Simultaneous harvesting and cell disruption of microalgae using ozone bubbles:optimization and characterization study for biodiesel production

In the present study, ozone was introduced as an alternative approach to harvest and disrupt microalgae cells (Chlorella vulgaris) simultaneously for biodiesel production. At the optimum ozonation conditions (6.14 g·h^(−1) ozone concentration, 30 min ozonation time, 1 L·min^(−1) of ozone flowrate at medium pH of 10 and temperature of 30℃), the sedimentation efficiency of microalgae cells increased significantly from 12.56% to 68.62%. It was observed that the microalgae cells aggregated to form flocs after pretreated with ozone due to the increment of surface charge from −20 to −6.59 mV. Besides, ozone had successfully disrupted the microalgae cells and resulted in efficient lipid extraction, which was 1.9 times higher than the control sample. the extracted microalgae lipid was mainly consisted of methyl palmitate (C16:0), methyl oleate (C18:1) and methyl linolenate (C18:3), making it suitable for biodiesel production. Finally, utilization of recycled culture media after ozonation pre-treatment showed robust growth of microalgae, in which the biomass yield was maintained in the range of 0.796 to 0.879 g ·h^(−1) for 5 cycles of cultivation.

Background: Mycobacterium (M) chelonei keratitis is a rare opportunistic eye infection that can cause significant morbidity when not being treated properly. the first case was documented by Gangadharam et al in 1978 and since then, a total of 49 cases were reported in the literature. One alarming fact is that more than 50% of cases were found in the Chinese population and mostly reported in recent years. the key to successful management of M. chelonei keratitis is early diagnosis by high index of suspicion. In order to alert ophthalmologists of this condition, we report a typical case of M. chelonei keratitis and review the literature of all the reported cases with special reference to its risk factors, treatments and ***: the cases reported in the literature and a case of our own were reviewed and ***: Our case was a 42-year-old gentleman who developed M. chlonei keratitis following pterygium surgery. Long-range and fast transport of coherent excitons is important for the development of high-speed excitonic circuits and quantum computing ***,most of these coherent excitons have only been observed in some low-dimensional semiconductors when coupled with cavities,as there are large inhomogeneous broadening and dephasing effects on the transport of excitons in their native states in ***,by confining coherent excitons at the 2D quantum limit,we first observed molecular aggregation-enabled‘supertransport’of excitons in atomically thin two-dimensional(2D)organic semiconductors between coherent states,with a measured high effective exciton diffusion coefficient of ~346.9 cm^(2)/s at room *** value is one to several orders of magnitude higher than the values reported for other organic molecular aggregates and low-dimensional inorganic *** coupling to any optical cavities,the monolayer pentacene sample,a very clean 2D quantum system(~1.2 nm thick)with high crystallinity(J-type aggregation)and minimal interfacial states,showed superradiant emission from Frenkel excitons,which was experimentally confirmed by the temperature-dependent photoluminescence(PL)emission,highly enhanced radiative decay rate,significantly narrowed PL peak width and strongly directional in-plane *** coherence in monolayer pentacene samples was observed to be delocalised over~135 molecules,which is significantly larger than the values(a few molecules)observed for other organic thin *** addition,the supertransport of excitons in monolayer pentacene samples showed highly anisotropic *** results pave the way for the development of future high-speed excitonic circuits,fast OLEDs,and other optoelectronic devices.

Inflammatory pseudotumor of the liver is a rare benign lesion that can mimic a malignant liver nioplasm. A case of inflammatory pseudotumor of the liver found in association with a malignant gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GISt) of the small bowel was reported. the inflammatory pseudotumor was misdiagnosed as a metastasis from the GISt by frozen section. A correct diagnosis was made only after histopathological examination of the paraffin section of the resescted specimen. this case is psrticularly interesting because of the association of the two rare pathological entities and the diagnostic dilemma that arose from the similarity of their histological appearances. to our knowledge，this association has not been reported in the literature.

Mutations of t-complex testis expressed gene 5 transcripts in the testis of sterile t-haplotype mutant mouse

Aim： to determine the possible roles of the t-complex testis expressed gene 5 （tctex5） on sperm functions, the fulllength sequence of mRNA was studied and compared in the testis between the normal wild-type and the sterile t-haplotype mutant mice. Methods： We applied rapid amplification of cDNA ends, Northern blot and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction to analyze the full length of tctex5 mRNAs isolated from testes of the wild-type and the t-haplotype mice. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction was used to semi-quantitatively compare expression of tctex5 transcripts in the 16 tissues and 9.5 day stage embryos in the wild-type mice. E-translation was applied to estimate the amino acid sequences. Results： One long and one short transcript of tctex5 mRNA were discovered in mouse testis of wild-type （tctex5^long-＋ and tctex5^short-＋） and t-haplotype （tctex5^long-＋ and tctex5^short-＋） mice, respectively. Being enhanced only in the testis, tctex5^long-＋ had 17 point mutations and one 15-bp-deletion in the exon 1 region, comparing with the tctex5^long-＋, whereas the tctex5^short-＋ was similar to the tctex5^short-＋. the short isoforms of tctex5 mRNAs in the two models encoded exactly the same peptides, but the long isoforms did not. the estimated peptide encoded by tctex5^long-＋ had significant mutations on putative sites of phosphorylation and PP1 binding. Conclusion： We established that mutations that occur in the tctex5 long transcript of the t-haplotype mice are important for normal sperm function, whereas the short transcript of tctex5 might have a conserved function among different tissues. （Asian J Androl 2008 Mar; 10： 219-226）

Plants accumulate a vast array of secondary metabolites,which constitute a natural resource for *** corymbosa belongs to the Rubiaceae family,and has been used in traditional medicine to treat different diseases,including ***,the active metabolites of the plant,their biosynthetic pathway and mode of action in cancer are *** fill these gaps,we exposed this plant to eight different stress conditions and combined different omics data capturing gene expression,metabolic profiles,and anti-cancer *** results show that *** extracts are active against breast cancer cell lines and that ursolic acid is responsible for this ***,we assembled a high-quality genome and uncovered two genes involved in the biosynthesis of ursolic ***,we also revealed that ursolic acid causes mitotic catastrophe in cancer cells and identified three high-confidence protein binding targets by Cellular thermal Shift Assay(CEtSA)and reverse ***,these results constitute a valuable resource to further characterize the biosynthesis of active metabolites in the Oldenlandia group,while the mode of action of ursolic acid will allow us to further develop this valuable compound.
