Optimum Threshold Estimation of Thorax CT Scan for COVID-19 Diagnosis in a Single Center in Cameroon

Objective: To evaluate the lung CT scan as a possible predictive diagnostic method for COVID-19 in the Cameroonian context. Methods: We designed a cross sectional study. Suspected cases of COVID-19 during the first wave at the national social insurance fund (NSIF) hospital were screened with both COVID-19 with lung CT scan and a PCR test. Univariate analysis was performed for sample description and multivariate analysis to assess the correlation between positive results for the PCR and other parameters. We estimated the optimum threshold of sensitivity/specificity, and area under curve using the empirical method and package. Results: A total of 62 suspected COVID-19 cases were recorded, predominantly males (Sex Ratio = 2.2) with a median age of 58.5 (IQR = 19.7). Among our 62 patients, 29 (46.8%) were confirmed COVID-19 cases with positive PCR results. All the patients had a thorax CT scan with a median impairment of 40% (IQR = 20%). The optimum threshold estimate for CT scan for COVID-19 infection diagnosis was 60% (95% CI = 25% - 80%). Overall, the sensitivity and specificity estimates were 0.30 (95% CI = 0.15 - 0.49) and 0.87 (95% CI = 0.70 - 0.96), respectively, leading to an Area Under Curve (AUC) estimate of 0.59 (95% CI = 0.46, 0.71). Conclusion: In this setting, lung CT scan was neither sensitive nor specific to predict COVID-19 disease.

Receptor-like kinases(RLKs)are plasma membrane(PM)proteins that monitor the extracellular environment and regulate various processes such as biotic *** motif(LysM)RLKs are a specific class of RLKs involved in the recognition of chitin-derived molecules produced by microorganisms(Buendia et al.,2018).Notably,the LysM-RLK heterocomplex LjNFR1/LjNFR5 recognizes lipochitooligosaccharides(LCOs,also called Nod factors)leading to root nodule symbiosis(RNS)in Lotus japonicus,whereas the heterocomplexes AtLYK5/AtCERK1 and OsCEBIP/OsCERK1 recognize chitooligosaccharides(COs)leading to defense responses in Arabidopsis thaliana and rice,respectively(Buendia et al.,2018).These receptors function as *** ligand binding activates the intracellular kinase activity of LjNFR1,AtCERK1,and OsCERK1,which mediate phosphorylation-dependent signaling *** mechanisms are essential to tightly control RLK homeostasis and signaling,allowing cells to respond efficiently while preventing constitutive *** PM-resident pool of RLKs must be maintained for rapid response,while RLK endocytosis and ultimately degradation in lytic vacuoles is critical for both signaling and downregulation of the *** addition to its role in proteasome-dependent degradation,ubiquitination,a post-translational protein modification,has emerged as a key regulator of PM proteins by inducing their internalization and degradation in lytic vacuoles(Romero-Barrios and Vert,2018).

Thermal characterization of bio-based phase changing materials in decorative wood-based panels for thermal energy storage

Decorative wood panels containing pouches of bio-based phase changing materials(PCMs) were prepared. Three different PCM mixtures were used: a blend of capric and lauric acids as well as two commercial products, Puretemp?20 and Puretemp?23(Puretemp). The panels consist of engraved Medium Density Fiberboard(MDF) filled with a plastic pouch filled with PCM. High density fiberboard(HDF) was used on top of the panels to enclose the PCM pouches. PCM mixtures were first tested by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC). Phase change temperature and total heat storage of the panels were measured for both fusion and solidification with a Dynamic Heat-Flow Meter Apparatus(DHFMA). DSC and DHFMA results were compared, allowing a better understanding of results gathered from these two techniques. DSC calibration has been revealed important when assessing PCMs. The panels present a phase change temperature and a latent heat storage suitable for buildings applications. The panel made with Puretemp?23 presented the highest energy, with 57.1 J g^(-1). Thermal cycling was conducted on the panels to investigate thermal reliability, which revealed small modifications of thermal properties for two products. For all cases, latent heat was found stable. Hygro-mechanical behavior of the panels was also evaluated as these where designed to be esthetic decorative panels. This study exposes the potential of a new type of wood-based panels loaded with PCM for thermal energy storage and brings overall knowledge about PCM products thermal characterization.

