The Oujiang Estuary is a very complex tidal estuary with many islands, which is located in Zhejiang Province, China. Reclamation of areas between islands will create a great amount of land. In this article, the feasibility of reclamation of areas between lingkun Island and Niyu is studied from the angle of its impacts on the hydrodynamic sediment environment. First, the natural hydrodynamic and sediment conditions and the seabed evolution are analyzed according to in-situ data. Second, numerical models of tidal current and sediment movement under the combined action of wave and current are set up with irregular triangular grid to carry out numerical simulations. The following conclusions are drawn from the study. （1） The areas between linkun Island and Niyu are not a tidal passage. Wenzhou Shoal has been aggraded gradually, a condition favorable for reclamation. （2） The reclamation is feasible as far as its effect on surrounding hydrodynamic sediment environment is concerned. （3） The reclamation has great favorable socio-economic impacts.

Drought is a major constraint in maize production worldwide. We studied quantitative trait loci （QTL） underlying drought tolerance for maize plants grown in two different environments. Traits investigated included ASI, plant height, grain yield, ear height, and ear setting. A genetic linkage map was constructed with 120 simple sequence repeat （SSR） markers based on an F2 population derived from a cross between D5 （resistant parent） and 7924 （susceptible parent）. Correlation and heritability were calculated. QTLs of these traits were identified by composite interval mapping combined with a linkage map covering 1 790.3 cM. The markers were arranged in ten linkage groups. QTL mapping was made of the mean trait performance of the 180 F2：3 population. The results showed five, five, six, four, and five QTLs for ASI, plant height, grain yield, ear height, and ear setting under full irrigation condition, respectively, and four, seven, six, four, and four QTLs for ASI, plant height, grain yield, ear height, and ear setting under severe late stress conditions, respectively. Especially the four QTLs detected for five traits in 2008 and 2009. The universal QTLs information generated in this study will aid in undertaking an integrated breeding strategy for further genetic studies in drought tolerance improvement in maize.

The methanol-to-gasoline (MTG) process is an efficient way to produce liquidfuel. The academic basis of the coal-to-liquid process is described and two different synthesis processes are focused on: Fixed MTG process and Fluid Bed MTG process. Then,the superiority of the Fluid Bed MTG Process is pointed out relative to the Fixed MTGProcess. In addition, the development of the coal-to-liquid technique in China is brieflysummarized.
