radio telescope, sources from the first three months of the Fermi-large area telescope detected active galactic nuclei （AGN） catalog with a declination of 〉 0° were observed in 2009 at 4.8 GHz. The radio flux density ap- peared to correlate with the γ-ray intensity. Intra-day variability （IDV） observations were performed in March, April and May 2009 for 42 selected γ-ray bright blazars, and ~60% of them showed evidence of flux variability at 4.8 GHz during the IDV observations. The IDV detection rate was higher than that in previous flat-spectrum AGN samples. IDV appeared more often in the very long baseline interferometry-core dominant blazars, and the non-IDV blazars showed relatively ＂steeper＂ spectral in- dices than the IDV blazars. Pronounced inter-month variability was also found in two BL Lac objects： j0112＋2244 and j0238＋1636.

Tetrahedral amorphous carbon coatings have the potential to significantly reduce friction and wear between sliding ***,we provide atomistic insights into the evolution of the sliding interface between naked and hydrogen-passivated ta-C sliding partners under dry and lubricated *** reactive classical atomistic simulations we show that sliding induces a sp3 to sp2 rehybridization and that the shear resistance is reduced by hydrogen-passivation and hexadecane-lubrication-despite our finding that nanoscale hexadecane layers are not always able to separate and protect ta-C counter surfaces during *** asperities deform,carbon atoms within the hexadecane lubricant bind to the ta-C sliding partners resulting in degradation of the hexadecane molecules and in increased material intermixing at the sliding *** atoms from the passivation layer and from the hexadecane chains continue to be mixed within a sp2 rich sliding interface eventually generating a tribo-layer that resembles an a-C:H type of *** separation of the sliding partners,the tribo-couple splits within the newly formed sp2 rich a-C:H mixed layer with significant material transfer across the sliding *** leaves behind a-C:H coated ta-C surfaces with dangling C bonds,linear C chains and hydrocarbon fragments.

AIM:To develop and validate a case definition of eosinophilic esophagitis(EoE) in the linked Danish health ***:For case definition development,we queried the Danish medical registries from 2006-2007 to identify candidate cases of EoE in Northern *** International Classification of Diseases-10(ICD-10) and prescription codes were obtained,and archived pathology slides were obtained and re-reviewed to determine case *** used an iterative process to select inclusion/exclusion codes,refine the case definition,and optimize sensitivity and *** then re-queried the registries from 2008-2009 to yield a validation *** case definition algorithm was applied,and sensitivity and specificity were ***:Of the 51 and 49 candidate cases identified in both the development and validation sets,21 and 24 had EoE,*** of EoE cases in the development set [mean age 35 years;76% male;86% dysphagia;103 eosinophils per high-power field(eos/hpf)] were similar to those in the validation set(mean age 42 years;83% male;67% dysphagia;77 eos/hpf).Re-review of archived slides confirmed that the pathology coding for esophageal eosinophilia was correct in greater than 90% of *** registrybased case algorithms based on pathology,ICD-10,and pharmacy codes were successfully generated in the development set,one that was sensitive(90%) and one that was specific(97%).When these algorithms were applied to the validation set,they remained sensitive(88%) and specific(96%).CONCLUSION:Two registry-based definitions,one highly sensitive and one highly specific,were developed and validated for the linked Danish national health databases,making future population-based studies feasible.

AIM To evaluate the joint geometry and the clinical outcome of stemless, anatomical shoulder arthroplasty with the TESS *** Twenty-one shoulders with a mean follow-up 18 of months were included. On scaled digital radiographs the premorbid center of rotation(CoR) was assessed and compared to the CoR of the prosthesis by using the MediC AD~? software. Additionally, the pre-and post-operative geometry of the CoR was assessed in relation to the glenoid, the acromion as well as to the proximal humerus. Radiological changes, such as radiolucencies, were also assessed. Clinical outcome was assessed with the Constant and DASH score. RESULTS Both, the Constant and DASH scores improved signifi-cantly from 11% to 75% and from 70 to 30 points, P 0.05). The pre-and postoperative humeral offset, the lateral glenohumeral offset, the height of the CoR, the acromiohumeral distance as well as neckshaft angle showed no significant changes(P > 0.05). The mean deviation of the CoR of the prosthesis from the anatomic center was 1.0 ± 2.8 mm. Three cases showed a medial deviation of more than 3 mm. These deviations of 5.1, 5.7 and 7.6 mm and were caused by an inaccurate humeral neck cut. These 3 patients showed a relatively poor outcome *** TESS arthroplasty allows an anatomical joint reconstruction with a very good outcome. Outliers described in this study sensitize the surgeon for an accurate humeral neck cut.

