AIM：To evaluate the clinical and tomographic outcomes after implantation of a new intrastromal corneal ring segment（ICrs） with 140-degrees of arc in eyes with corneal ***：We evaluated patients with corneal ectasia implanted with Ferrara 140° ICrs from April 2010 to February *** measures included preoperative and postoperative corrected distance visual acuity（CDVA）,keratometry simulated（K） reading,tomographic astigmatism and *** patients were evaluated using the Pentacam scheimpflug ***：The study evaluated 58 *** mean followup was 16.81±10.8 *** CDVA（logM Ar） improved from 0.5±0.20（20/60） to 0.3±0.21（20/40）（P〈0.01）.The average K reduced from 49.87±7.01 to 47.34±4.90 D（P〈0.01）.The asphericity changed from-0.60±0.86 to-0.23±0.67 D（P〈0.01）.The mean preoperative tomographic astigmatism decreased from-8.0±3.45 to-4.53±2.52 D（P〈0.01）.CONCLUsION：The new ICrs model with 140-degrees of arc effectively improve the visual acuity and reduce the high astigmatism usually found in patients with corneal ectasia.

In 2015, Aotearoa New Zealand became a signatory to the sendai Framework for Disaster risk reduction 2015–2030(sendai Framework), the Paris Climate Change Agreement(Paris Agreement), and the sustainable Development Goals(sDGs). since 2017 Aotearoa New Zealand has been undergoing governance reform to realign priorities and to improve the management of natural hazards and climate change. The aim of this article is to provide a review of how Aotearoa New Zealand is taking steps to improve consistency of planning across the legislative environment, thereby implementing its commitments to the sendai Framework, the sDGs, and the Paris Agreement. It provides an overview of the national governance arrangements, with a focus on the key legislative tools;identifies how key terms are defined nationally;and provides an overview of the governance arrangements that contribute to the country’s international obligations. The discussion describes how obligations are applied, and considers two"disruptive and proactive" action examples. Four recommended actions are provided to further implement these international aspirations:(1) take into account these international agreements during the development and implementation of all legislation;(2) build awareness, capability,and capacity within central, regional, and local governments to support implementation;(3) actively evaluate the progress of implementing initiatives designed to reduce vulnerability and strengthen resilience;and(4) ensure that more weight and value are given to indigenous planning documents.

This essay reflects on the reception of Lu Xun＇s short story ＂The Loner＂（Gudu zhe, alternately translated as ＂The Lone Wolf, The Misanthrope,＂ and ＂The Isolate＂） in American classrooms, where students have sometimes wondered whether that character might be read as ＂queer.＂ It suggests that the title character＇s unusual and self-imposed celibacy is probably best explained by his belief, in a very general sense, in the foundational values of zoology as practiced in Japan and China in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and thus that the story may be a better gateway to understanding the ways in which Lu Xun envisioned the mixed impact of new political economies on private life than a source text for queer studies. At the same time, however, this essay emphasizes that in ＂The Loner,＂ as elsewhere, accounting for the ＂heterosexual imperative＂ of early zoology （e.g., with its emphases on animal husbandry, propagation, reproduction） can have meaningful consequences for ＂queering＂ interpretations of received texts from literature, history of science, and beyond.

Bite force is often associated with speciﬁc morphological features,such as sagittal *** presence of a pro-nounced sagittal crest in some tapirs(Perissodactyla:Tapiridae)was recently shown to be negatively correlated with hard-object feeding,in contrast with similar cranial structures in *** aim of this study was to investi-gate bite forces and sagittal crest heights across a wide range of modern and extinct tapirs and apply a comparative investigation to establish whether these features are correlated across a broad phylogenetic *** examined a sample of 71 specimens representing 15 tapir species(5 extant,10 extinct)using the dry-skull method,linear measurements of cranial features,phylogenetic reconstruction,and comparative *** were found to ex-hibit variation in bite force and sagittal crest height across their phylogeny and between different biogeographical realms,with high-crested morphologies occurring mostly in Neotropical *** highest bite forces within tapirs appear to be driven by estimates for the masseter–pterygoid muscle complex,rather than predicted forces for the temporalis *** results demonstrate that relative sagittal crest height is poorly correlated with relative cranial bite force,suggesting high force application is not a driver for pronounced sagittal crests in this *** divergent biomechanical capabilities of different contemporaneous tapirids may have allowed multiple species to occupy overlapping territories and partition resources to avoid excess *** forces in tapirs peak in Pleistocene species,independent of body size,suggesting possible dietary shifts as a potential result of climatic changes during this epoch.

