Low intensity ultrasound stimulates biological activity of aerobic activated sludge

This work aims to explore a procedure to improve biological wastewater treatment efficiency using low inten-sity *** aerobic activated sludge from a munici-pal wastewater treatment plant was used as the experimental *** uptake rate(OUR)of the activated sludge(AS)was determined to indicate the changes of AS activity stimulated by ultrasound at 35 kHz for 0-40 min with ultrasonic intensities of 0-1.2 W/cm^(2).The highest OUR was observed at the ultrasonic intensity of 0.3 W/cm^(2) and an irradiation period of 10 min;more than 15%increase was achieved immediately after *** significantly,the AS activity stimulated by ultrasound could last 24 h after sonication,and the AS activity achieved its peak value within 8 h after sonication,or nearly 100%higher than the initial level after ***,to improve the wastewater treatment efficiency of bioreactors,ultrasound with an intensity of 0.3 W/cm^(2) could be employed to irradiate a part of the AS in the bioreactor for 10 min every 8 h.

This paper introduces the experimental designs and outputs of the Diagnostic,Evaluation and Characterization of Klima(DECK),historical,Scenario Model Intercomparison Project(MIP),and Paleoclimate MIP(PMIP)experiments from the Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology Earth System Model version 3(NESM3).Results show that NESM3 reasonably simulates the modern climate and the major internal modes of climate *** the Scenario MIP experiment,changes in the projected surface air temperature(SAT)show robust“Northern Hemisphere(NH)warmer than Southern Hemisphere(SH)”and“land warmer than ocean”patterns,as well as an El Niño-like warming over the tropical *** in the projected precipitation exhibit“NH wetter than SH”and“eastern hemisphere gets wetter and western hemisphere gets drier”patterns over the *** precipitation patterns are driven by circulation changes owing to the inhomogeneous warming *** PMIP experiments show enlarged seasonal cycles of SAT and precipitation over the NH due to the seasonal redistribution of solar *** in the climatological mean SAT,precipitation,and ENSO amplitudes are consistent with the results from PMIP4 *** NESM3 outputs are available on the Earth System Grid Federation nodes for data users.

Electrochemical CO2reduction(ECR) to high-value multi-carbon(C2+) products is critical to sustainable energy conversion, yet the high energy barrier of C-C coupling causes catalysts to suffer high overpotential and low selectivity toward specific liquid C2+products. Here, the electronically asymmetric Cu-Cu/Cu-N-C(Cu/Cu NC) interface site is found, by theoretical calculations, to enhance the adsorption of*CO intermediates and decrease the reaction barrier of C-C coupling in ECR, enabling efficient C-C coupling at low overpotential. The catalyst consisting of high-density Cu/Cu NC interface sites(noted as ER-Cu/CuNC) is then accordingly designed and constructed in situ on the high-loading Cu-N-C single atomic catalysts. Systematical experiments corroborate the theoretical prediction that the ER-Cu/Cu NC boosts electrocatalytic CO2-to-ethanol conversion with a Faradaic efficiency toward C2+of 60.3%(FEethanol of 55%) at a low overpotential of-0.35 V. These findings provide new insights and an atractive approach to creating electronically asymmetric dual sites for efficient conversion of CO2to C2+products.

The extremely low bioavailability of oral paclitaxel(PTX)mainly due to the complicated gastrointestinal environment,the obstruction of intestinal mucus layer and epithelium ***,it is of great significance to construct a coordinative delivery system which can overcome multiple intestinal physicochemical obstacles *** this work,a high-density PEGylation-based glycocholic acid-decorated micelles(PTX@GNPs)was constructed by a novel polymer,9-Fluorenylmethoxy carbonyl-poly ethylene glycocholic acid(Fmoc-PEG-GCA).The Fmoc motif in this polymer could encapsulate PTX viaπ-πstacking to form the core of micelles,and the low molecular weight and non-long hydrophobic chain of Fmoc ensures the high-density of *** on this versatile and flexible carriers,PTX@GNPs possess mucus trapping escape ability due to the flexible PEG,and excellent intestine epithelium targeting attributed to the high affinity of GCA with apical sodium-dependent bile acid *** in vitro and in vivo results showed that this oral micelle could enhance oral bioavailability of PTX,and exhibited similar antitumor efficacy to Taxol injection via intravenous *** addition,oral PTX@GNPs administered with lower dosage within shorter interval could increase in vivo retention time of PTX,which supposed to remodel immune microenvironment and enhance oral chemotherapy efficacy by synergistic effect.

Nerve guidance conduits(NGCs)have attracted much attention due to their great necessity and applicability in clinical use for the peripheral nerve *** efforts in recent years have been devoted to the development of high-performance NGCs using various materials and *** present review provides a comprehensive overview of progress in the material innovation,structural design,advanced engineering technologies and multi functionalization of state-of-the-art nerve guidance conduits *** advanced engineering technologies including extrusion-based system,laser-based system,and novel textile forming techniques in terms of weaving,knitting,braiding,and electrospinning techniques were also analyzed in *** arising from this review indicate that the structural mimetic NGCs combined with natural and synthetic materials using advanced manufacturing technologies can make full use of their complementary advantages,acquiring better biomechanical properties,chemical stability and ***,the existing challenges and future opportunities of NGCs were put forward aiming for further research and applications of NGCs.

The aim of this study was to explore the associations of moderate-to-vigorous-intensity physical activity(MVPA)time and sedentary(SED)time with a history of cardiovascular disease(CVD)and multifactorial(i.e.,blood pressure(BP),body mass index(BMI),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),and glycated hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c))control status among type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)patients in China.A cross-sectional analysis of 9152 people with type 2 diabetes from the Multifactorial Intervention on Type 2 Diabetes(MIDiab)study was *** were grouped according to their self-reported MVPA time(low,<150 min·week−1;moderate,150 to<450 min·week−1;high,≥450 min·week−1)and SED time(low,<4 h·d–1;moderate,4 to<8 h·d–1;high,≥8 h·d–1).Participants who self-reported a history of CVD were identified as having a CVD *** ratios(ORs)and 95%confidence intervals(CIs)of CVD risk and multifactorial control status associated with MVPA time and SED time were estimated using mixed-effect logistic regression models,adjusting for China’s geographical region *** participants had a mean±standard deviation(SD)age of(60.87±8.44)years,44.5%were women,and 25.1%had *** adjustment for potential confounding factors,an inverse association between high MVPA time and CVD risk that was independent of SED time was found,whereas this association was not observed in the moderate-MVPA group.A higher MVPA time was more likely to have a positive effect on the control of *** with the reference group(i.e.,those with MVPA time≥450 min·week−1 and SED time<4 h·d–1),CVD risk was higher in the low-MVPA group:The OR associated with an SED time<4 h·d–1 was 1.270(95%CI,1.040–1.553)and that associated with an SED time≥8 h·d–1 was 1.499(95%CI,1.149–1.955).We found that a high MVPA time(i.e.,≥450 min·week−1)was associated with lower odds of CVD risk regardless of SED time among patients with T2DM.
