Differential distribution of PINK1 and Parkin in the primate brain implies distinct roles

The vast majority of in vitro studies have demonstrated that PINK1 phosphorylates Parkin to work together in mitophagy to protect against neuronal ***,it remains largely unclear how PINK1 and Parkin are expressed in mammalian *** has been difficult to address because of the intrinsically low levels of PINK1 and undetectable levels of phosphorylated Parkin in small *** this issue is critical for elucidating the in vivo roles of PINK1 and ***,we showed that the PINK1 kinase is selectively expressed as a truncated form(PINK1–55)in the primate *** the present study,we used multiple antibodies,including our recently developed monoclonal anti-PINK1,to validate the selective expression of PINK1 in the primate *** found that PINK1 was stably expressed in the monkey brain at postnatal and adulthood stages,which is consistent with the findings that depleting PINK1 can cause neuronal loss in developing and adult monkey ***1 was enriched in the membrane-bound fractionations,whereas Parkin was soluble with a distinguishable *** double staining experiments showed that PINK1 and Parkin did not colocalize under physiological conditions in cultured monkey astrocytes,though they did colocalize on mitochondria when the cells were exposed to mitochondrial *** findings suggest that PINK1 and Parkin may have distinct roles beyond their well-known function in mitophagy during mitochondrial damage.

Therapeutic potential of berberine against neurodegenerative diseases

Berberine(BBR) is an organic small molecule isolated from various plants that have been used in traditional Chinese medicine. Isolation of this compound was its induction into modern medicine, and its usefulness became quickly apparent as seen in its ability to combat bacterial diarrhea, type 2 diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, inflammation, heart diseases, and more. However, BBR's effects on neurodegenerative diseases remained relatively unexplored until its ability to stunt Alzheimer's disease(AD) progression was characterized. In this review, we will delve into the multi-faceted defensive capabilities and bio-molecular pathways of BBR against AD, Parkinson's disease(PD), and trauma-induced neurodegeneration. The multiple effects of BBR, some of which enhance neuro-protective factors/pathways and others counteract targets that induce neurodegeneration, suggest that there are many more branches to the diverse capabilities of BBR that have yet to be uncovered. The promising results seen provide a convincing and substantial basis to support further scientific exploration and development of the therapeutic potential of BBR against neurodegenerative diseases.

A CO_(2)-controllable phase change absorbent solvent used to waste recycling of dining lampblack

Dining lampblack as a source of atmospheric pollution,urban residents had to spend a lot of economic costs all year round to solve its ***,traditional treatment methods often carry the risk of secondary *** use of phase change absorption solvent(PCAS)controlled by CO_(2)can effectively absorb the oily components in dining lampblack,and smoothly avoid the generation of secondary pollutants and squandering of *** reversibility of PCASs under CO_(2)control was explained by pH changes and macroscopic *** absorption effects of favorable absorbents and PCASs on dining lampblack were compared and *** fatty acid(FA)in the oil absorption mixture was desorbed by interacting with *** results of GC/MS analysis on the oil components separated by desorption showed that the desorption of PCASs was effective for these refractory oil *** can be enriched and applied to the subsequent dining lampblack treatment link to realize the waste *** addition,the absorption and desorption of oily components by PCASs were combined with the CO_(2)-controlled phase transformation of PCASs itself to achieve the absorption circulation of treating dining lampblack by using PCASs.

Optimization of environmental maintenance system used in a refuge chamber

Mine refuge chambers are used to shield miners who fail to escape from the mine when incidents occur. Environment maintaining system plays a key role in stabilizing thermal environment of a mine refuge chamber against heat emitted from metabolism and transferred from outside. The safety and comfort of refugees are closely related to the environment maintaining system design. In order to improve the comfort of refugees, optimization on the environment maintaining system has been done based on the previous work. To evaluate the environment of the chamber, eight volunteers were involved into the experiment. Under close observation and safety protection, they lived in a heat-isolated test chamber for 106 hours. The volunteers were asked to maintain low level of activities to simulate refugees＇ situation. It shows that the environment maintaining system worked well and the temperature, relative humidity and emitted harmful air content such as CO2 and CO were all kept in the safety level, and no discomfort was felt by volunteers at all.

Study on Spatial Planning and Rational Pattern of China's Urbanization Development:Review on Research Report

Based on an in-depth survey of different typical areas that are selected in different regions and at different levels, this paper identifies the general characteristics of China's urbanization, the impacts that economic development driven by both exogenous and endogenous engines has on the spatial pattern of urbanization, and the two urbanization paths:gradient development and hierarchal advancement. By analyzing such factors as population growth, population mobility, and economic and industrial development, it sums up five spatial patterns for future urbanization development trends. Through the analyses on the three aspects:whereabouts of the present 260 million migrant workers and their families, whereabouts of the new-born population and new working-age rural population, and the migrant scale of the existing agricultural labors moving to non-agricultural industries, this paper predicts that China's urbanization rate will slow down in the next five to ten years, and will reach about 65 percent in around 2030. On the basis of the analyses, it puts forward that "Five-Six-Eleven" regional pattern of urbanization should be established to guide the overall strategy for spatial pattern optimization. To optimize the spatial pattern of urbanization, it proposes specific strategies including coordinated development of large, medium-sized, and small cities, and small towns, as well as urbanization development strategies of differentiation according to different classes and regions.

Treating oily solids using a CO_(2)-responsive surfactant-free microemulsion:An enhanced approach for oil removal from solid surfaces

Because switchable water is difficult to apply directly for oil removal,an enhanced approach to improve oil removal is proposed using a surfactant-free microemulsion(SFME)containing switchable *** SFME is formed using switchable water(aqueous N,N-dimethylethanolamine(DMEA)or N,N-dimethylbutylamine(BDEA))and a hydrophobic amine(N-butyldiethanolamine(DMBA)).The single-phase region for preparing the SFME is determined using a ternary phase diagram,and the microstructure types are distinguished using the con-ductivity *** pH changes and dynamic laser scattering test results demonstrate that the SFME exhibits irreversible transformation behavior regulated by CO_(2).Moreover,the recovered SFME containing BDEA has a microstructure with a smaller particle size after removing the CO_(2) by bubbling N 2 at 65°C,which is attributed to the higher proportion of DMEA than that of *** addition,dodecane and diesel oil are shown to dissolve in the SFME,and the oil solubility of the SFME increases with increasing oil phase(DMBA)*** interface free energy theory reveals that the oil is more easily detached with the addition of SFME than with switchable water only owing to the reduced interface free energy of oil on the solid ***,an enhanced approach for removing oil is proposed to wash oil sands,where the oil removal efficiency of switchable water can be improved by using SFMEs containing switchable water.
