Qigong in the treatment of children with autism spectrum disorder:A systematic review

Background: Autism spectrum disorder is a condition that affects all races, ethnic and socioeconomic groups. With a high incidenee ratio of one in every 68, it has become one of the most discussed psychiatric disorders. For this reason, the need for investigating novel treatments has been emerging. Qigong, a traditional Chinese mind-body technique, has already proven to be able to reduce symptoms of several physical and psychological illnesses. Objective: The purpose of this systematic review is to examine and categorize the current scientific evidence regarding the efficacy of Qigong on children suffering from autism spectrum disorders. Search strategy: A systematic literature search of the electronic scientific databases PubMed, Clinical ***, BioMed Central, PubMed Central and Google Scholar was performed to identify studies of Qigong in the treatment of children with autism spectrum disorder. Inclusion criteria: This review included randomized controlled trials, replication studies, retrospective studies and observational follow-up studies of Qigong on children with autism spectrum disorder. Case reports and case series were excluded. Data extraction and analysis: Two researchers independently evaluated the methodological quality of all included studies. Any discrepancies were solved by discussion until consensus was achieved. Results: Our literature search identified 157 publications, and 10 additional publications from hand search of references. After duplicate removal, 103 records remained. After the title/abstract screening, 19 publications were obtained for detailed evaluation. After detailed evaluation, 10 studies were included. Seven studies were conducted with small children with 2-6 years old employing Qigong massage, and three studies were con ducted with older children aged 7-17 years old applying both Qigong massage (one study) and Neigong (two studies). Spatial organization of multiple plant species that appears as a non-random distribution of vegetative patches is one of the mostly observed spatial patterns in arid ecosystems. Yet understanding of ecological processes allowing this spatial pattern to emerge through interspecific interactions is still lacking. With a proposed conceptual model involving interspecific trade-offs between species competitive ability and colonization ability, we have argued that within patch abundance dynamics regulated by the mechanisms of competition are strongly influenced by the between patches colonization dynamics that are maintained via this trade-offs and it holds a positive, intraspecific occupancy-abundance relationship, in which increased patch occupancy increases species density within inhabiting patches. In a constant environment, while local abundance dynamics approach toward a stable equilibrium point, a fixed spatial arrangement of species can be retained through this coupled dynamics. However, in fluctuating environments where existence of such stable equilibriums is highly uncertain, it may involve continuous transitions from one community state to another as species re-organized themselves over space through the rapid changes in local species abundances. While some of the inhabiting patches are destroyed exogenously or endogenously, or species responses to increasing environmental fluctuations vary increasingly with time, discontinuous transitions into an abrupt, irreversible state of the community dynamics may occur, as with this effect the inherent positive relationship between occupancy and abundance of species is no longer maintained.

Androgen deprivation therapy （ADT） has been an essential treatment option for treating prostate cancer （PCa）. The role for hormonal treatment initially was restricted to men with metastatic and inoperable, locally advanced disease. Now it has been extended to neoadjuvant or adjuvant therapy for surgery and radiotherapy, for biochemical relapse after surgery or radiation, and even as primary therapy for non-metastatic disease. Fifty percent of PCa patients treated will receive ADT at some point. There is growing concern about the adverse effects and costs associated with more widespread ADT use. The adverse effects on quality of life （QoL）, including physical, social and psychological well-being when men are androgen-deprived, may be considerable. This review examines the QoL issues in the following areas： body feminisation, sexual changes, relationship changes, cognitive and affective symptoms, fatigue, sleep disturbance, depression and physical effects. Further suggestions for therapeutic approaches to reduce these alterations are suFuzested.

We examine the intersection of the FAIR principles(Findable,Accessible,Interoperable and Reusable),the challenges and opportunities presented by the aggregation of widely distributed and heterogeneous data about biological and geological specimens,and the use of the Digital Object Architecture(DOA)data model and components as an approach to solving those challenges that offers adherence to the FAIR principles as an integral *** approach will be prototyped in the Distributed System of Scientific Collections(DiSSCo)project,the pan-European Research Infrastructure which aims to unify over 110 natural science collections across 21 *** take each of the FAIR principles,discuss them as requirements in the creation of a seamless virtual collection of bio/geo specimen data,and map those requirements to Digital Object components and facilities such as persistent identification,extended data typing,and the use of an additional level of abstraction to normalize existing heterogeneous data *** FAIR principles inform and motivate the work and the DO Architecture provides the technical vision to create the seamless virtual collection vitally needed to address scientific questions of societal importance.

Few-Shot Learning Enables Population-Scale Analysis of Leaf Traits in Populus trichocarpa

Plant phenotyping is typically a time-consuming and expensive endeavor,requiring large groups of researchers to meticulously measure biologically relevant plant traits,and is the main bottleneck in understanding plant adaptation and the genetic architecture underlying complex traits at population *** this work,we address these challenges by leveraging few-shot learning with convolutional neural networks to segment the leaf body and visible venation of 2,906 Populus trichocarpa leaf images obtained in the *** contrast to previous methods,our approach(a)does not require experimental or image preprocessing,(b)uses the raw RGB images at full resolution,and(c)requires very few samples for training(e.g.,just 8 images for vein segmentation).Traits relating to leaf morphology and vein topology are extracted from the resulting segmentations using traditional open-source image-processing tools,validated using real-world physical measurements,and used to conduct a genome-wide association study to identify genes controlling the *** this way,the current work is designed to provide the plant phenotyping community with(a)methods for fast and accurate image-based feature extraction that require minimal training data and(b)a new population-scale dataset,including 68 different leaf phenotypes,for domain scientists and machine learning *** of the few-shot learning code,data,and results are made publicly available.