Objective:To study how student self-assessment compared with the faculty’s assessment on our family medicine clerkship and to explore the effect of demographic factors on the ***:students and their faculty preceptors assessed the students’achievement of clerk-ship objectives at mid *** performed Mann-Whitney U tests to compare student ratings and faculty ratings for each clerkship *** performed linear regression analyses to in-vestigate the effect of medical school year and student sex on student ratings and the effect of sex concordance or sex difference of the faculty-student pair on faculty ***:Two hundred one students completed the family medicine clerkship between July 2015 and June *** ratings were higher than student ratings for all 12 clerkship objec-tives(Pr all comparisons).Third-year students rated themselves higher than second-year students for nine of the clerkship *** was no difference in student ratings between female students and male students and no difference in faculty ratings whether there was a sex-concordant or a sex-different preceptor-student ***:Our findings add to the knowledge of the mid-clerkship feedback process offered by different *** study is needed to investigate how students use this feedback to improve for the remainder of the clerkship.

The Alpe Arami garnet peridotite of the southern swiss Alps is associated with eclogites and included within quartzofeldspathic gneisses. Controversy has swirled around the depth of origin of this massif since the 1970s when application of the newly-developed technique of thermobarometry suggested a depth of last equilibration of greater than 120 kin. such controversy accelerated in 1996 when we reported microstructural evidence of extensive precipitation of ilmenite and spinel from olivine and proposed a much greater depth of origin. subsequent experiments showed that it was possible to dissolve the observed amount of TiO2 in olivine, but only at depths in excess of 300 kin, agreeing with the earlier proposal. In 1999 we added new, independent, evidence concerning exsolution of high-pressure clinoenstatite from diopside that in-and-of-itself required a depth of origin in excess of 250 km. subsequently, we also added evidence from the surrounding eclogites of very high pressures and experimental evidence that the pyroxenes included in the amoeboid garnets of this rock had exsolved from a majoritic parent at perhaps even greater pressures. In refutation of the first two of these observations, suggestions were made that （i） we had made a serious error in our estimate of how much ilmenite was present in olivine （and therefore how much TiO2 had been dissolved in olivine）; （ii） the ilmenite had not been exsolved from olivine but former titanian clinohumite had been present and broke down to yield the ilmenite; （iii） the pyroxene exsolved from diopside had been high-temperature clinoenstatite. In all three of these cases, the alternatives offered were claimed to be accommodated at low pressures. Here we review the essence of this controversy and show that the only scenario that can explain all of the data is the one that we originally proposed; indeed, the more recent data have strongly supported that interpretation and pushed the minimum origin of the massif to depths ap

Broadband Optical Active Waveguides Written by Femtosecond Laser Pulses in Lithium Fluoride

Broadband waveguiding through light-emitting strips directly written in a blank lithium fluoride crystal with a femtosecond laser is reported. Light guiding was observed at several optical wavelengths, from blue, 458 nm, to near-infrared, at 155nm. Visible photoluminescence spectra of the optically active F2 and F33 color centers produced by the fs laser writing process were measured. The wavelength-dependent refractive index increase was estimated to be in the order of 10-3-10-4 in the visible and near-infrared spectral intervals, which is consistent with the stable formation of point defects in LiF.

Biodegradable polymers have been increasingly used for scientific and commercial applications because they are similar to some conventional thermoplastics and exhibit the ability of ***(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate)(PHBV)nanocomposites films with 1 and 2 wt% of carbon nanotubes(CNT)were prepared by solution mixing,followed by solvent *** this work,PHBV/CNT nanocomposites were submitted to biodegradation in an aqueous medium for 34 days through a respirometric ***,the PHBV films were analyzed by the CO2 production and mineralization as a response of a microbial attack,which was monitored by back titration during all the *** films were also characterized by measuring the weight loss;crystallinity was evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry(DsC)and the surface morphology by scanning electron microscopy(sEM).By analyzing the weight loss of the films,it was observed that adding CNT increases the resistance to biodegradation *** obtained values of CO2 production and mineralization of the samples,as well as the values of weight loss,showed that the biodegradation of PHBV/CNT nanocomposites was minor in comparison to neat *** addition of CNT in PHBV matrix influences the surface morphology,causing the presence of cavities and an increase of roughness.
