Hierarchically porous carbons(HPCs)with multimodal pores have attracted considerable attention due to their unique physical and chemical properties and various application potentials in heterogeneous catalysis,environmental treatment,and energy storage and conversion.Herein,we report a general and simple zinc salts-assisted method for the synthesis of HPCs with varied porosity and chemical func-tionalities by the direct carbonization of diverse biomass and wastes.During the carbonization,zinc salts are thermally decomposed into nanoparticles that serve as in-situ templates to introduce nanopores in carbons.The prepared HPCs exhibit high specific surface areas(up to 2432 m2 g-1),large pore volumes(up to 4.30 cm^(3)g^(-1)),and broad pore size distributions.Moreover,the zinc salts can be recovered and recycled,supporting the sustainable production of HPCs on large scale.The prepared HPCs-supported catalysts with atomically dispersed metal sites exhibit promising electrocatalytic performance for the oxygen reduction reaction.

Global gene expression profiling of perirenal brown adipose tissue whitening in goat kids reveals novel genes linked to adipose remodeling

Background Brown adipose tissue(BAT)is known to be capable of non-shivering thermogenesis under cold stimulation,which is related to the mortality of animals.In the previous study,we observed that goat BAT is mainly located around the kidney at birth,and changes to white adipose tissue(WAT)in the perirenal adipose tissue of goats within one month after birth.However,the regulatory factors underlying this change is remain unclear.In this study,we systematically studied the perirenal adipose tissue of goat kids in histological,cytological,and accompanying molecular level changes from 0 to 28 d after birth.Results Our study found a higher mortality rate in winter-born goat kids,with goat birthing data statistics.Then we used thermal imaging revealing high temperature in goat hips at postnatal 0 d and gradually decrease during 28 d.This is consistent with the region of perirenal BAT deposition and highlights its critical role in energy expenditure and body temperature regulation in goat kids.Additionally,we found a series of changes of BAT during the first 28 d after birth,such as whitening,larger lipid droplets,decreased mitochondrial numbers,and down-regulation of key thermogenesis-related genes(UCP1,DIO2,UCP2,CIDEA,PPARGC1a,C/EBPb,and C/EBPa).Then,we used RNA-seq found specific marker genes for goat adipose tissue and identified 12 new marker genes for BAT and 10 new marker genes for WAT of goats.Furthermore,12 candidate genes were found to potentially regulate goat BAT thermogenesis.The mechanism of the change of this biological phenomenon does not involve a large-scale death of brown adipocytes and subsequent proliferation of white adipocytes.While apoptosis may play a limited role,it is largely not critical in this transition process.Conclusions We concluded that perirenal BAT plays a crucial role in thermoregulation in newborn goat kids,with notable species differences in the expression of adipose tissue marker genes,and we highlighted some potential marker genes for goat BAT and WAT.Additionally,the change fr

Ferroptosis is a non-apoptotic form of regulated cell death characterized by the lethal accumulation of iron-dependent membranelocalized lipid peroxides.It acts as an innate tumor suppressor mechanism and participates in the biological processes of tumors.Intriguingly,mesenchymal and dedifferentiated cancer cells,which are usually resistant to apoptosis and traditional therapies,are exquisitely vulnerable to ferroptosis,further underscoring its potential as a treatment approach for cancers,especially for refractory cancers.However,the impact of ferroptosis on cancer extends beyond its direct cytotoxic effect on tumor cells.Ferroptosis induction not only inhibits cancer but also promotes cancer development due to its potential negative impact on anticancer immunity.Thus,a comprehensive understanding of the role of ferroptosis in cancer is crucial for the successful translation of ferroptosis therapy from the laboratory to clinical applications.In this review,we provide an overview of the recent advancements in understanding ferroptosis in cancer,covering molecular mechanisms,biological functions,regulatory pathways,and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.We also summarize the potential applications of ferroptosis induction in immunotherapy,radiotherapy,and systemic therapy,as well as ferroptosis inhibition for cancer treatment in various conditions.We finally discuss ferroptosis markers,the current challenges and future directions of ferroptosis in the treatment of cancer.

