The scour and deposition pattern around an abutment under constant discharge condition is calculated using a three dimensional(3d) Computational Fluid dynamics(CFd) *** Reynolds-Averaged Navier Stokes(RANS) equations are solved in three dimensions using a CFd *** Level Set Method(LSM) is used for calculation of both free surface and bed *** two-equation turbulence model(k-ε and k-ω) is used to calculate the eddy viscosity in the RANS *** pressure term in the RANS equations on a staggered grid is modeled using the Chorin’s projection *** 5th order Weighted Essentially Non-Oscillatory(WENO) scheme discretizes the convective term of the RANS *** Kovacs and Parker and dey formulations are used for the reduction in bed shear stress on the sloping *** model also used the sandslide algorithm which limits bed shear stress reduction during the erosion *** numerical model solution is validated against experimental results collected at the Politecnico di Milano,Milan,*** r,the numerical model is tested for perfo rmance by varying the grid sizes and key parameters like the space and time discretization *** effect of varying bed porosity has been ***,the free surface is well represented in a realistic manner and bed topography is well predicted using the Level Set Method(LSM).

The enzyme leukotriene A4 (LTA4) plays an important role as precursor of slow reactive substances as LTC4, LTd4, and LTE4. It is an attractive target for molecular modeling and QSAR study. Our effort is mainly focused on exploring the SAR for inhibitors of the LTA4 hydrolase through docking study, pharmacophore modeling and molecular descriptor study. The binding of these small molecules on LTA4 hydrolase enzyme was described by the models developed on 2d molecular descriptors, with good predictive power (39 compounds, 6 descriptors, r2 0.98, SEE 0.167, F-value 268.53, q2 0.90, r2adj 0.97, P-value d of residuals 0.15). docking studies were employed to presume the probable binding conformation of these analogues and exploring the SAR for the compounds. The novel pharmacophore represents the ligand features that are involved in interactions with the target protein, as well as the space around the ligand occupied by the protein. The efforts are aimed to discover the SAR for the inhibitors of LTA4 hydrolase through techniques of QSAR, docking and pharmacophore.

Cigarette smoking(CS)induced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPd)is third leading cause of global pulmonary health ***,there is no effective therapeutic strategy to control perpetuating inflammatory response in *** aim of current study was to investigate the protective effects of piperine in CS-induced murine model of *** of experimental animals to cigarettes smoke twice daily for 10 weeks resulted in increased production of pro-inflammatory mediators including IL-1β,IL-8,TNF-α,LTB-4 and neutrophil elastase(NE)in bronchoalveolar(BAL)*** stress biomarkers,malondialdehyde(MdA),myeloperoxidase(MPO),nitric oxide and MMP9 also significantly increased in CS-control mice lungs as compared to normal control group(Pd recruitment of inflammatory cells,neutrophils and macrophages into BAL fluid and altered breathing rate and tidal volume as compared to normal control ***,oral treatment of CS-exposed animals with test drug,piperine(10 mg/kg,*** 20 mg/kg,b.w.)or reference standard methyl prednisolone(3.25 mg/kg,b.w.)for 21 days or 7 days,respectively,significantly(pd pulmonary function and reversed CS-induced production of cytokines,oxidative stress biomarkers and other biochemicals as compared to CS-exposed control ***,In silico molecular docking studies exhibited attractive binding affinity of piperine for human neutrophil elastase,MMP-9,MPO and IL-8 *** of our study suggest protective effect of piperine in experimental animals by repressing CS-induced infiltration of inflammatory cells and thereby exaggerated production of pro-inflammatory mediators and oxidative stress.

Biodiesel production from microbial lipid obtained by intermittent feeding of municipal sludge and treated crude glycerol

In the present study,municipal secondary sludge and purified glycerol(obtained after acid treatment of crude glycerol)were used together for lipid production using intermittent feeding *** sludge feeding strategy(sludge SS 30 g/L)resulted in a higher biomass(54.99 g/L)and lipid concentration(25.35 g/L)at 96 h when compared to 35 g/L SS single sludge feeding or control strategy(45.67 g/L biomass&19.16 g/L lipid).Moreover,the intermittent sludge feeding strategy significantly reduced foaming and requirement of anti-foam during fermentation when compared to control *** energy balance of biodiesel production from lipid obtained by intermittent sludge feeding strategy(30 g/L SS)was energeti-cally *** was also revealed from yield coefficients and energy balance that sludge had an important contribution in microbial lipid and biodiesel production.

