Open Ground Storey（OGS） framed buildings where the ground storey is kept open without infill walls, mainly to facilitate parking, is increasing commonly in urban areas. However, vulnerability of this type of buildings has been exposed in past earthquakes. OGS buildings are conventionally designed by a bare frame analysis that ignores the stiffness of the infill walls present in the upper storeys, but doing so underestimates the inter-storey drift（ISd） and thereby the force demand in the ground storey columns. Therefore, a multiplication factor（MF） is introduced in various international codes to estimate the design forces（bending moments and shear forces） in the ground storey columns. This study focuses on the seismic performance of typical OGS buildings designed by means of MFs. The probabilistic seismic demand models, fragility curves, reliability and cost indices for various frame models including bare frames and fully infilled frames are developed. It is found that the MF scheme suggested by the Israel code is better than other international codes in terms of reliability and cost.

The suction side boundary layer evolution of a high-lift low-pressure turbine cascade has been experimentally in- vestigated at low and high free-stream turbulence intensity conditions. Measurements have been carded out in order to analyze the boundary layer transition and separation processes at a low Reynolds nttmber, under both steady and unsteady inflows. Static pressure distributions along the blade surfaces as well as total pressure distri- butions in a downstream tangential plane have been measured to evaluate the overall aerodynamic efficiency of the blade for the different conditions. particle. Image Velocimetry has been adopted to analyze the time-mean and time-varying velocity fields. The flow field has been surveyed in two orthogonal planes （a blade-to-blade plane and a wall-parallel one）. These measurements allow the identification of the Kelvin-Helmholtz large scale cohe- rent structures shed as a consequence of the boundary layer laminar separation under steady inflow, as well as the investigation of the three-dimensional effects induced by the intermittent passage of low and high speed streaks. A close inspection of the time-mean velocity profiles as well as of the boundary layer integral parameters helps to characterize the suction side boundary layer state, thus justifying the influence of free-stream turbulence intensity on the blade aerodynamic losses measured under steady and unsteady inflows.

The intent of this paper is to schedule short-term hydrothermal system probabilistically considering stochastic operating cost curves for thermal power generation units and uncertainties in load demand and reservoir water inflows. Therefore, the stochastic multi-objective hydrothermal generation scheduling problem is formulated with explicit recognition of uncertainties in the system production cost coefficients and system load, which are treated as random variable. Fuzzy methodology has been exploited for solving a decision making problem involving multiplicity of objectives and selection criterion for best compromised solution. A real-coded genetic algorithm with arithmetic-average-bound-blend crossover and wavelet mutation operator is applied to solve short-term variable-head hydrothermal scheduling problem. Initial feasible solution has been obtained by implementing the random heuristic search. The search is performed within the operating generation limits. Equality constraints that satisfy the demand during each time interval are considered by introducing a slack thermal generating unit for each time interval. Whereas the equality constraint which satisfies the consumption of available water to its full extent for the whole scheduling period is considered by introducing slack hydro generating unit for a particular time interval. Operating limit violation by slack hydro and slack thermal generating unit is taken care using exterior penalty method. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated on two sample systems.

This study demonstrates the influence of the Ag^(+)/pO_(4)^(3-)ratio in precursor solution on the crystal structural formation,morphology,physical properties,and photocatalytic performance of a Ag_(3)pO_(4)photocatalyst that is fabricated,using a facile precipitation method,from AgNO_(3)and Na2HpO_(4)·12H_(2)*** material characterizations were carried out using x-ray diffraction(XRd),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy(EdX),Brunauer–Emmett–Teller(BET)surface area,Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)absorption,Raman scattering,x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XpS),UV-vis absorption,and photoluminescence(pL).The results show that Ag_(3)pO_(4)crystallizes better when the excess pO_(4)^(3-)content increases,and the lattice parameters decrease slightly,while the crystal diameter and the particle size *** change is also observed in the Raman scattering and FTIR spectra with the increase in the vibration frequency of the[pO_(4)]*** compression of the[pO_(4)]unit was also confirmed in the XpS spectra with the shift of p 2p peaks toward higher binding *** photocatalytic results showed that the samples synthesized from excess pO_(4)^(3-)solution exhibited higher photocatalytic performance compared to the sample with a Ag^(+)/pO_(4)^(3-)ratio of 3:1.A sample prepared from the precursor solution with a Ag^(+)/pO_(4)^(3-)ratio of 3:1.5 was optimal for RhB decomposition under both visible light and natural sunlight,completely decomposing 10 ppm RhB after 15 minutes of xenon lamp irradiation and after 60 minutes under solar light *** is attributed to the high crystallinity,small particle size and low electron–hole recombination rate of the sample.

In this work,we present a theoretical study on the stability of a two-dimensional plane poiseuille flow of magnetic fluids in the presence of externally applied magnetic *** fluids are assumed to be incompressible,and their magnetization is coupled to the flow through a simple phenomenological *** parameters are defined,and the equations are perturbed around the base *** eigenvalues of the linearized system are computed using a finite difference scheme and studied with respect to the dimensionless parameters of the *** examine the cases of both the horizontal and vertical magnetic *** obtained results indicate that the flow is destabilized in the horizontally applied magnetic field,but stabilized in the vertically applied *** characterize the stability of the flow by computing the stability diagrams in terms of the dimensionless parameters and determine the variation in the critical Reynolds number in terms of the magnetic ***,we show that the superparamagnetic limit,in which the magnetization of the fluids decouples from hydrodynamics,recovers the same purely hydrodynamic critical Reynolds number,regardless of the applied field direction and of the values of the other dimensionless magnetic parameters.

In this study, coupled equations of the motion of a particle in a fluid forced vortex were investigated using the differential transformation method （dTM） with the pad6 approximation and the differential quadrature method （dO_M）. The significant contribution of the work is the introduction of two new, fast and efficient solutions for a spherical particle in a forced vortex that are improvements over the previous numerical results in the literature. These methods represent approximations with a high degree of accuracy and minimal computational effort for studying the particle motion in a fluid forced vortex. In addition, the velocity profiles （angular and radial） and the position trajectory of a particle in a fluid forced vortex are described in the current study.

Steam-assisted gravity drainage(SAGd)is a mature technology for bitumen recovery from oil ***,it is an energy-intensive process that requires large amounts of steam to heat and mobilize *** purpose of this work is to develop ways to enhance SAGd performance through the use of organic base *** research is approached from three focus areas that supplement and guide each other:characterization tests,sand-pack floods,and computational simulation.A number of key mechanisms for enhancing oil recovery were identified,high-temperature additive characterization tests were developed,and promising alkalis were tested in porous *** was employed to history-match sandpack flood production data,in order to demonstrate the effect of an additive on the oil–water relative *** on these results,it was concluded that oxygenated organic bases had the most potential for improving bitumen recovery through reducing the oil–water interfacial tension(IFT)by increasing the pH of the *** organic bases favorably modify the interfacial energies between the immiscible oil–water phases and enable them to flow easily through the porous media during ***-pack flood tests have successfully demonstrated a 10%–15%improvement in bitumen recovery,over baseline,in the presence of IFT-reducing *** results further showed that an IFT reduction had a positive impact on SAGd *** work demonstrates the potential of organic bases to improve not only SAGd,but other steam injection ***,a number of experimental methods were developed,tried,and tested during the course of this work.
