Bulk amorphous sulfur(a-S)with 1 mol%of phosphorus,selenium and iodine additives and bulk amorphous pure sulfur samples were prepared by rapidly compressing the melts to 2 GPa within 20 *** results of x-ray diffraction,differential scanning calorimetry and in situ wide angle x-ray scattering of the recovered samples are presented and *** the iodine doping case,obvious inhibiting effects on the crystallization and the melting process under high temperatures occurred,as well as on the structure relaxation of a-S at room temperature,suggesting that the thermal stability of amorphous sulfur is remarkably improved by the introduction of iodine additives.

The Tengchong volcano field(TVF),situated at the southeastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau,holds crucial information regarding Cenozoic volcanic activities and geotectonic evolution of the SE *** provide new constraints on petrogenesis and evolution of the Tengchong volcanism,here we conducted copper(Cu)elemental and isotopic analyses on a suite of samples that document the evolution from basalts to andesites in the *** basalts are Cu-depleted(29.7-36.9 ppm)and have higherδ65Cu val-ues(0.19‰-0.40‰,mean=0.31‰±0.05‰;n=11)than those of mid-ocean ridge basalts(MORBs,~0.09‰)and the mantle(~0.06‰)as well as the majority of island arc *** with the low Cu/Zr ratios,these characteristics are interpreted to reflect the fractionation of isotopically light sulfides in the S-saturated systems during magma ascent,rather than source heterogeneity induced by recycled materials and redox *** with the basalts,the andesites have slightly lower Cu contents(14.4-29.4 ppm)and lighter Cu isotopic compositions(mean=-0.14‰±0.06‰;n=13).These differences cannot be attributed to progressive sulfide fractionation of basaltic magmas but require the assimilation of lower crustal materials with lowδ65Cu values during evolution of the andesitic *** results collectively suggest that Cu isotopes can provide valuable insights into magma origin and evolution.

Preparation of High-Density Nanocrystalline Bulk Selenium by Rapid Compressing of Melt

The melt＇s solidification behavior of elemental selenium is investigated by a series of experiments including rapid compressing to 2.8 and 3.5 GPa within 20ms respectively, slow compressing to 2.8 GPa for 20 min and natural cooling at ambient pressure. Based on the x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope results of the recovered samples, it is clearly shown that homogenous nanostructures are formed only by the rapid compression processes, and that the average crystal sizes are about 18.7 and 19.0 nm in the samples recovered from 2.8 and 3.5 GPa, respectively. The relative density of the nanocrystalline bulk reaches 98.17% of the theoretical value. It is suggested that rapid compression could induce pervasive nucleation and restrain grain growth during the solidification, which is related to fast supercooling, higher viscosity of the melt and lower diffusivity of atoms under high pressure.

The organic-rich mudstones and dolostones of the Permian Fengcheng Formation(Fm.)are typically alkaline lacustrine source rocks,which are typified by impressively abundantβ-*** β-carotane has been well acknowledged as an effective indicator of biological sources or depositional ***,the specific biological sources of β-carotane and the coupling control of biological sources and environmental factors on the enrichment of β-carotane in the Fengcheng *** *** on a comprehensive investigation of the bulk,molecular geochemistry,and organic petrology of sedimentary rocks and the biochemistry of phytoplankton in modern alkaline lakes,we proposed a new understanding of the biological precursors of β-carotane and elucidated the enrichment mechanism of β-carotane in the Fengcheng *** results show that the biological precursors crucially control the enrichment of β-carotane in the Fengcheng *** haloalkaliphilic cyanobacteria are the primary biological sources of β-carotane,which is suggested by a good positive correlation between the 2-methylhopane index,7-+8-methyl heptadecanes/C_(max),C_(29%),and β-carotane/C_(max)in sedimentary rocks and the predominance of cyanobacteria with abundantβ-carotene in modern alkaline *** enrichment of β-carotane requires the reducing condition,and the paleoredox state that affects the enrichment of β-carotane appears to have a *** paleoclimate conditions do not considerably impact the enrichment of β-carotane,but they have some influence on the water's paleosalinity by affecting evaporation and *** it does not directly affect the enrichment of β-carotane in the Fengcheng Fm.,paleosalinity does have an impact on the cyanobacterial precursor supply and the preservation conditions.

Deepsea mining has been proposed since the 1960s to alleviate the lack of resources on *** hydraulic transport of collected ores from the seabed to the sea surface is considered the most promising method for industrial *** the present study,an indoor model test of the vertical hydraulic transport of particles was conducted.A noncontact optical method has been proposed to measure the local characteristics of the particles inside a vertical pipe,including the local concentration and particle *** hydraulic gradient of ore transport was evaluated with various particle size distributions,particle densities,feeding concentrations and mixture flow *** transport,the local concentration is larger than the feeding concentration,whereas the particle velocity is less than the mixture *** qualitative effects of the local concentration and local fluid velocity on the particle velocity and slip velocity were *** local fluid velocity contributes significantly to particle velocity and slip velocity,whereas the effect of the local concentration is marginal.A higher feeding concentration and mixture flow velocity result in an increased hydraulic *** effect of the particle size gradation is slight,whereas the particle density plays a crucial role in the transport.

Orthorhombic Nb_(2)O_(5)(T-Nb_(2)O_(5))is attractive for fast-charging Li-ion batteries,but it is still hard to realize rapid charge transfer kinetics for Li-ion ***,F-doped T-Nb_(2)O_(5) microﬂowers(F-Nb_(2)O_(5))are rationally synthesized through topotactic ***,F-Nb_(2)O_(5) are assembled by single-crystal nanoﬂakes with nearly 97%exposed(100)facet,which maximizes the exposure of the feasible Li^(+)transport pathways along loosely packed 4g atomic layers to the electrolytes,thus effectively enhancing the Li^(+)-intercalation ***,the band gap of F-Nb_(2)O_(5) is reduced to 2.87 eV due to the doping of F atoms,leading to enhanced electrical *** synergetic effects between tailored exposed crystal facets,F-doping,and ultrathin building blocks,speed up the Li^(+)/electron transfer kinetics and improve the pseudocapacitive properties of F-Nb_(2)O_(5).Therefore,F-Nb_(2)O_(5) exhibit superior rate capability(210.8 and 164.9 mAh g^(-1) at 1 and 10 C,respectively)and good long-term 10 C cycling performance(132.7 mAh g^(-1) after 1500 cycles).
