Reduction of SO2 to elemental sulfur over rare earth-iron catalysts

With coal gas as a reducing agent, the catalytic reduction of SO2 to sulfur in the flue gas produced in metallurgical processes was studied over catalysts of rare earth-Fe/Al2O3 (REFe/Al2O3). The catalytic activity of the REFe/Al2O3 catalyst on the reduction of SO2 to sul-fur was investigated based on kinds and the contents of rare earths and different preparation method of the catalyst. Additionally, the mecha-nism of this catalytic reduction reaction was also explored. Results showed that different rare earth imposed different effect on the activity of the Fe/Al2O3 catalyst. Especially, the addition of Sm and Dy greatly improved the catalytic activity of Fe/Al2O3. The yield of sulfur over SmFe/Al2O3was increased to 86.62% at 360 ℃, which was 40.5% higher than that over Fe/Al2O3at the same temperature; and the sulfur yield over DyFe/Al2O3was increased to 91.62% at 400 ℃, 26.4% higher than that over Fe/Al2O3. The catalytic activity of REFe/Al2O3 was somehow dependent on the content of rare earth. For SmFe/Al2O3, the content of Sm was optimized to be about 1.0 wt.%. The rare earth catalyst prepared with different methods also showed varied activity. The sulfur yield over rare-earth transition metal catalysts follows the order: Sm and iron solution mixing impregnationSm first, then iron solution impregnationiron first, then Sm solution impregnation. The reaction mechanism of SO2 reduction to sulfur with coal gas was proposed to be an intermediate mechanism.

A hybrid model that combines both physical and numerical models was employed to simulate the velocity field in a river area in complex geometry with multiple plunging jets. The simulation was based on experiments concerning energy dissipation and scour prevention at the Xiluodu Hydropower Station on the Yangtze River. The calculated results indicate that the complex geometry of the river area has a significant influence on the velocity field, especially on the circulation flow pattern at upstream and downstream of the plunging area and on the asymmetric characteristics of the spiral flow near both banks. The scour characteristics of the downstream river bed caused by the multiple jets were also predicted and analyzed according to the characteristics of the calculated velocity field. The good agreement between the simulated and experimental results indicates that the hybrid model can be used to effectively solve complicated 3-D problems with complex geometric and inlet conditions. Such problems may not easily be solved by using either a physical or a numerical model alone, and therefore the method presented in this article is considered to be a practical and effective way of dealing with this kind of problems.

The surface chemistry of filler is closely related to the structure and morphology of nanocomposite *** the property of filler is widely used to control the cell structures and functionalize the composite ***-functionalized graphene oxide（GO-ODA） was prepared by grafting octadecylamine（ODA） on the surface of graphene oxide（GO） to make the filler disperse better in the nanocomposites and have a strong interfacial interaction with polymer ***（methyl methacrylate）（PMMA）/GO-ODA nanocomposite foams were obtained by solution blending and foamed using supercritical carbon dioxide（scCO2）.Compared to neat PMMA and PMMA/GO samples,the PMMA/GO-ODA nanocomposite foams showed improved cell structures with smaller size,higher cell density and more homogeneous distribution,which should be attributed to the heterogeneous nucleation caused by well-dispersed GO-ODA *** work not only improved the compatibility and interfacial interaction of GO with polymer matrix but also indicated that the modified GO sheets can act as ideal filler to control the cell density,size and size distribution efficiently.

In this paper,novel electric conductive polylactide/carbon nanotubes(PLA/CNTs) foams were fabricated by a pressure-quench process using supercritical CO2as a blowing *** morphology of PLA/CNTs nanocomposites prepared by solution blending was characterized using SEM and the results indicate that CNTs well dispersed in PLA *** introduction of CNTs improved the thermal stability of *** morphology and electrical properties of PLA/CNTs foams were characterized and *** on the process parameters,such as saturation temperature and pressure,nanocellular or microcellular structure of PLA/CNTs nanocomposites were *** volume resistivity of PLA/CNTs foams was from 0.53 103Ω cm to 15.13 103Ω cm,which was affected by cell structure and crystallization of foams *** reduced the electrical conductivity due to the decrease of CNTs volume content and the break of conductive ***,crystallization increased the electrical conductivity possibly because of the CNTs structural change in which the CNTs were less curled and more connected.

A novel 2-D lead-containing hybrid compound, [（PbCl2）（μ-Pyz）1/2], （Pyz = pyrazine） 1, has been synthesized by the hydrothermal assembly of pyrazine with lead chloride. Elemental analysis and X-ray crystal structure analyses were carded out for the structural determination and characterization of the title compound. Compound 1 crystallizes in orthorhombic, space group lbam, with a = 19.5558（18）, b = 7.1939（6）, c = 7.5449（6） A, V = 1061.44（16） .A^3, C2H2Cl2NPb, Mr= 318.14, Z = 8, Dc= 3.982 g/cm^3, μ = 32.63 mm^-1, F（000） = 1096.0, R = 0.0368 and wR = 0.0901 for 623 observed reflections （I 〉 2σ（I））.

The electrical conductivity of conductive polymer composites(CPCs)with a classical double percolated structure is highly connected to the phase ***,lots of conductive fillers,which are added to guarantee CPCs’electrical conductivity,caused increased viscosity and limited phase coarsening in traditional atmosphere ***,a novel processing method of supercritical carbon dioxide(scCO_(2)),assisted phase coarsening for polylactide acid(PLA)/polystyrene(PS)/multi-wall carbon nanotube(MWCNT)composites was *** was first proved that obviously coarsened conductive network of double percolation after scCO_(2) annealing was achieved,which benefited from CO_(2) plasticized polymer chains and thus decreased ***,the electrical properties and electromagnetic interference(EMI)shielding performance of the composites were significantly *** percolation threshold of PLA/PS/MWCNT composites decreased from 0.31 wt.%to 0.16 wt.%,and EMI shielding effectiveness increased from 32.8 to 37.4 dB at 5 wt.%MWCNT *** work provides a simple,green,and effective way of post-processing to tailor the phase structure via varying conditions of annealing medium such as temperature,CO_(2) pressure,and time,and gains CPCs with improved electrical conductivity and EMI shielding performance.

Urban sprawl has been a prevailing phenomenon in developing countries like China,potentially resulting in significant carbon dioxide(CO_(2))emissions from the transport ***,the impact of urban sprawl on transport CO_(2) emissions(TCEs)is still not fully understood and remains somewhat *** systematically investigate how urban sprawl influences TCEs,we employ panel regression and panel threshold regression for 274 Chinese cities(2005-2020),and obtain some new *** results affirm that the degree of urban sprawl is positively associated with TCEs,and this holds true in different groups of city size and geographical region,while significant heterogeneity is observed in terms of such ***,we find urban sprawl nonlinearly impacts TCEs—with an equal increase in urban sprawl degree,TCEs are even lower in cities with larger population size and better economic condition,particularly in East ***,the low-carbon city pilot policy shows potential in mitigating sprawl's impact on *** on our findings,we argue that to achieve the target of TCEs reduction in China by curbing urban sprawl,more priority should be placed on relatively small,less developed,and geographically inferior cities for cost-efficiency reasons when formulating future urban development strategies.
