Development of advanced display and lighting technology such as field emission displays and plasma display panels requires phosphor which has a high efficiency and low degradation. Particle sizes and the locations of dopants in the hosts take an important role in the luminescence emissions of phosphors. ZnO nanoparticles are widely employed in plasma field emission display devices and well investigated;however, lanthanide (Ln3+) doped ZnO needs more investigations. In ZnO:Eu the lanthanide ions (Eu3+) may occupy either Zn2+ lattice site or on surface of ZnO crystal. The emissions of Eu3+ ion on the surface are the characteristic of Eu2 O3 , which leads to weak luminescence emission. To observe such phenomena, nanoparticles of ZnO, 2 at.% Eu3+ doped ZnO (ZnO:Eu) and ZnO:Eu covered with yattria matrix were prepared by wet chemical method at low temperature. The prepared nanoparticles were characterized by XRD and TEM. XRD data reveal the significant phase segregation of the annealed nanoparticles compared with lower heated samples. This phase segregation of Eu3+ ion establishes responsible for the decrease luminescence intensity of annealed ZnO:Eu nanoparticles compared with the as-prepared ZnO:Eu nanoparticles. Improvement on luminescence emissions could be achieved only for the as-prepared ZnO:Eu nanoparticles while covered with yattria matrix.

In a context of intense cooperation between China and India under new policy regimes and globalisation,this Essay argues for reviving normal pattern of relationship among people along the frontiers of China and India. These provinces besides being away from the administrative,industrial and production hubs are also marked by one of the highest concentrations of poverty in the Asia-Pacific region,and continue to encounter problems of political legitimacy engendered by geography,history,culture,racial factors,lack of specialized skills,capital formation. Revival of natural relationships may be the strategy for development of frontier provinces of China and India,through construction of trade corridors,exploitation of cultural similarities and enabling participation of communities,even fostering links through a third country. As nationalities or communities sharing similar socio-cultural or primordial oneness are interspersed on both sides of the boundary,it is argued that ethnic communities can be made to play a role in translating ethnic affinities into a lasting,effective,and substantial cooperation:beyond the state-centric security concerns to improve human security. Trading activities along China and Indian frontiers are usually controlled by non-local 'other' people,who are ethnically/racially different from the communities settled at the frontier. Therefore,systematic encouragement of participation of people may negate perceptions of exploitation,domination and alienation by the exclusionary tendencies of trade. These factors which engender contest against the state in the frontiers of China and India can be rectified through encouraging participation of people in the activities of China-India cooperation. Trade along the China and India frontiers may never reach economies of scale and may be statistically insignificant but it can make huge difference to the lives of people living along the frontier. Doxycycline blocks gastric ulcer by regulating matrix metalloproteinase-2 activity and oxidative stress

AIM: To examine the effect of doxycycline on the activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and oxidative stress in gastric tissues of rats following gastric ***: Gastric ulcers were generated in rats by administration of 70% ethanol,and activity of doxycycline was tested by administration 30 min prior to ***,the effect of doxycycline was tested in an indomethacin-induced gastric ulcer *** activities and expression of MMPs were examined by zymography and Western blot ***: Gastric injury in rats as judged by elevated ulcer indices following exposure to ulcerogen,either indomethacin or ethanol,was reversed significantly by ***-induced ulcerated gastric tissues exhibited about 12-fold higher proMMP-9 activity and about 5-fold higher proMMP-3 activity as compared to control ***,ethanol induced about 22-fold and about 6-fold higher proMMP-9 and proMMP-3 activities,respectively,in rat gastric *** proMMP-9 and MMP-3 activities were markedly decreased by doxycycline in ulcerogen treated rat gastric *** contrast,the reduced MMP-2 activity in ulcerated tissues was increased by doxycycline during ulcer *** the other hand,doxycycline inhibited significantly proMMP-9,-2 and -3 activities in *** addition,doxycycline reduced oxidative load in gastric tissues and scavenged H2O2 in *** results suggest a novel regulatory role of doxycycline on MMP-2 activity in addition to inhibitory action on MMP-9 and MMP-3 during prevention of gastric ***: This is the first demonstration of dual action of doxycycline,that is,regulation of MMP activity and reduction of oxidative stress in arresting gastric injury.

Pyometra is one of the most common uterine pathologies of intact bitch at middle to advanced age. In the early stages, the disease shows subtle changes, making diagnosis a challenge. In contrast, at later stages, it manifests as potentially life-threatening systemic inflammatory response syndrome. Ultrasonographic examination of the uterus aids in the diagnosis, although it has limitation in ascertaining the clinical severity of pyometra. Moreover, differentiation of cystic endometrial hyperplasia from pyometra could not be discerned with greater accuracy. Therefore, false negative diagnosis of pyometra patients leads to development of systemic inflammatory response, which delays administration of therapies and results in deaths during early course of treatment. Further, indiscriminate use of broad-spectrum antimicrobials at higher dose in false positive cases considerably contributes to the rising pool of drug resistant pathogens, thereby increasing the risk of case fatality due to sepsis in a long-term. Monitoring the circulating pro-inflammatory cytokines, acute phase proteins, endotoxin, growth factors and inflammatory mediators is the current trend in pyometra research, especially for developing diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers. The present review deals with the prospects of developing diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers in the canine pyometra.

Actinomycetes from Soil of Lachung, a Pristine High Altitude Region of Sikkim Himalaya, Their Antimicrobial Potentiality and Production of Industrially Important Enzymes

Investigations on actinomycetes are profoundly significant area of research since they form major resource for bioactive compounds, antimicrobials, anticancer agents, immunosuppressants, and biological control agents. A total of 59 actinomycetes were isolated from the soil sample collected from Domang, Lachung, North Sikkim, Sikkim, India. Out of the total isolates, 26 isolates with unique and distinct characteristic features were selected and analysed for antimicrobial activity as well as extracellular enzyme production. Out of 26 isolates, 17 (66%) isolates exhibited different level of growth inhibition against the test microorganism. 12 (47%) isolates showed antifungal activity and six (23%) isolates showed antibacterial activity. Most of the isolates showed antifungal activity. Isolate RCS260 was found to exhibit maximum growth inhibition (60%) against Colletotrichum gloeosporioides MTCC 8021. Isolate RCS252 showed maximum growth inhibition (67%) against Bacillus subtilis MTCC 441. Out of 26 isolates, 14 (54%) isolates exhibited chitinase activity, 25 (96%) isolates showed cellulase production, 20 (77%) isolates produced amylase enzyme and 17 (65%) isolates showed positive for protease activity. Potential isolate RCS260 has been characterized and identified as Streptomyces vinaceus strain RCS260 while isolate RCS252 was identified as Kitasatospora aburavienis strain RCS252. The antagonistic profile of strain RCS260 highlights its potential as antifungal agent against phytopathogens.

he volcano-plutonic rocks of the Siner area of the Malani Igneous Suite (MIS) are characterized by high content of radioactive elements (U, Th, K) and are classified as high heat producing felsic volcano-plutonic rocks of A-type granitoid. Microgranite shows highly comparable heat production (26.07 HP) and total heat generation value (62.06 HGU in average) as compared to other granite (HP = 12.73;HGU = 26.57), rhyolite (HP = 4.98;HGU = 11.85) and trachyte (HP = 5.00;HGU = 11.91). The volcano-plutonic rocks of the present show higher average value of total HGU than the average value of 3.8 HGU for the continental crust, which suggests a possible linear relationship among the crustal heat generation of the MIS.