The basis of the hydrophobicity of lanthanide rare earth oxides(REOs)has been the subject of considerable *** explore this question,the wetting behaviors and surface compositions of hierarchicallystructured Yb_(2)o_(3)(one of the REOs)coatings and non-REO Al_(2)o_(3)coatings deposited via solution precursor plasma spray process were investigated in this *** Yb_(2)o_(3)coatings were subjected to a number of post-deposition treatments including vacuum(1-15 Pa)treatment,Ar-plasma treatment,heat treatment(400℃),long-time air exposure and ultra-high vacuum(1×10^(-7)Pa)*** characterization showed that different post-deposition treatments resulted in different wetting behavior for the Yb_(2)o_(3)coatings which correlated with the content of hydrocarbon on the ***_(2)o_(3)coatings exhibited reversible transitions between superhydrophobicity after vacuum treatment and superhydrophilicity after Ar-plasma or heat treatment,linked to hydrocarbon adsorption onto and desorption from the ***_(2)o_(3)coatings after long-time air exposure and ultra-high vacuum treatment both remained hydrophilic and showed a smaller hydrocarbon content than coatings after vacuum ***_(2)o_(3)coatings with hierarchical surface structures similar to the Yb_(2)o_(3)coatings showed an increase in WCA to only-170 after the same vacuum treatment,indicating the REO has a much higher affinity for hydrocarbon adsorption than Al_(2)o_(3),and that the content of hydrocarbon adsorbed on the surface of the REO determined the wetting behavior.

The key issues studied focused on underground coal mining and included (1) prevention of explosions in sealed areas,(2) better emergency preparedness and re- sponse,(3) improvement of miners' ability to escape,(4) better protection of miners before and after a fire or explosion,(5) improved provision of oxygen,and (6) development and implementation of more robust post-incident *** *** passed the Mine Improvement and New Emergency Response Act of 2006,which mandated new laws to address the *** with investigations and congressional deliberations, the National Mining Association formed the independent Mine Safety Technology and Training Commission to study the state-of-the-art relative to technology and training that could address the vulnerabilities exposed by the mine *** discussed,the report outlined persistent vulnerabilities linked with significant hazards in underground coal mines, and made recommendations to provide a path for addressing *** the commis- sion report made 75 recommendations in the areas of risk-based design and management, communications technology,emergency response and mine rescue procedures,training for preparedness,and escape and protection *** its deliberations,the commis- sion importantly noted that mine safety in the *** to follow a new paradigm for en- suring mine safety and developing a culture of prevention that supports safe production at the business *** the commission's viewpoint,the bottom line in protecting coal miners is not only adopting a culture of prevention but also systematically pursuing mitigation of significant risks.

A varicocele is defined as the abnormal dilation of the internal testicular vein and pampiniform venus plexus within the spermatic cord. If a semen analysis is not obtained from the adolescent male, in the absence of other symptoms, the main clinical indication used by many urologists to recommend repair is testicular atrophy. The varicocele may result in testicular damage in some males causing testicular atrophy with impaired sperm production and decreased Leydig cell function, while in other males the varicocele may seemingly cause no ill effects. In adult men, varicoceles are frequently present and surgically correctable, yet the measurable benefits of surgical repair are slight according to a Cochrane review. While occurring more commonly in infertile men than fertile men, only 20% of men with a documented varicocele will suffer from fertility problems. Most varicoceles found in adolescents are detected during a routine medical examination, and it is difficult to predict which adolescent presenting with a varicocele will ultimately show diminished testicular function in adolescence or adulthood. As in adults, the mainstay of treatment for varicocele in adolescents is surgical correction. However, unlike an adult varicocelectomy （the microsurgical approach is the most common）, treatment for an adolescent varicocele is more often laparoscopic. Nevertheless, the goals of treatment are the same in the adolescent and adult patients. Controversy remains as to which patients to treat, when to initiate the treatment, and what type of treatment is the best. This review will present the current understanding of the etiology, diagnosis and treatment of the adolescent varicocele.

为发现新基因 ,寻找日本血吸虫病新疫苗候选分子 ,采用Sj雄虫免疫血清筛选Sj成虫cDNA文库。经测序发现新基因Sj MA含有一个完整的阅读框 ,推测其由 2 4 9个氨基酸组成 ,编码分子量为 2 8.8kD的可溶性蛋白质 ,并带有多个能被磷酸化激活的位点 ,提示其可能为一重要的信息传递分子。将Sj MA的cDNA亚克隆至原核表达载体pGEX 5X ,获得Sj MA原核表达的重组体rSj MA/GST ,并在E .coli中高效表达为谷胱甘肽S 转移酶 (GST)融合蛋白 ,分子量为 5 4 .8kD ,Western印迹显示融合蛋白质能被抗雄虫和抗GST血清识别。融合蛋白质免疫小鼠可诱导 34.2 9%的减虫率 ,与对照组有显著性差异 (P <0 .0 0 1 )。表明新基因Sj MA表达的蛋白质能诱导小鼠的抗日本血吸虫的保护性免疫 ,提示其作为日本血吸虫疫苗候选分子的潜在价值