Gas transport mechanisms can be categorized into viscous flow and mass diffusion,both of which may coexist in a porous media with multiscale pore *** determine the dominant transport mechanism and its contribution to gas transport capacity,the gas viscous flow and mass diffusion processes are analyzed in single nanoscale pores via a theoretical method,and are simulated in 3D nanoporous media via pore-scale lattice Boltzmann *** apparent permeability from the viscous flow and apparent diffusivity from the mass diffusion are estimated.A dimensionless parameter,i.e.,the diffusion-flow ratio,is proposed to evaluate the dominant transport mechanism,which is a function of the apparent permeability,apparent diffusivity,bulk dynamic viscosity,and working *** results show that the apparent permeability increases by approximately two orders of magnitude when the average Knudsen number(Kn_(avg))of the nanoporous media or Knudsen number(Kn)of single nanoscale pores increases from 0.1 to *** the same conditions,the increment in the apparent diffusivity is only approximately one order of *** Kn10,the apparent diffusivity has an upper bound(i.e.,Knudsen diffusivity).The dominant transport mechanism in single nanoscale pores is the viscous flow for 0.01

The Bipindi iron ore district is located in the central section of the Nyong Complex at the northwestern margin of the Congo Craton in Southwest *** iron district contains numerous iron mineralization hosted by the Mewongo,Bibole,Kouambo,and Zambi banded iron formations(BIFs).These BIFs contain magnetite as the main iron ore mineral associated with pyrite,and gangue minerals are quartz with minor chlorite and *** origin of iron ore from these BIFs was investigated using a combination of in-situ magnetite and whole-rock *** studied BIF ore samples have a narrow range of TFe between 30.90 wt.%and 43.20 wt.%,indicating a low-grade *** geochemical signatures of magnetite such as low contents of base metals(e.g.,Cu,Co,V,and Zn)and low Co/Zn ratios600 and>75,respectively),we suggest that magnetite was derived from a mixture of seawater and~0.1%low-temperature hydrothermal fluids in an oxidizing ***,low-temperature hydrothermal and later metamorphic fluids were necessary for the transformation of the protolith Nyong Complex BIFs to iron ore.

The Bafoussam-Mamfe Region(BMR)belongs to the Western Cameroon Highland margin,an amalgam of transient landscape that evolved from the interactions between tectonics,lithology and climate *** area is tectonically active and shows differential tectonic uplift,contrasting relief,variations in erosion rates,in river incision,and in channel *** order to appraise the BMR tectono-geomorphic evolution,it is essential to understand relationships between internal and external processes and their geomorphic expression at a river basin *** this purpose,we use drainage texture(Dt),stream frequency(Fs),drainage density(Dd),asymmetry factor(AF),the transverse topographic symmetry factor(TTSF),the mean of mountain front sinuosity per unit(Smf),concavity factor(Cf),hypsometry integral(HI)and streamlength gradient index(SL-index)based on 30 m Digital Elevation Models(DEM)and field *** results reveal considerable variations in geology,relief,topography and geomorphic indices values differentiated into three geomorphic units;the Mamfe unit developed on the Mamfe Cretaceous basin,the Nguti and Bafoussam high plateau units build up on the Precambrian granito-gneissic basement overlaid by a volcanic *** stepped(longitudinal and normalized)river profiles and complex hypsometric curves show the lithostructural control of the hydrographic ***(from~1.21 to~4.59),Fs(from~0.26 to~1.91),Dd(from~0.66 to~1.71)geomorphic indice values indicate a part of lithologic control on this morphology while the AF(from~1.16to~24.91),TTSF(from~0.20 to~0.71),Smf(U2=1.11 and U3=1.19),Cf(from~-20.91 to~78.93),HI(from~0.12 to~0.52)and SL-index designate the active tectonics as the main factor that had controlled the morphology of this same *** results pinpoint the combined post-Pan-African to Recent tectonic features,lithologic heterogeneities and the differential erosion processes as main factors that have controlled the BMR *** results highlight how

Numerical Simulation of Gas-Solid Flow in Square Cyclone Separators with Downward Exit

Cyclone separators are widely used in industrial applications. The separation efficiency and pressure drop are the most important parameters to evaluate the performance of processing system. In the simulations,the flow behavior of gas and particles within a square cyclone separator is simulated by means of computational fluid dynamics. The RNG k- ε model and the Reynolds stress model( RSM) are used to model gas turbulence. The flow behavior is examined in the term of tangential velocity components,static pressure and pressure drop contour plots for flow field and solid volume fraction. The effects of the turbulence model and solid volume fraction on the square cyclone are discussed. The results indicate that the pressure drop increases with the increase of solid volume fraction,and increase with the increase of inlet velocities for two turbulence models, moreover,the simulations results are compared with pressure field. For all runs,the RSM model gives a higher pressure drop compared to the RNG k- ε model. The RSM model provides well the forced vortex and free vortex,and captures better the phenomena occurring during intense vortex flow in the presence of walls within cyclone separators.
