predictors of sperm recovery after cryopreservation n testicular cancer

Our objective was to identify predictors of improved postthaw semen quality in men with testicular cancer banking sperm for fertility preservation. We reviewed 173 individual semen samples provided by 67 men with testicular germ cell tumor （TGCT） who cryopreserved sperm before gonadotoxic treatment between 1994 and 2010 at our tertiary university medical center. Our main outcomes measures were independent predictors for the greater postthaw total motile count （TMC） in men with TGCT. Men with NSGCT were more likely to be younger （p 〈 0.01） and had high cancer stage （Ⅱ or Ⅲ, p 〈 0.01） compared with men with seminoma. In our multiple regression model, NSGCT histology, use of density gradient purification, and fresh TMC 〉 median fresh TMC each had increased odds of a postthaw TMC greater than median postthaw TMC. Interestingly, age, advanced cancer stage （11 or III）, rapid freezing protocol, and motility enhancer did not show increased odds of improved postthaw TMC in our models. In conclusion, men with TGCT or poor fresh TMC should consider preserving additional vials （at least 15 vials） before oncologic treatment. Density gradient purification should be routinely used to optimize postthaw TMC in men with TGCT. Larger, randomized studies evaluating cancer stage and various cryopreservation techniques are needed to assist in counseling men with TGCT regarding fertility preservation and optimizing cryosurvival.

Round spermatid injection into human oocytes:a systematic review and meta-analysis

Many azoospermic men do not possess mature spermatozoa at the time of surgical sperm *** study is a systematic review and meta-analysis evaluating outcomes following round spermatid injection(ROSI),a technique which utilizes immature precursors of spermatozoa for *** electronic search was performed to identify relevant articles published through October *** cohort studies in English involving male patients who had round spermatids identified and used for fertilization with human oocytes were *** rate,pregnancy rate,and resultant delivery rate were assessed following ***-analysis outcomes were analyzed using a random-effects *** were extracted from 22 studies involving 1099 couples and 4218 embryo *** fertilization rate after ROSI was 38.7%(95%confidence interval[CI]:31.5%–46.3%),while the pregnancy rate was 3.7%(95%CI:3.2%–4.4%).The resultant delivery rate was low,with 4.3%of embryo transfers resulting in a delivery(95%CI:2.3%–7.7%).The pregnancy rate per couple was 13.4%(95%CI:6.8%–19.1%)and the resultant delivery rate per couple was 8.1%(95%CI:6.1%–14.4%).ROSI has resulted in clinical pregnancies and live births,but success rates are considerably lower than those achieved with mature *** this technique may be a feasible alternative for men with azoospermia who decline other options,couples should be aware that the odds of a successful delivery are greatly diminished and the prognosis is relatively poor.

The evolution of the latitudinal diversity gradient(LDG),characterized by a peak in diversity toward the tropics,has captured significant attention in evolutionary biology and ***,the inverse LDG(i-LDG)mechanism,wherein species richness increases toward the poles,remains inadequately *** are among one of the oldest lineages of extant seed plants and have undergone extensive diversification in the ***,the extant cycad abundance exhibits an i-LDG pattern,and the underlying causes for this phenomenon remain largely ***,using 1,843 nuclear genes from a nearly complete sampling,we conducted comprehensive phylogenomic analyses to establish a robust species-level phylogeny for Cycas,the largest genus within *** then reconstructed the spatial-temporal dynamics and integrated global environmental data to evaluate the roles of species ages,diversification rates,contemporary environment,and conservatism to ancestral niches in shaping the i-LDG *** found Cycas experienced decreased diversification rates,coupled with the cooling temperature since its origin in the Eocene from continental *** regions have distinctively contributed to the formation of i-LDG for Cycas,with the northern hemisphere acting as evolutionary museums and the southern hemisphere serving as ***,water-related climate variables,specifically precipitation seasonality and potential evapotranspiration,were identified as paramount factors constraining Cycas species richness in the rainforest biome near the ***,the adherence to ancestral monsoonal climates emerges as a critical factor in sustaining the diversity *** study underscores the imperative of integrating both evolutionary and ecological approaches to comprehensively unravel the mechanisms underpinning global biodiversity patterns.

Single crystal growth, structural and transport properties of bad metal RhSb2

We have successfully grown an arsenopyrite marcasite type RhSb2 single crystal, and systematically investigated its crystal structure, electrical transport, magnetic susceptibility, heat capacity, and thermodynamic properties. We found that the temperature-dependent resistivity exhibits a bad metal behavior with a board peak around 200 K. The magnetic susceptibility of RhSb2 shows diamagnetism from 300 K to 2 K. The low-temperature specific heat shows a metallic behavior with a quite small electronic specific-heat coefficient. No phase transition is observed in both specific heat and magnetic susceptibility data. The Hall resistivity measurements show that the conduction carriers are dominated by electrons with ne = 8.62 × 10^(18) cm^(-3) at 2 K, and the electron carrier density increases rapidly above 200 K without change sign. Combining with ab-initio band structure calculations, we showed that the unusual peak around 200 K in resistivity is related to the distinct electronic structure of RhSb_2. In addition, a large thermopower S(T) about -140 μV/K is observed around 200 K, which might be useful for future thermoelectric applications.

Goals: To determine the utility of plain abdominal radiography in the initial evaluation of acute gastrointestinal (GI) hemorrhage in a medical intensive care unit. Background: plain abdominal radiographs are frequently used in the routin e evaluation of patients with GI bleeding. The utility of these studies in the i ntensive care unit setting is unclear. Study: The study was a retrospective char t review of 71 adult subjects admitted to a medical intensive care unit with the diagnosis of GI *** were excluded if they presented with peritone al signs,received an abdominal CT scan in the 24 hours prior to admission,or wer e chronically treated with immunosuppressive medication. Subjects were divided i nto two cohorts based on whether or not they underwent plain abdominal radiograp hy during the first hospital day. The primary study endpoints were hospital mort ality, intensive care unit length of stay, and whether or not radiographic findi ngs altered clinical ***: Of the 71 patients admitted with a diag nosis of GI bleeding (mean age 65.8 ±14.5 years, 73.2%male), 56(79%) had a plain abdominal radiograph performed. Subjects who had a plain film did not differ significantly from those who did not in age, ge nder, degree of anemia, degree of coagulopathy,or in severity of illness as meas ured by Acute physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (ApACHE II) score. There was no statistically significant difference in hospital mortality or intensive c are unit length of stay between patients who received plain films and those who did not. In no subject (0%; 95%confidence interval, 0%-5.4%) did abdominal radiography reveal an abnormality that altered clinical management. Conclusions: Based on our observations, plain films of the abdomen do not appear to alter cli nical outcomes or management decisions for patients with GI bleeding and normal abdominal examinations who are admitted to the intensive care unit.