Optimization of trace elements in purified glycerol for microbial lipid and citric acid production by Yarrowia lipolytica SKY7

Purified glycerol obtained after acid treatment of crude glycerol solution was used as the carbon source for lipid and citric acid production using *** *** purified glycerol was high in phosphorus,it was important to inves-tigate the impact of fortification of trace elements in the medium on cell growth,lipid and citric acid(CA)*** all the trace elements(including phosphates and sulfates)required for growth and lipid production were added to the purified glycerol medium,high biomass(51.67 g/L)and lipid concentration(19.47 g/L)were observed at 96 h of fed-batch fermentation with low CA concentration of 5.42 g/*** purified glycerol medium without additional trace elements gave low biomass(27.67 g/L),lipid concentration(9.35 g/L)at 80 h of fed-batch fermentation,but gave high CA concentration(24.51 g/L).When purified glycerol was provided with only sulfates or all elements except KH_(2)PO_(4),low biomass(32.59 g/L and 38.52 g/L)and citric acid concentration(1 g/L and 2.42 g/L)were obtained at 96 h.

Protective effect of Ocimum sanctum Linn. leaf extract on ethanol withdrawal syndrome in Wistar rats

Objective: To evaluate the effects of Oscimum sanctum L(O. sanctum), an important medicinal herb, on alcohol withdrawal syndrome in Wistar rats. Methods: Liquid diet with 7.2%, v/v ethanol was administered to the rats for 21 d. Control group animals received sucrose as an isocaloric liquid diet. After alcohol withdrawal, rats were examined at 6 th and 24 th hour for major withdrawal signs that included anxiety and hyper locomotor activity. Ethanol withdrawal anxiety was tested using elevated plus maze, light and dark model; the hyper locomotor activity using actophotometer. O. sanctum leaf extract(100, 200 and 300 mg/kg, oral) and diazepam(2 mg/kg, i.p) were administered to the treatment group animals 30 min before alcohol withdrawal estimation. drug treatment was also given 30 min before the second observation at 24 th hour. On the last day of the protocol, rats were sacrificed by cervical dislocation liver, kidney and brain were isolated and preserved in formalin for further histopathological examination. Results: Findings from the present study revealed that O. Sanctum leaf extract treatment at doses 100, 200 and 300 mg/kg, oral had a significant protective effect on signs and symptoms of ethanol withdrawal in alcohol-dependent rats. However, no remarkable pathological and microscopic alterations were observed in histopathological examination. Conclusions: O. sanctum seems to be an active drug for the treatment of alcohol abstinence syndrome.

The Potential Contribution of Wildlife Sanctuary to Forest Conservation: A Case Study from Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary

Forest vegetation of a protected area （Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary） in Kumaun region （west Himalaya） was analysed for structure, composition and representativeness across three different altitudinal belts, lower （1,6oo-1,8oo m a.s.1.）, middle （1,900-2,100 m a.s.1.） and upper （2,200-2,400 m a.s.1.） during 2oo9-2011 using standard phytosociological methods. Four aspects （east, west, north and south） in each altitudinal belt were chosen for sampling to depict maximum representation of vegetation in the sanctuary. Population structure and regeneration behaviour was analysed seasonally for two years to show the establishment and growth of tree species. A total of 147 plant species were recorded from the entire region of which 27 tree species were selected for detailed study. Highest number was recorded at upper （18 species）, and lowest at lower altitudinal belt （15 species）. The relative proportion of species richness showed higher contribution of tree layer at each altitudinal belt. The population structure, based on the number of individuals, revealed a greater proportion of seedling layer at each altitudinal belt. The relative proportion of seedlings increases significantly along altitudinal belts （p〈0.05） while opposite trends were observed in sapling and tree layers. The density of sapling and seedling species varied non-significantly across seasons （p〉0.05）. The density values decreased in summer and increased during rainy season. As far as the regeneration status is concerned, middle and upper altitudinal belts showed maximum number of species with fair regeneration as compared to lower altitudinal belt. Overall density diameter distribution of tree species showed highest species density and richness in the smallest girth class and decreased in the succeeding girth classes. This study suggests that patterns of regeneration behaviour would determine future structural and compositional changes in the forest communities. It is suggested that the compositional changes v