In the past 20-30 years, developmental biologists have made tremendous progress in identifying genes required for the specifica-tion of individual cell types of an organ and in describing how they interact in genetic networks. In comparison, very little is known about the mechanisms that regulate tissue polarity and overall organ patterning. Gynoecia and fruits from members of the Brassicaceae family of flowering plants provide excellent model systems to study organ patterning and tissue specification because they become partitioned into distinct domains whose formation is determined by polarity establishment both at a cellular and whole tissue level. Interactions among key regulators of Arabidopsis gynoecium and fruit development have revealed a network of upstream transcription factor activities required for such tissue differentiation. Regulation of the plant hormone auxin is emerging as both an immediate downstream output and input of these activities, and here we aim to provide an overview of the current knowledge regarding the link between auxin and female reproductive development in plants. In this review, we will also demonstrate how available data can be exploited in a mathematical modeling approach to reveal and understand the feedback regulatory circuits that underpin the polarity establishment, necessary to guide auxin flows.

Interest in the nonlinear properties of multi-mode optical waveguides has seen a recent resurgence on account of the large dimensionality afforded by the platform. The large volume of modes in these waveguides provides a new spatial degree of freedom for phase matching nonlinear optical processes. However, this spatial dimension is quantized, which narrows the conversion bandwidths of intermodal processes and constrains spectral and temporal tailoring of the light. Here we show that by engineering the relative group velocity within the spatial dimension, we can tailor the phase-matching bandwidth of intermodal parametric nonlinearities. We demonstrate group-velocity-tailored parametric nonlinear mixing between higher-order modes in a multi-mode fiber with gain bandwidths that are more than an order of magnitude larger than that previously thought possible for intermodal four-wave mixing. As evidence of the technological utility of this methodology, we seed this process to generate the first high-peak-power wavelength-tunable all-fiber quasi-CW laser in the Ti:sapphire wavelength *** generally, with the combination of intermodal interactions, which dramatically expand the phase-matching degrees of freedom for nonlinear optics, and intermodal group-velocity engineering, which enables tailoring of the bandwidth of such interactions, we showcase a platform for nonlinear optics that can be broadband while being wavelength agnostic.

This study was conducted to verify the results of a preceding retrospective pilot study by means of a prospective controlled investigation including a larger sample size. Therefore, the aim of this clinical investigation was to analyze the relationship between sleep bruxism and several functional and occlusal parameters. The null hypothesis of this study was that there would be no differences among sleep bruxism subjects and non-sleep bruxism controls regarding several functional and occlusal parameters. Fifty-eight sleep bruxism subjects and 31 controls participated in this study. The diagnosis sleep bruxism was based on clinical criteria of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Sixteen functional and occlusal parameters were recorded clinically or from dental study casts. Similar to the recently published retrospective pilot study, with a mean slide of 0.77 mm （s.d., 0.69 mm） in the sleep bruxism group and a mean slide of 0.4 mm （s.d., 0.57 mm） in the control group, the evaluation of the mean comparison between the two groups demonstrated a larger slide from centric occlusion to maximum intercuspation in sleep bruxism subjects （Mann-Whitney U-test; P=O.O08）. However, following Bonferroni adjustment, none of the 16 occlusal and functional variables differed significantly between the sleep bruxism subjects and the non-sleep bruxism controls. The present study shows that the occlusal and functional parameters evaluated do not differ between sleep bruxism subjects and non-sleep bruxism subjects. However, as the literature reveals a possible association between bruxism and certain subgroups of temporomandibular disorders, it appears advisable to incorporate the individual adaptive caoacitv of the stomatognathic svstem into future investigations.
