interwell connectivities are fundamental parameters required to manage waterfloods in oil reservoirs. Data-driven models, such as the capacitance-resistance model （CRM）, are fast tools to estimate these parameters from time-correlations of input （injection rates） and output （production rates） signals. Noise and structure of the input time-series impose limits on the information that can be extracted from a given data-set. This work uses the CRM to study general prescriptions for the design of input signals that enhance the information content of injection/production data in the estimation of well-to-well interactions. Numerical schemes and general features of the optimal input signal strategy are derived for this problem.

Using ab initio molecular dynamics(AiMD)simulations,classical molecular dynamics(CMD)simulations,small-angle X-ray scattering(SAXS),and pulsed-field gradient nuclear magnetic resonance(PFG-NMR),the solvation structure and ion dynamics of magnesium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide(Mg(TFSi)_(2))aqueous electrolyte at 1,2,and 3 m concentrations are investigated.From AiMD and CMD simulations,the first solvation shell of an Mg;ion is found to be composed of six water molecules in an octahedral configuration and the solvation shell is rather rigid.The TFSi^(-)ions prefer to stay in the second solvation shell and beyond.Meanwhile,the comparable diffusion coefficients of positive and negative ions in Mg(TFSi)_(2)aqueous electrolytes have been observed,which is mainly due to the formation of the stable[Mg(H_(2)O_(6))_(2)]^(+)complex,and,as a result,the increased effective Mg ion size.Finally,the calculated correlated transference numbers are lower than the uncorrelated ones even at the low concentration of 2 and 3 m,suggesting the enhanced correlations between ions in the multivalent electrolytes.This work provides a molecular-level understanding of how the solvation structure and multivalency of the ion affect the dynamics and transport properties of the multivalent electrolyte,providing insight for rational designs of electrolytes for improved ion transport properties.

This manuscript reviews the current literature involving clinical anxiety and cardiopulmonary disease,considers the hypothesized physiological mechanisms for anxiety,and discusses the use of exercise as a treatment for both anxiety and cardiopulmonary diseases.The literature summary consists of original investigations,meta-analysis,commentaries,and review publications in order to better understand the biological and psychological mechanisms for using exercise as treatment and to provide details specific to cardiopulmonary disease and anxiety management.A gap in the literature exists concerning the anxiolytic effects of exercise as a psychological and physical treatment in cardiopulmonary populations.The findings from this review support further investigation into the use of exercise to ameliorate the burden of anxiety in cardiopulmonary disease patients.This review evaluates the current literature surrounding cardiopulmonary disease and anxiety.A systematic literature search identified articles discussing the prevalence,association,and risk of anxiety in cardiopulmonary patients.Though depression is often studied in this population,recent investigation supports a need for further research regarding anxiety in cardiopulmonary patients.Treatment to manage patients’psychological profile can reduce exacerbations of known disease,reduce hospital readmission,and improve functional capacity,and overall quality of life.

Buckling-restrained braces （BRBs） have recently become popular in the United States for use as primary members of seismic lateral-force-resisting systems. A BRB is a steel brace that does not buckle in compression but instead yields in both tension and compression. Although design guidelines for BRB applications have been developed, systematic procedures for assessing performance and quantifying reliability are still needed. This paper presents an analytical framework for assessing buckling-restrained braced frame （BRBF） reliability when subjected to seismic loads. This framework efficiently quantifies the risk of BRB failure due to low-cycle fatigue fracture of the BRB core. The procedure includes a series of components that：（1） quantify BRB demand in terms of BRB core deformation histories generated through stochastic dynamic analyses; （2） quantify the limit-state of a BRB in terms of its remaining cumulative plastic ductility capacity based on an experimental database; and （3） evaluate the probability of BRB failure, given the quantified demand and capacity, through structural reliability analyses. Parametric studies were conducted to investigate the effects of the seismic load, and characteristics of the BRB and BRBF on the probability of brace failure. in addition, fragility curves （i.e., conditional probabilities of brace failure given ground shaking intensity parameters） were created by the proposed framework. While the framework presented in this paper is applied to the assessment of BRBFs, the modular nature of the framework components allows for application to other structural components and systems.

Analysis of the Direct Operating Cost(DOC) of aircraft is an important step towards achieving financially sustainable aviation operations. However, the value of the DOC for different aircraft types and flight scenarios is not widely available. in this study, we perform a systematic analysis of the DOC of every wide-body passenger aircraft currently in production, using the method of the Association of European Airlines(AEA). The elements of the DOC, e.g. financial costs, maintenance costs, and flight costs, are evaluated individually. Several realistic flight scenarios are considered, each with differences in route distance, fuel price, passenger number, and seating arrangement. For each flight scenario, the most cost-efficient aircraft type is identified and evaluated in the context of operations from Hong Kong international Airport. The information provided in this study could be useful to airline operators and policy makers.

We examine the intersection of the FAiR principles(Findable,Accessible,interoperable and Reusable),the challenges and opportunities presented by the aggregation of widely distributed and heterogeneous data about biological and geological specimens,and the use of the Digital Object Architecture(DOA)data model and components as an approach to solving those challenges that offers adherence to the FAiR principles as an integral characteristic.This approach will be prototyped in the Distributed System of Scientific Collections(DiSSCo)project,the pan-European Research infrastructure which aims to unify over 110 natural science collections across 21 countries.We take each of the FAiR principles,discuss them as requirements in the creation of a seamless virtual collection of bio/geo specimen data,and map those requirements to Digital Object components and facilities such as persistent identification,extended data typing,and the use of an additional level of abstraction to normalize existing heterogeneous data structures.The FAiR principles inform and motivate the work and the DO Architecture provides the technical vision to create the seamless virtual collection vitally needed to address scientific questions of societal importance.

Ecosystem stays far from thermodynamic equilibrium. Through the interactions among biotic and abiotic components, and encompassing physical environments, ecosystem forms a dissipative struc- ture that allows it to dissipate energy continuously and thereby remains functional over time. Biotic regulation of energy and material fluxes in and out of the ecosystem allows it to maintain a homeostatic state which corresponds to a self-organized state emerged in a non-equilibrium thermodynamic system. While the associated self-organizational processes approach to homeostatic state, entropy （a measure of irre- versibility） degrades and dissipation of energy increases. We propose here that at a homeostatic state of ecosystem, biodiversity which includes both phenotypic and functional diversity, attains optimal values. As long as biodiversity remains within its optimal range, the corresponding homeostatic state is maintained. However, while embedded environmental conditions fluctuate along the gradient of accelerating changes, phenotypic diversity and functional diversity contribute inversely to the associated self-organizing proc- esses. Furthermore, an increase or decrease in biodiversity outside of its optimal range makes the eco- system vulnerable to transition into a different state.

KEY POiNTSAbstract: The 2004 recommendations on water and sodium intake from the institute of Medicine (iOM) of the National Academy of Sciences are targeted primarily at sedentary Americans. These guidelines for water and salt intake should not be applied to athletes.  Athletes who follow the iOM recommendations to the letter may actually put themselves at risk for unintended decreases in performance or even untoward health consequences.

Active breeding programs specifically for root system architecture(RSA)phenotypes remain rare;however,breeding for branch and taproot types in the perennial crop alfalfa is ongoing.Phenotyping in this and other crops for active RSA breeding has mostly used visual scoring of specific traits or subjective classification into different root types.While image-based methods have been developed,translation to applied breeding is limited.