The emerging viruses within the genus Henipavirus in the family Paramyxoviridae pose a great threat to public biosafety.To develop a quadruple real-time fluorescence-based quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR)assay is pivotal for the early warning of the potential of zoonotic infectious diseases.Specific primers and probes were designed for the relatively conserved regions based on whole genome sequences of Langya virus(LayV),Mojiang virus(MojV),Nipah virus(NiV),and Cedar virus(CedV),followed by the establishment of a quadruple real-time fluorescence-based qRT-PCR detection method.No cross-reactivity was observed with other viral nucleic acids.The optimal linear detection range for LayV,MojV,Niv,and CedV was 10^(1)-10^(8)copies/uL,and the lower limit of detection was 10 copies/μL.Three different DNA concentrations of LayV,MojV,NiV,and CedV(10^(4),10^(5),and 10^(6)copies/μL)were tested 14 times,achiev-ing good repeatability.The standard deviation of the cycle threshold values for each concentration wasle real-time fluorescence-based qRT-PCR was>90%,and the correlation coefficient was>0.99.The established quadru-ple real-time fluorescence-based qRT-PCR assay for the detection of LayV,MojV,NiV,and CedV exhibits good sensitivity,specificity,and repeatability.Therefore,it can be used to detect Henipavirus and other related clin-ical specimens.

The cold start-up of the PEMFC(proton exchange membrane fuel cell)stack from sub-zero temperature is considered one of the significant obstacles to its expansive commercial applications.In the cold start-up process,with the progress of hydrogen/oxygen chemical reaction,the produced water will freeze into ice,occupying the pores of the porous electrode,thus leading to a rapid deterioration of output performance and even making the cold start-up fail.In this work,a one-dimensional numerical model is adopted to study a cold start-up process of the PMEFC stack starting from-30℃.The stepwise-changed current loading mode is employed in the process.An assisted preheating method is used to explore an optimal operating condition for a successful cold start-up.The numerical results are validated by comparing the numerical result with the experimental data in reference,and they agree with the experimental data very well.The results show that the optimal heating power in the studied range is 100 W.As the initial current slope increased,the current peak value increased,but the cold start-up process failed.Also,the start-up time and ice volume fraction are highly dependent on the initial current slope.The optimal initial current slope is 0.7 A/s.Besides,a higher initial current slope will cause a significant inner ohmic resistance.The resistance of CLa(catalyst layer of the anode)is the key and primary part of the total ohmic resistance.The details of the research and the analyzed results will help design the cold start-up strategy for the PEMFC stack start-up from-30℃.

Anti-cancer therapies usually focus on tumor cells,but non-tumor stromal components in the tumor microenvironment also play vital roles in tumor initiation and progression,which may be the prognostic factors and potential therapeutic targets.Cancer-associated fibroblasts(CAFs)are the essential component in the tumor environment,exhibiting high heterogeneity in their cell origin and phenotype with diverse functions that influence tumor angiogenesis,immune systems,and metabolism.Single-cell RNA sequencing and genetically engineered mouse models have increased our understanding of CAF diversity,and many subtypes have been defined.However,the precise functions of these subtypes need to be studied and validated.Studies of signaling pathways and epigenetic changes in CAFs facilitate understanding of the phenotypes of CAFs and the crosstalk between tumor cells and CAFs to provide potential therapeutic targets.Some clinical trials,including phase III trials targeting CAFs,have been performed recently.However,few of these trials have generated promising results,which indicates that the complexity of CAFs in the tumor microenvironment remains largely unknown,and in-depth investigations of CAFs should be performed.This review summarizes the research on CAFs,focusing on the heterogeneity of their phenotypes and functions,specific signaling pathways,and the therapeutic strategies involving CAFs.Additionally,we briefly discuss the current technologies commonly used in CAF studies and describe the challenges and future perspectives of CAF research.

Metapaths with specific complex semantics are critical to learning diverse semantic and structural information of heterogeneous networks(HNs)for most of the existing representation learning models.However,any metapaths consisting of multiple,simple metarelations must be driven by domain experts.These sensitive,expensive,and limited metapaths severely reduce the flexibility and scalability of the existing models.A metapath-free,scalable representation learning model,called Metarelation2vec,is proposed for HNs with biased joint learning of all metarelations in a bid to address this problem.Specifically,a metarelation-aware,biased walk strategy is first designed to obtain better training samples by using autogenerating cooperation probabilities for all metarelations rather than using expert-given metapaths.Thereafter,grouped nodes by the type,a common and shallow skip-gram model is used to separately learn structural proximity for each node type.Next,grouped links by the type,a novel and shallow model is used to separately learn the semantic proximity for each link type.Finally,supervised by the cooperation probabilities of all meta-words,the biased training samples are thrown into the shallow models to jointly learn the structural and semantic information in the HNs,ensuring the accuracy and scalability of the models.Extensive experimental results on three tasks and four open datasets demonstrate the advantages of our proposed model.

In this article,in-situ scanning electron microscope characterization of the tensile properties of TiB/Ti-2Al-6Sn titanium matrix composite(TMC) was conducted before and after electroshocking treatment(EST).After EST,the tensile strength increased by 113.2 MPa.The effect of EST on the tensile strength and fracture behavior of TiB was investigated using in-situ characterization of the fracture morphology and crack propagation path of the matrix and TiB.Before EST,TiB fracture introduced cracks that extended into the matrix,resulting in material failure.After EST,the refined TiB improved the bearing capacity of the matrix,thereby improving TMC strength.Moreover,after EST,the cracks were introduced into the matrix,and resulting the fracture of matrix first.With an increase in the external load,cracks in the matrix were observed to propagate to TiB,and the refined TiB was fractured,detached,and pulled out,resulting in the formation of pores.Analyzing the propagation path of the main crack after EST showed that the deflection angle of the main crack increased.The micro structure of the fracture surface indicated that the fracture of the matrix was plastic,whereas that of TiB was brittle.After EST,the size and area of the dimples increased,confirming the increase in plasticity.The results revealed that the comprehensive mechanical properties of TiB/Ti-2Al-6Sn improved after EST.Hence,EST is an efficient method for tailoring the micro structures and mechanical properties of TMCs.

Structural energy storage composites present advantages in simultaneously achieving structural strength and electrochemical properties.Adoption of carbon fiber electrodes and resin structural electrolytes in energy storage composite poses challenges in maintaining good mechanical and electrochemical properties at reasonable cost and effort.Here,we report a simple method to fabricate structural supercapacitor using carbon fiber electrodes(modified by Ni-layered double hydroxide(Ni-LDH)and in-situ growth of Co-metal-organic framework(Co-MOF)in a two-step process denoted as Co-MOF/Ni-LDH@CF)and bicontinuous-phase epoxy resin-based structural electrolyte.Co-MOF/Ni-LDH@CF as electrode material exhibits improved specific capacity(42.45 F·g^(-1))and cycle performance(93.3%capacity retention after 1000 cycles)in a three-electrode system.The bicontinuous-phase epoxy resin-based structural electrolyte exhibits an ionic conductivity of 3.27×10^(-4) S·cm^(-1).The fabricated Co-MOF/Ni-LDH@CF/SPE-50 structural supercapacitor has an energy density of 3.21 Wh·kg^(-1) at a power density of 42.25 W·kg^(-1),whilst maintaining tensile strength and modulus of 334.6 MPa and 25.2 GPa.These results show practical potential of employing modified commercial carbon fiber electrodes and epoxy resin-based structural electrolytes in structural energy storage applications.

DCVAE-adv:A Universal Adversarial Example Generation Method for White and Black Box Attacks

Deep neural network(DNN)has strong representation learning ability,but it is vulnerable and easy to be fooled by adversarial examples.In order to handle the vulnerability of DNN,many methods have been proposed.The general idea of existing methods is to reduce the chance of DNN models being fooled by observing some designed adversarial examples,which are generated by adding perturbations to the original images.In this paper,we propose a novel adversarial example generation method,called DCVAE-adv.Different from the existing methods,DCVAE-adv constructs adversarial examples by mixing both explicit and implicit perturbations without using original images.Furthermore,the proposed method can be applied to both white box and black box attacks.In addition,in the inference stage,the adversarial examples can be generated without loading the original images into memory,which greatly reduces the memory overhead.We compared DCVAE-adv with three most advanced adversarial attack algorithms:FGSM,AdvGAN,and AdvGAN++.The experimental results demonstrate that DCVAE-adv is superior to these state-of-the-art methods in terms of attack success rate and transfer ability for targeted attack.Our code is available at https://***/xzforeverlove/DCVAE-adv.
